What began as a small sketch video series now is a tutorial series in High Definition (HD)!

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b164/ChrisNoeth/draw_and_paint_video_series.jpg

It is made for comic fans and aspiring artists out there.

The best part: It is complete free of charge and you can embed the videos in your blog, website and so on. You also can download the original size videos at the vimeo site.

Because I only can upload 500MB each week you will have to wait for the second part of the 'Hellgirl' paint video until next week. Here are the links to the sketch video and part one (of two) of the paint video:

'Draw & Paint' - Hellgirl - Sketch Video (http://vimeo.com/1647657)

'Draw & Paint' - Hellgirl - Paint Video - Part 1 of 2 (http://vimeo.com/1663301)

The sketch video is shown in real time. The paint video is faster.

Please spread the word and use the image from above.

Have fun and drop me a line if you like the new series!

Best,

Chris

Because some viewers wanted to know:

I am working with a Wacom Intuos3 DinA5 wide tablet.

The video has no sound but some written explanations what I was thinking while working on the image.

I hope you enjoy it!

Thx!

Best,

Chris

Very good stuff. I want to work in Painter more for various reasons, including the canvas rotation. I currently use Photoshop. (I colored this Thor (http://buenoexcellante.deviantart.com/art/Thor-Colors-No-BG-88218205) in Photoshop) Have you ever inked in Painter? I can never find a brush that looks particularly good.

That was awesome!!!

I'm just starting to get into computer coloring, and that was incredibly educational! It was like a 45 minute crash course...thank you for posting that! :)

killingyouguy: Thank you. The canvas rotation is great! It is why I do most of my sketches in painter. I also do my complete sequential layouts and pencil work in painter. The only negative thing is I don't have any original art to sell because everything is done 100% digital. Regarding the ink brush you can use some of the standard ink brushes or do some small modifications. When I am 'inking' my stuff it is done with a black pencil in painter. Regarding your Thor: You should keep an eye on your light sources to give a little bit more depth to it but I also like it as it is. ;) Thx again!

Mikhail: Thank you! That is exactly why I have made this vids. There are some really expensive vids from other artists out there and I think young newcomer artists can't afford this stuff. As I started out I wish there would have been such videos. I remember the time I have bought some video tapes from the series "Comic Book Greats" where Stan Lee talked to some of the Image founders. I couldn't watch this videos with my player because I needed one to play the NTSC format... so I bought one for over 1000$... just to watch this videos. Oh man... :)

costello: You are welcome! Thx!

Josh!: Thank you. Let me know how you liked the videos please.

Best wishes,

Chris

A huge THANK YOU to the www.3dtotal.com guys for putting a link to my vids on their frontpage! I had (for the first Hellgirl sketch video alone!) over 23.000 watchers in only 3 days! Amazing!!!

I remember those videos!! I watched them a lot around ten years ago in a comic book drawing class. There was this one great scene with Todd McFarlane where he said that he never put any thought into his storytelling (or something like that) and he drew this scene where a dude was entering a coffee shop i think it was. Anyway, the dude was far in the background, and in the foreground McFarlane had drawn a guy drinking coffee with stem rising up out of the coffee cup. And McFarlane just kind fo threw together this scene without a thought. Then Stan goes, "But Todd- all these things you drew are all pointing right at the main character entering...the steam is rising and pointing right at him, the tile floor is pointing at him. Everything is drawing your eye right to this caharacter"...And McFarlane goes: "Huh!" And is speechless for a while. For whatever reason that scene really stuck in my impressionable young mind.

Anyway, thanks again for the video! It really was helpful, and you're right about newcomer artists not being able to afford things- so free internet vids (especially those as informative as yours) is a big help! Thankfully, i didn't have to spend nearly as much as you did to watch Stan Lee school Todd McFarlane! :)

I remember this scene ... it is one of my favorites :)
The other scene I loved was when Stan Lee holds the first X-Men (from Jim Lee) into the camera to show the poster in this issue and he always show the double page spread instead... :)

BTW: There are some of the best moments on YouTube... just look for 'Comic Book Greats'.

Thx for your feedback! I really appreciate it.

Best wishes,

Chris
