I'm doing some fantasy casting to get ready for the pilot I'm pitching for TV, and I need suggestions for an actor who would play the police chief. Ideally, a movie character actor who could play warm, but be hiding a nasty streak. Any help would be appreciated!

And I should specify--it has to be enough of a name that they'll recognize (James Cromwell, for example), but hopefully someone you wouldn't naturally picture in that role. Easy, right?

I agree with Patton on Avery Brooks. The man is a bad ass in pretty much everything he does.

James Cromwell for the win!
I don't really know how much of a victory that win really is, considering it was the one actor that he used as an example.
