View Full Version : Welcome to the board!
Jim @ Marvel

Hey folks!
This is CRAZY weird, but I have my own board here now! (thank you, Brian!!!)
I'm mostly known as Jim @ Marvel, so feel free to come here and talk about events, questions, Marvel happenings & whatnot. BUT, I am also now writing more for Marvel, so I hope you'll also come here to talk about projects helmed by yours truly. If you love them, tell me. If you didn't let me know why.
This December has two books with stories by me in them, so add them to your pull-list. (please?)
And THANK YOU ALL for your support these past 4.5 years at Marvel! And counting...

WHAT IF? HOUSE OF M
Written by BRIAN REED, JIM MCCANN & C.B. CEBULSKI
Penciled by PAOLO PANTALENA & PATRICK SPAZIANTE
Cover by JIM CHEUNG & MARKO DJURDJEVIC
We all remember when the Scarlet Witch uttered the three words that would change the landscape of the Marvel Universe: “No More Mutants!” But what if she said something different? And what of the consequences...? In a world without great power, who bears the burden of responsibility? Who will stand up to an enemy who fills the vacuum of power and whose hatred is unparalleled? Brian Reed (SECRET INVASION: FRONT LINE) with Marvel's own Jim McCann and brand-spankin’ new artist Paolo Pantalena answer the question: "What if Scarlet Witch had ended the HOUSE OF M by saying "NO MORE POWERS!" Also featuring Part 1 of a special five part back-up story in all the What Ifs this year, in which we see Iron Lad take a different path that leads him to recruit a different set of future Avengers. Join C.B. Cebulski (X-MEN: DIVIDED WE STAND, LONERS) and Patrick Spaziante (MUTIES, Sonic The Hedgehog) as they ask, 'What if the Runaways Became the Young Avengers?'
48 PGS./Rated T+ ...$3.99

Yay! Now I have a place to ask all my dreadfully dull scheduling questions that most fans don't really bother with, like this one...
Jim:
IGN, CBR, & Newsarama have all solicited a one-shot that Marvel's website has not:
SECRET INVASION: REQUIEM #1 (not final title)
These solicits are classified until the release of Secret Invasion #8.
Pick up the free Marvel Previews: Dark Reign Edition in-stores the same day as Secret Invasion #8.
64 PGS./One-Shot/Rated T+...$3.99
Since Marvel's website is the only site that provides tentative release dates and they haven't posted this title yet, do you know of a preliminary release date in December for this title that you can share with me?

Sorry, but this one is a big hush-hush that we can't reveal anything about, even timing, ...yet

Marvel is going to slip these under people's doors in plain manila envelopes, aren't they?

Hmmm, you think the X-Books are separate now, hmm? Well, remember how just before Messiah Complex everyone realized we had been moving the pieces into place for almost a year in 4 different books to get MC able to start with a bang? Wouldn't it be AWESOME if we were doing that again? ;)

what are the challenges to marketing comics?
There are a lot but not as many since Civil War. Between CW and the sucess of Iron Man, Marvel has really gotten into the public awareness and more people are open to covering our comics. But the thing you have to be careful of is a) what message are you sending out, and b) not competeing with yourself too much or creating white noise.
Oh, and dealing with the word "meh" and not letting it make you want to destroy the Internet.

Hey, Jim, I also saw Marko doing a cover with Ron Garney that looked awesome. Are you guys planning to go with these Marko pairings often?
I notice Marvel going with a lot more painted covers these days. Even guys who used to pencil and ink covers (like Steve Epting) are painting them now. I never want the pencil and ink covers to go away, but I'd love to see Djurdjevic painting over John Romita Jr., Alan Davis, Olivier Coipel (for a variant Thor cover) and Paul Pelletier (so he can do his own Guardians covers, if being painted is what's required).

Hello Jim at Marvel. Should I know who you are? :)
So, let me ask a question. I have a treatment for a direct to DVD animated movie as Marvel is want to do these days. Who would I send something like that?
See, are you sure you wanted this board? Cause now you get all sorts of questions like this.
Regardless, thanks in advance for any help!

Mr. McCann first I want to apologize for considering you a dork for liking Dazzler. I ended up buying Essential Dazzler and can't put it down. Second I saw you last summer at the SDCC opening a few panels for discussion. I wish I had half the charisma you have when I give presentations at work.
Can't wait to read The New Avengers: Reunion.

It's ok. It sometimes takes a bit to realize the awesomeness of Dazzler! ;)
I love interacting with fans and hope that they have fun at our panels. Thank you for the kind words!
Welcome to the board!
