He says the movies just aren't very good.

Other than two in the chest one in the head, I don't think anything can be done.

My girlfriend loves MST3K, but sometimes she'll pass on watching certain Rifftrax with me (like anything Star Trek) because she hates the movie. She knows they'll be making fun of it, but I guess that's just not good enough.

It's always strange when a friend "hates Monty Python" or thinks Raising Arizona is awful or whatever. There are no words for it.

I don't know about killing him, but you most assuredly need to shun him like a leper

On a sidenote, has anyone tried Cinematic Titanic yet? I predict failure because it requires too much of a financial investment. I love the CT crew and recognize that they may, in fact, be more "authentic" than the Riff-Trax crew, but I don't have to shell out $15 to buy a DVD in order to enjoy a Riff-Trax show.

Imagine if you had to spend $15/week to enjoy MST3K. I just don't think it would have lasted.

So they stopped sending DVD by mail? that does suck.

Yeah. The first release was a disc without packaging, which sucked. The second one had a package, but I didn't bother with it. And I just got an email about WASP WOMAN that says that I have to pay for the data, but burn my own disc. Fuck that.

wow. That is shitty. I know that with the first disc there was 2 ways to purchase it..you could buy the disc and they would mail it to you or you could buy the data and burn it yourself (buying the data was cheaper if I remember correctly). I'm surprised they decided to do away with the disc by mail all together.

Well to be fair...with Rifftrax you aren't getting the movie. You just get the commentary and have to get the movie on your own. And then you have to figure out your own way to watch it (either with the rifftrax app on your computer, or figure out a way to make your own DVDs).

Remember they did do the Film Crew discs in which you had to buy them to watch them. You got the movie and some skits on a disc in some DVD packaging. Outside of renting them, you have no other way to watch them.

Getting the rights to be able to put the movie on a disc and riff it costs more than just making a commentary track.

Rifftrax is about two things: VOLUME (There are lots and lots of releases) and riffing on movies they'd NEVER be able to get the rights to.

All I ask from Cinematic Titanic is consistency. Do it one way and one way only. Like FILM CREW did.

I think the Film Crew way is the best way to get these things out there. But I'm biased, as until the last couple weeks I didn't even have a home computer to download stuff on.

I don't like it either.

I get that the movies are bad. They're supposed to be, but the jokes aren't even funny. I watched 3 episodes and didn't laugh once. Not my cup of tea.

On the flip-side, my wife LOVES it. She thinks it's hillarious.

There was a glitch with the third DVD, and it's been delayed til Monday.

Fucking Monday!

It's really not that big a deal, frustrating though it may be. :)

Cuz that's the only way I could see someone not getting any enjoyment out of this how, painful movie or no.

My best friend recently came around after hating the show for years. But he was lucky. The first two episodes he watched were manos and Horror of Party Beach. Two classics. But if you draw a stinker your first time out (like the Hamlet episode or most of season one) then yeah you might be turned off to it.

Well, you make excellent point. I think the major distinction is psychological: for $3, I can buy the Riff-Trax commentary. Sure, I may not have the movie, but there's a good chance I can rent it at Blockbuster for $4 or add it to a Netflix queue for "free." Beyond that, I don't mind the wrangling to get everything synched up, and I also notice that Riff-Trax now offers a free download of a video player that does the synching for you. That's ingenious, but I don't want to have to use my laptop to watch movies, so it's not much use to me.

That said, I'm withdrawing my prediction of Cinematic Titanic failure after browsing through the large selection of single movie MST3K DVDs on sale at the Virgin Megastore last night. Obviously there's a market for something like this, and I failed to appreciate it.

It's just a boring episode. It's a tough movie to riff, because the script is technically excellent, but the movie itself is poorly made. I remember dozing off while watching it.

Yep. Bad riffs, boring movie. It might have been a cheap production, but it's still Hamlet and kind of hard to mock. Now if it had be Hamlet starring Joe Don Baker and Jim Stafford, that would've been different.

Cuz that's the only way I could see someone not getting any enjoyment out of this how, painful movie or no. It was a LONG time ago. All I can remember from one episode is I think it was a Conan ripoff, and the main character stormed a castle. I remember an airial shot of the Conan-guy hanggliding towards the castle, and a downward shot where the cast made fun of some vehicle tracks in the field. About 4-wheelin fun.

All I can remember is not liking it. Other episodes I watched were b/w movies they were ripping on, and I got like, halfway through it and was bored each time. I figured I'd give it a few chances since people love it so much, but the jokes just weren't funny to me. "I can make fun of a movie myself and be funnier" I thought.

My wife loves it because she grew up making fun of old monster movies with her pops.

Just not my cup of tea, I guess.

Actually, that one there is not a favorite of mine. Very slow, boring... their riffs aren't their best there, I'll admit. And I'll admit not every episode ever is gold.

But I'd still rank it as one of the funniest shows ever on TV (if not funniest). But hey, yeah, different strokes n' all. I may not respect your opinion, but I respect you. :)

I ordered the new Cinematic Titanic this morning. Between that, Memento from Rifftrax, working on a riffed script of Die Hard and a live riffing of I,Robot by RiffRaff Theater in Iowa City on Friday, I'm going to have a riff-filled week
