Maybe Spoilers? I doubt it, though...

I haven't read most of Secret Invasion yet, but I heard some guy in the comic shop say something along these lines.

Was Steve Rogers (the one that was shot and killed) a Skrull?

And if not, how hard would it be for some future generation of Marvel writers and editors to retcon him back into the Marvel Universe by saying a Skrull impersonator was shot?

Regardless, it makes me want to move Secret invasion to the top of my to read pile. :)

Nah.

The device to bring him back is there with the
World War II Cap that screamed "I'M CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!" in the latest issue

He would have reverted.

He did not turn into a Skrull when he died. So no he is not a Skrull.

Yup. All the dead Skrulls so far have reverted to their Skrull shape upon death. Corpse Cap did not.

Could he have been a "special" Skrull?

Unless that was a fake body Tony showed to Sharon Carter.

Hey, the guy cloned a fucking god. He can do anything.

You mean The Grand Director? The guy that Faustus had conviced WAS Steve the last few issues? He's not Steve Rogers though, not even a clone. He was one guy and then had surgery to look more like Rogers and then went nuts and evil as the G.D.

Yeah, it seems Bru is setting him up

to become a big villain again, judging by the captions in #42.

Oh, ok, my bad. Thought he was a clone.

No, he'll be revived via the Cosmic Cube, eventually.

Sharon didn't get showed a body. He died in her arms.

It would be a beautiful bookend.

Right around the release of the movie.

Nah. Bucky will just make a deal with Mephisto. Or Sentry will fly counter clockwise around the earth, spinning it backward and resurrecting everybody.

We still never saw what the Red Skull's master plan was with Doom's time platform. I think he wanted to (among other things) use it to somehow accelerate Sharon's baby into adulthood so he could take its body. But I'm guessing that will play into Steve's comeback, around the time of the movie.

Really? Villain? I didn't get that at all. Are the captions you talking about the ones at the end when the guys in Times Square, because those are actually Bucky's.

I think it would be cool if that guy became a new Nomad

They don't ALL revert back to Skrull....or someone has some explaining to do to his Skrull superiors about why he.....

did not give them the heads up on the X-Men being in SF

Think about it!

I don't think that is how they plan to do it at all.

We've seen the body in the morgue and more recently in a jar. Also it would be a total cop out.

As much as I hate Quesada I do feel his intentions were never to screw up the characters as has been done in some cases but to restore them to what he remembers being great about them. In the case of Cap this is the whole "man out of time" angle.

Avengers/Invaders #12 comes out fairly close to Captain America #50 so there's your solution right there. Will that screw with history? Not at all.

Reed Richards is often pointing out (and in some cases it's proved by another character) that you can't change the past, just create a splintering off into a parallel universe. The past remains as it should, so you can send Bucky America back to the past to take the role of Captain America and/or just let it be and a parallel universe is created.

That's how I would do it. Or just start each issue with "Punching the wall of time, a super boy from another universe ..."

incredibly easy.

My gut says that Bru will bring Steve back himself towards the end of his run, because:
- There's obvious story potential in having him meet the new Cap.
- If he doesn't do it, someone else will.

And yeah, the cosmic cube would work as a method. As in it would make the most internal sense within Brubaker's own run, and it doesn't involve dragging in someone else's story.

Cap isn't a skrull it would interfere with bru's run plus if he were a skrull he wouldve reverted when he died.

I think it would have been a cool way to bring him back. And organic.

But I'm sure they have something planned. If not, it's just irresponsible.
