View Full Version : Guesses on Jim's upcoming mini

Reading the interview with Jim and Brian Reed regarding the What If issue, I noticed this section that really sounds interesting:

"NRAMA: Jim, you mentioned you have something coming up for Marvel that you can't talk about yet. Can we get any clue on what it is?

JM: Well, it's a mini.

BR: And it spins out of Secret Invasion."

Anyone have any guesses on what Jim's mysterious upcoming mini will be?

I have no idea. I think that Secret Invasion's end is going to open up several directions and possibilities that I don't think anyone has guessed the angles on yet. Pretty exciting stuff.

When it comes to events, Marvel in the past several years has been very good about a asking "ok, but what happens after that?" And knowing that is critical.

Spins out of SI eh? Something tells me that Dark Reign one-shot featuring various writers including upcoming War Machine writer Greg Pak and Jim himself will hold the answer.

Perhaps if successful enough this mini could in fact become.....AN ONGOING!

Yeah, there are some pretty great surprises out there still that no one has guessed or hit upon. What's funny is people will guess everything, just saying "Oh I bet it's this...or that...or what about THIS?!" until every possible outcome has been exhausted. And then when the ending hits, they claim "Oh well predictable, we totally saw that coming because so-and-so guessed it MOTHS ago." So, no matter what happens, online there will be someone who thinks the annoying "m" word.

That bitching aside, yes, we DO know where we're going and have had this ending and direction from the moment Brian brought Secret Invasion to the table, so I'm VERY excited about what comes next...and beyond excited that I get to be a part of it!

Dear GOD, from your lips to Joe Q's ears! LOL But that means you all have to add it to your pull list when it's announced. :)

I still can't talk about the story, but I CAN say that I now have an artist and am THRILLED about who it is. Also, the script for the DARK REIGN: NEW NATION story has made it thru in only 2 drafts! Yay! Can't wait to start seeing pages!!!

...and then I REALLY can't wait until I *can* talk more about the story!

Since the prologue is 8 pages, is this something that will be included in one of those post-SI, Dark Reign vignette books?

LOL, it's ok. And unlike other vignette books, these stories are all actual prologues to the minis & ongoings they launch. They will not be reprinted and are not just snippets- they are all 5 full stories.

Just did the lettering correx on my 8-pger today. Had to cut some stuff, and add different dialogue, but it was all because the incredible artist got so much across on the page that some of my dialogue wasn't needed! Fun, exciting, and SCARY because it's all me this time and it keeps getting closer & closer to being real, final, and printed...

That's great news. Really, it is. I order all of my stuff through DCBS so these classified solicits are frustrating for me. I ordered the book with your prologue in it along with a few other Dark Reign specials with absolutely no idea what they were about. This is really good news. Thanks!

With the one-shots, the digicomic, and the miniseries it'll certainly get real for you. Deadlines!:scared:

Jim, this isn't the first time I'm come across a creator talking about an unnamed, upcoming project where they have withheld the identity of the artist until the official project announcement. Why is that such a big deal? I've never been able to make heads or tails of that?

Yeah deadlines are FUN. :scared:

Regarding the artist, it is a case by case basis, In this case, it is someone who deserves a big announcement that they are working on this. It's someone I am VERY happy to be working with, so this artist will get their own announcement. Trust me, I can't wait to talk about the artist by name... much less show the work being done!!!

4-issues (plus the prologue). I just wrote my first solicit. It's funny, I used to tweak otehr people's and before working here, I wrote the solicit for every movie coming out on VHS & DVD (years ago) for a monthly sales catalog (when I worked at Ingram Distributors). Writing OTHER people's products descriptions was WAY easier! I think it took me about an hour, and I argued with myself over every adjective and adverb...

I had no idea you were in that line of work. This reminds me of how all the Simpsons writers explain during commentaries that a lot of episodes they do are a breeze to write but they end up spending a bulk of their time working on one blackboard gag or writing the parody film titles for the Aztec theatre.

I guess it's the little details that tie you up sometimes.

Yep, it's been a long, windey, weird road to here. But it's worth it when you get to write solicit for your own book!

Another thing that can stop my fingers dead in their tracks - sound effects. I HATE trying to type out what something would sound like...

Thanks for the info. Usually, Diamond only delays books when a holiday falls during the week of delivery. I was wondering why the NA #47 preview over at CBR had a posted release date for the fourth.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Alright Jim, only 24 hours (give or take) to go and you can spill your guts about your new mini. It'll be cool to find out what you're up to.

I'm hoping Echo is involved. Only for the reason that I get the feeling that character is going to drop off the face of the (616) earth and no one will hear from her any time soon. I think she's going to get lost in the post-SI/Dark Reign shuffle. That's if she survives SI #8.

(:Oops:Sorry about the unexpected Echo tangent. It came out of nowhere.)
