Welcome to the 2nd Regular Season of the DC/Marvel Fantasy League. As always PLEASE VOTE FOR THE BEST STRATEGEY, NOT YOUR FAVORITE POSTER OR CHARACTERS.

League of Hope vs. Watchdogs

Rosters:

Statesman
Elastigirl
Green Arrow
Adam Strange
Uncle Sam
Plastic Man
Krypto

Superman, Captain Comet, Invincible, Wonder Man, Guy Gardner, Captain John Shepard and Merlin

Location: Rann Wilderness

Strategies:
Ollie- Hey Sam, are you crazy? Have you seen the film on these guys? I think you might want to get Superman or Kilowag in on this. We need power.

Sam- Power is one thing, but we have spirit! I want everyone to fight. I want everyone to have a chance to show their stuff.

G’Nort- Me?

Sam- No yet.

Adam Strange- We’re fighting on my adopted home of Rann, so Sam asked me to work out a plan.

We start out in the wilderness. It’s pretty wild out there, all kinds of monsters running around, carnivorous plants, just nasties by the busload. Read the packet I made up for each of you, and be careful where you step.

We’ll start with the whole team holding on to Rita.

Rita- Watch the hands.. I’m joking!

Adam Strange- She can use that physical contact to extend her powers to the rest of the team. She’ll shrink them all down really small. Superman will be able to see us eventually, but by then the trap is sprung.

While we’re still tiny, I’ll get a lock on and use my personal Zeta Beamer on Superman, teleporting him to the farthest extreme range. Since the Zeta Beam works through visual contact, and I have enhanced vision, I shouldn’t have a problem keeping Superman in sight long enough for this to work. Clark will be light years away, and too far for even Superman to get back here anytime soon. Then I break off from Rita to help Ollie

This Captain John Shepard is something of a future soldier/space marine type. A tough guy for sure, but I think Ollie can give him a serious fight once he returns to normal size. The guy has fought side by side with Batman and Superman against all sorts of creepy crawlies. A few carefully placed boxing glove arrows to the face, and the space marine goes down. I can also pitch in once Superman is Zeta-ed away. I have yet to meet a “space man” I can’t take down.

The two of us will then break off and take up positions in more of a “trouble-maker” capacity. I’ll cloak myself and zip around with his jetpack, trying to drive some of the native Rannian wildlife to the battlefield. These animals are wild, violent and skittish. At the very least it will cause some chaos. Ollie can duck into the wilderness and take his shots from cover. He’s been here before, he’ll know where to go. A tazer arrow here, and explosive arrow there, best case scenario they take someone out, and at the very least they’ll cause a distraction. Our first target will be Merlin.

Ollie- Merlin? Freakin Merlin? Really?

Bobo- You do have an immortal chimp detective and the spirit of America on your team.

Ollie- Fair point.

Adam- I knows Ran better than anyone, so I’ll be able to use the terrain to our advantage.

Rita will then use her powers on Krypto, by holding onto his collar, she will grow him to the maximum size possible. This will result in a super dog roughly the size of an aircraft carrier, flying around at superspeed, with laser beam eyes blasting like a pair of twin suns.

Krypto- Yip!

Adam- The rest of the team will ride on his back, using him as a mobile weapons platform and troop transport.

As Krypto flys at Merlin, Statesman will use that momentum, added to his own considerable speed, to fly at him like an indestructible rocket. Merlin is very powerful, but his powers are from old magic, magic if the ancient ones, the druids. Magic of the Earth. Will they work on Rann?

Zatanna- Maybe. Rann is similar in many ways, but the flora and fauna are completely different. It will take Merlin a little time to adjust, it does for me, and my magic isn‘t nearly an ancient.

Statesman- And keep in mind, I am powered by the Zeus himself. My might comes from magic, so I’m not really vulnerable to it.

Adam- A knock to the head, an arrow from the brush, or a blaster shot, and Merlin should go down. Statesman then makes a b-line for Invincible. They will be pretty closely matched, but Statesman has some range attacks and way more experience. The guy has been fighting for a hundred years, he must have picked up a thing or two.

Plastic Man will concentrate on Wonder Man.

Plas- We should beat him up for wearing that jacket. Is he Diana from that sexy alternate universe where genders are reversed?

Zatanna- Not really.

