Besides air fare, which can vary greatly depending on where you are coming from, how much are you spending on comic con this year?

A friend and I are planning on possibly going next year and we wanted to get an idea of how much to budget for, since we have a year to plan and save. thanks!

I went a couple of times and between food, hotels, and stuff, I dropped $2000 easy. It would have been real easy to blow through twice that much.

Plans to continue to just mail order comics because justifying the expense is just too hard.

It really depends on what one is going to be doing there; back-issue hunting, bargain shopping, buying exclusives, getting commissioned art. One could have a good time without spending any money beyond the admission.

probably won't spend too much at all on trades, back issues, or memorabilia. maybe a statue or two but that's about it. it's more about the experience.

whenever i do the NY comic con, i only spend a few hundred bucks on stuff. i'm not a big spender at shows.

When i went i spent just under $2000 and I was budgeting if you want to have fun bring more.
A large chunk of that was airfare from toronto which is stupidly expensive.
I had the benefit of rooming with Neil and Cuts so it was cheaper.

Did you know that picture was Nazi propaganda?

It's still funny, though. :)

Not been to SDCC, but two big factors are how many people you are/are willing to share with and how much you eat.

They have quite a few hostels around here for anyone willing to go that route. Otherwise try to quad up on your room to save money. Actually getting a room is likely to be a bigger hassle than you are expecting. You absolutely must go at it when they open sales up. You can eat fairly cheap if you really set your mind to it. There is some fast food a couple of block away, but the lines get pretty long. Five blocks away is a mall with a food court. There is a supermarket about two blocks from the hall.

Going four to a room, one should be able to get by on $1,000 food and lodging if they really budget themselves tight. Get someone to drive you from LA and fly Jet Blue to Long Beach, that could save you quite a bit as well.

I make it a point to put aside money all year in preparation. Not counting airfare and hotel, I usually make it a point to have atleast 1500. Of course that's for two people, I'm married and if I get anything cool then she has to have something equally expensive.

100 bucks but that's only because I'm still in Toronto and a friend of mine who's there is picking up the Dave Bullock, Darwyn Cooke & Cameron Stewart art books for me :D
