Mr. Monk and the Prose Novels

So has anyone read the Mr. Monk line of books?

I didn't even realize they had novels based on Monk, found them while looking up the prices of the DVD sets.

I'm thinking I might pick one up, it's bargain priced. I'm debating if I should buy a copy for my sister-in-law who is a fan of the show or just buy one and pass it along.