Adam- Wonder Man is very strong, but I don’t really see what he can do to hurt Plas. Punches won’t hurt him, if he tries to rip him apart, he can just reform. The goal will be to restrain him, form a giant slingshot or cannon, and send him as far away as possible. Try to get him into orbit. It won’t kill him, but it will take him out of the fight. If he can’t get him out of there, he will be able to keep him busy. Tangle Wonder Man up.

Sam will engage Captain Comet. Comet will most likely be in the air, but Sam can just alter his size, wait for Krypto to fly by, and grab him. Sam isn’t human, so Comet’s mental powers shouldn’t work exactly the same. Sam can use his incredible strength, size, and durability to pin him down and beat him into submission. It will really depend on speed and surprise. If Sam can get in there and keep him off balance, he should be ok. Sam is a scrapper, Comet is more used to range and mental powers. He’s the type to avoid a tussle if he can. And Sam has way more experience. If he can get his hands on Comet, the fight shouldn’t last that long. But don’t underestimate him. Comet has been around for a while, and he’s dangerous. Anyone that’s finished with their initial dance partner should be prepared to hit him, and hit him hard. Maybe Ollie can use one of those mental scramblers he keeps on hand for Despero.

Giant Krypto and Rita will start off concentrating on Guy. Guy is pretty experienced with fighting giant monsters, but giant Krypto is a whole different level of power. As Superboy Prime proved, a determined Kryptonian can take out a Lantern. Guy is also very cocky, so he may not take the dog as seriously as he should. He can just fly into him at full speed, ring or no ring, it’s gonna hurt. Any kind of ring construct leash or muzzle, Krypto should be able to power through it. He doesn’t know from will power, he’s just a big ol’ dog. Rita can also alter his size to escape from any of that stuff. Also, Rita is going to be on his back, so she can expand her arms and grab or punch him to help out. We all know Guy has a bit of a glass jaw, so one well placed punch and he’s done.

Sam- We are facing a much stronger team here, but I think if we’re fast and sneaky we have a pretty good chance.

[QUOTE=Shadowline Pimp]STRATEGY
At the very start of the battle, Superman will immediately go after Elasti-Girl relying on his superspeed to allow him to zoom right up to her and knock her out with one punch (no offense, Guy).. If she grows to the size of a skyscraper he will just have a bigger target and have less of a need to hold back his strength. If she goes microscopic he’ll just use his telescopic vision to pick her off with superbreath and freeze her in her teeny tiny tracks. Once his fight with Elasti-girl is over, Superman will go to assist….

.. Invincible and his fight with Krypto. Yes, Krypto is just a dog, but he’s as powerful as virtually anyone else on my team not named Superman., if not even more so. Invincible’s job is to keep Krypto busy for the few moments he will be fighting solo (his powers and invincibility will help here). The idea is that Krypto has shown a tendency to bond with younger heroes (Connor Kent, Jimmy Olsen) and Invincible will try to charm the pup with his Peter Parker-like bantering skills. Once Superman is able assist he will see if Krypto will listen to Superman’s command to stop battling his team. If that doesn’t work then Superman and Invincible will have to combine their might to show man’s best friend who’s boss. Considering Superman-Prime was able to defeat Krypto, the two tanks should be able to eventually get Krypto to roll over.

Knowing that he’s going to another planet and doing battle with some big guns, Merlin will have to use some of his magic to protect himself this battle -- so he arrives while protecting himself with a “Globe of Invilnerability” spell. With Statesman essentially being another Superman, the idea it to target what is going to be a similar weakness to magic so facing him and early is Merlin’s mission. While fireballs and lightning bolts will do no more than pose a nuisance for someone that is a cross between Zeus and the Man of Steel, a “Flesh to Stone” spell will be much more useful. While this spell will turn our most formidable foe into a statue it’s also reversible and Superman has made it clear that the team’s strategy must take that into consideration.

Wonder Man will use his strength and abilities to overmatch Adam Strange and his various ray-guns and rocket pack. Ion blasts will outgun the guns and his instantaneous reflexes, formidable brawn and flight will allow him to catch up to or evade this Buck Rogers ripoff as the need arises. Adam Strange will need to either escape somewhere on his adopted homeworld or risk losing badly in front of the rest of the Rannlings.

