It's a nice little novelty, I guess. But I do kinda wish she'd either write something new or just retire happily on her Potter earnings. I'd totally be there for a new story set in the Harry Potter "universe" if she has a good idea for one. But continuing to do stuff like this and her long-threatened Potter-encyclopedia just feels a bit like the boy wizard's corpse is being humped.

The guy who paid $4 million for it at auction must feel like a total dope now.

Isn't that one/two page "prequel" supposed to come out this month in some charity compilation book?

Amazon.com bought it, and they're planning on selling a special collector's edition of the book for $100.00 a pop.

Solidarity. I've seen the movies and they were enough to make me want to puke.

The movies, to be honest, are mostly of interest out of a curiosity to see what the books look like on screen. I just don't think they stand alone, the storyline actually has a few holes in it which just assume you already know the subtleties from the books.
They've been getting steadily better, though. But I am utterly sceptical of the decision to split the 7th book into two movies.

Figured it was just a matter of time... not terribly excited about this, I'd rather see her write a new novel, Potter, or something else.
But even so, with all the post-Potter story reveals, she obviously has more story to tell. I'd like to see her write it.

Good. Publicizing it and not releasing it was kind of a shitty move, but I had a feeling this would happen.

Proceeds from both versions are going to a children's charity that Rowling herself co-founded a few years ago.
From Amazon:
The Tales of Beedle the Bard is published by The Children's High Level Group (CHLG), registered charity number 1112575, a charity co-founded in 2005 by J K Rowling and Emma Nicholson MEP to make life better for vulnerable children.
All net proceeds from the sale will be donated to The Children's Voice campaign.
The Children’s Voice campaign is run by CHLG. It campaigns for child rights across Europe, particularly in Eastern Europe where over a million children and teenagers are growing up in institutions, often in unacceptable conditions. In most cases they are without adequate human or emotional contact and stimulation, while many only just survive without life’s basics such as adequate shelter and food.
CHLG's Children’s Voice campaign helps around a quarter of a million children each year through education activities; outreach work in institutions; and a dedicated telephone and email help line.
Is this that one page thing?

Nope I don't read books so never read a harry Potter whatever.
Also it's hers to make money with. So she can rape that poor little wizard over and over again as long as the masses keep paying.

So, I'm the ONLY one here who will admit to being TOTALLY jazzed by this announcement? Who adores JK and all her work? The only one?

No, that was made to the public. This book contains the fairy tales mentioned in Deathly Hallows.

Yeah, but I would like to see Rowling announce she's writing another novel instead.

I think it's the opposite, which is why she jumped 20 years into the future for the epilogue.
I'm pre-ordering it.

I'm going to pick it up, but the $7 hardcover and not the freakin $100 collectors edition.

Did appreciate that the epilogue was partly meant to tie off the whole Potter/Weasleys storyline and reduce any clamourings for a sequel. But still... I suppose writing her own novelty tie-in books is a way of controlling the quality, but she doesn't have any more actual stories in her?

I just pre-ordered the collector's edition from Amazon. Can't decide yet if it's something I'll want to keep, or if it would be a good Christmas gift for my Mom.

I'll read it. I'm sure it'll be a fun book.
I kinda wish if she's going to continue doing this Potter-verse books that aren't part of the main series that she'd do the rumoured "Hogwarts: A History" book though. That sounded fucking awesome!

I loved the Potter books to no end, hate the movies to my very core, and I'll very likely buy this for my kids and maybe end up reading it myself. But I'm of the party that's a fan of Harry, but not necessarily interested in experiencing Harry's world beyond chocolate frogs and every flavor beans.

I think the idea of all this money going to charity for children is even more special than the idea that only 7 were produced.

i liked the harry potter universe. it was a great story. i wish she would continue it, or sanction a league of writers to do it for her, similar to the star wars expanded universe. why not? george lucas did it, why not her? it makes sense business wise

Oh, I will. Just disappointed, especially since it was something some guy spent millions on to get, as it was promoted that it was one of seven. Ever.

Amazon bought that copy, and since they're instrumental with getting it out to the masses, they don't seem very pissed.

Oh, well then. Guess I still don't care.
But seriously, it'll be ok, but probably a lot like the two "schoolbooks" she did years ago that were pretty shallow.
