Where's the need? He's online so much you can know what he's dong every 10 minutes.

Really?

he wasn't shitty about it.

all he said was "no thank you."

i have heard him complain about comic book podscasts in general, so likely that's part of it.

pros have offered to put in a good word for me, and i'm on good terms with one of his go-to people here in the states but whatever .

plenty of others to talk to

Which is kind of annoying when you consider how much he used to write about podcasting in his columns on CBR or Newsarama or wherever he used to post.

From what I've read, he doesn't really like the sound of his own voice nor likes seeing/hearing himself in recordings. Someone (maybe Matt Fraction at HeroCon) told me that they don't think he takes comic book podcasts very seriously, but I doubt that.

I just don't think he really wants to do them.

And like Maverick said, if you're interested, you can pretty much know what he's doing/thinking/yelling every 10 minutes on any given day.

How can we convince you to do a spoken-word podcast?

You can't. I genuinely loathe the sound of my own voice.

He went on a tear on the bad signal one day about how he doesn't think using podcasts to basically do talk radio on the computer is using them to their fullest. Like you're not going to build this new media into something by just porting over the old dying media.

I don't agree but that's pretty much what he said.

I imagine Ellis dreams of something like Burroughs' cut-ups or Glenn Gould's radio work which was an attempt to (sometimes literally) blend field recordings, music and voice. That stuff is cool and I'm sure comics podcasters will one day do some of those experimental audio collages and make it work (if they haven't done so already) but yeah, not the Wordballoon mandate as far as I've ever been able to tell. ;-)

Anyway, I think at one point Warren Ellis' own forums probably rivaled Jinxworld (A decade ago he was the only comics writer I cared about: Transmet got me started on buying regular issues) so it's not like he's not available for the odd question (although I imagine it would take a fair bit of effort to get him to answer). I now remember writing something incredibly earnest to him one very late night in my late teens that I think I don't remember anymore because it was probably crushingly embarrassing.

It's a shame he's not up for it. I'd love to hear him reflecting upon his career to date. C'est la vie etc etc...

I don't agree either.

I think the interview format is viable on any media platform , and if anything the net makes a show like mine possible, because it reaches fans from all over. we've seen it go from print, to radio, to TV, and now the net.

he, and others think radio is "dying"? sorry but that's a crock of shit.

radio and TV are absolutley changing, but they will not die.

Well, as a listener from Cork in the deep south of Ireland, I can only agree with your point about what the net makes possible. Without it, I would not be aware of your show and I would have been denied I don't know how many wonderful interviews with creators. It sounds like Warren Ellis is being contrary for the sake of being contrary, which, if true, is a bit of a shame. He's a brilliant writer (though I suspect Bill Willingham wouldn't be a fan!) and a career retrospective would surely make for great listening. But if he has gone on the record with his views, presumably he won't do a 180. That's a pity!
