The 'sequel' to Chinatown, that was pretty much unsuccessful. I just rented it and am about to pop it in.
Anybody else seen it? Is it really that bad?

I didn't think it was that bad though not in the same league as the original.

It ain't Chinatown, but it's not the abortion it was made out to be.
Nicholson should stick to acting rather than directing, but he did an okay job.
Just be glad it got made when it did rather than 9 years earlier when it was originally planned, with Robert Evans playing Keitel's part and Robert Towne directing.

That's kinda what I'm holding out hope for.

I was okay with it... though the directing seemed a little direct-to-video at times.

It's okay. It's not shit, but it's nowhere near the stuff of legend that made Chinatown. I give it three stars out of five.

Not necessarily worth seeing.

Pretty much the textbook example of "too little, too late".

A very interesting failure.

It suffers from unnecessary comparisons to the original. If you ignore that it's Son of Chinatown, then it's enjoyable, if forgettable.

Pretty much the textbook example of "too little, too late".Or too much too soon?

If one is going to make a sequel to a truly great film, there should be a legitimate aspiration of producing a good film. If one does not have a great script, one should have the courage to cut things off there.
How many will even make the case that this film is even better than The Godfather III? GF3 at least achieved a recreation of the scope and feel of the earlier entries. You can tell it is the third chapter. I don't know that the same can be said of this film.

Agreed. Pretty good, but certainly not a must-see.