Guy Gardner finds himself faced against someone who just recently was an ally of some of his teammates. What Plastic Man may have in wit, Guy has in equal proportion. What Plasty has in ability, Guy’s ring and his willpower has in spades. He’ll use the ring to surround Plastic-Man in a prison-shaped containment field, reminding him of his days as a criminal, and then shrink the field making it smaller and smaller until he is pressed into the tiniest of confined spaces (which is one of Eel’s known weaknesses). Once Plastic-Man is out of commission Guy will fly out of Rann’s atmosphere and, converting the miniature prison into a slingshot, toss Plasty far away from Rann. Since Plastic-Man does not need to breathe, Guy know he will survive this technique and they will be able to retrieve his body once the fight is over if needed. Guy can then return to the fight to help anyone who needs his assistance.

Captain Comet’s target is Uncle Sam, who in this battle is out of his element. There’s nothing American about Rann and facing a foe who isn’t even human means the idea of fighting Uncle Sam is no different than fighting any other enemy. With Comet’s mental and physical abilities and Uncle Sam not being in an arena where his powers would be at their peak, he will be able to hit Uncle Sam with an array of brute force and telepathic pummeling until Sam has an approval rating lower than George W. Bush.

Commander John Shepard is left to battle Green Arrow, who can’t hit someone with an arrow when that person can deflect essentially everything shot their way with a forcefield. And that’s only the beginning of Shepard’s abilities as a Sentinel. Once he repels the first inevitable boxing glove arrow Shepard uses his military training and weaponry to pin Ollie into a corner or out into the open. Shepard will then use his biotic-enhanced “lift” ability to disarm Green Arrow then hit him full force with a “throw.” This will toss a very human and very vulnerable Green Arrow against the nearest immovable object with such force to render him unconscious.

Giant Krypto is awesome, but there's absolutely no way Ollie could take out John Shepherd.

Sorry, Steve. You won on entertainment, but Pimp won on points.

Giant Krypto, huh?

Good strategy, Steve. I didn't see anything about Statesman being immune to magic (and I had to read up a lot on him because I never played that videogame) but if he is...damn...they went and created an unstoppable character.

Should be a fun match. May the best team win!

I think the best way to deal with Statesman is to just get him away somehow, rather than try to flat out defeat him. Wish I'd read up more on him before Steve picked him - I might have vetoed!

Hmmm, both teams have a pretty big flaw: Merlin vs Statesman and Green Arrow vs John Shepard. If I just assume that the League's plan to stop Statesman failed as well as the Watchdogs plan to stop John Shepard failed, Statesman poses a much larger threat to his opponants. I have to go with the Watchdogs. Sorry Pimp.

Well to be fair, the reference for this Shepherd character is sketchy at best. I couldn't find anything myself and the reference that Funk sent me said nothing about powers or abilities. I pretty much just guessed.

If I was going in this as a reader, I really don't know how I would vote. It's pretty even. My first move was to get Superman off the field since he could get Krypto out of the fight by saying "Sit".

I do think I should have picked a weaker team to try my "bench some of the stronger members" experiment on.

I may be dropping him for this very reason. It's one thing to pick an obscure character that's fun to use, but I'm not out there to throw a wrench into the works making it impossible for people to strategize against him.

And honestly, as much as I like having a movie character and a video game character, I think it over complicates things and takes away from the game. It makes it tougher to come up with plans because you have to figure out all these obscure characters we are pulling out of our collective butts. Like Statesman. I didn't think I was going to be able to get a Superman, so I picked him, but no one really knows anything about him. His powers aren't even really explained in the game.

I don't think we need them.

Didn't he kidnap Minnie Mouse or something? My point is, if it was some vague collection it would be fine, but it's not. It's the DC/Marvel Fantasy League. All this other stuff dilutes it. (And I say that as a person with pretty damn cool video game/movie characters)

I just don't think we need them. There are so many options already, why fill out the roster with characters we don't need.

And what if I am? What are you going to do about it? Chase me down with a magic key sword? Ooohh scary!

Because it's fun?

Characters cross into the Marvel and DC dimensions all the time.

Indie is the only way you can get a non mainstream Marvel/DC character in. And I love the dead character rule.

As someone who was on the outside of this league last year, there are some incredibly talented writers on this board and since we don't have "Draw (insert character name) From the Head Up" threads for writers, this is the best way we have to see the talent of these folks.
