View Full Version : So the Old Lady and I broke Up

Turns out we just can't live together, and that kind of puts the brakes on anything longer term then what we already have. It was an interesting experiment at least, and worthwhile. And we are still on great terms.

So now I am playing an amazing game called "Finding a place to live in San Francisco."

All I know so far is this town is full of crazy people, and they like to have these open houses that seem to be like some kind of audition for a reality show.

Sorry to hear that...though certainly calling her the old lady couldn't have helped matters. :)

Seriously though, how long were you together and what was the breaking point about living together?

What about "dame?"

Seriously though, how long were you together and what was the breaking point about living together?

Together off and on for 4 years or so... there were a few large "breaks."

Reasons for the living situation not working out.

-Her always wanting to stay in when I want to go out, and vice versa.
-Me working a 9-5 job while she works occasionally, goes to school occasionally, and pretty much is a trust fund adult.
-Her getting jealous at every female I know, no matter how long I have known them for.
-Incredibly different ideas about what "clean" means
-Incredibly different ideas about what "loud" means
-Incredibly different ideas about what "grocery shopping" means
-Incredibly different ideas about what "alone time" means
-We don't have nearly as much in common as we thought we did, besides the fact that we both like sex and... I am sure there is more.

I could go on and on about petty nonsense, but it would dull you all. Maybe the fact that she just would not give BSG a chance was the breaking point. But the real breaking point was both of us realizing it wasn't working and that we are 27, so we best cash in our chips now and move on instead of regretting trying to force something that just won't work later.

I love the hell out of her though, despite all this nonsense.

"Old lady" is an awesome throwback term that I use frequently, but wouldn't use to describe my own. :)

I was waiting for you to bring that up.

Thankfully this city is full of 1,000s of gorgeous girls.

Then go look for her? Maybe you'll get something good out of it. Anyone chick who reads Astonishing X-Men can't be that bad.

And hope things get better for you MCD.

There are also lots of gay dudes. Might be time to broaden your horizons!

First, sorry to hear things didn't work out. Hope you get settled in soon.

On another note - I call women chicks, dames and broads all the time - that's what we are. We are also hos and bints and bitches. Oh, and don't forget nags and hags and old bags.

I have absolutely no respect for my own kind.

why, if you use the term "old lady", you're referring to your significant other ... but if you say "old man" you're referring to your dad? can a girl use "old man" and refer to her significant other and not her dad?

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, but I have to say that her and I are actually happy about this. It makes way more sense then bickering all the time and it will prevent us from eventually devolving into the Bunker family.

I have used it in the Tombstone "come on, old man" sense to Colin. I guess he's just my Virgil Earp.

Sorry to hear that man, but you seem pretty okay with it. That'll probably wear off after a few days and you'll have the whole awkward moving out thing. Watch the sex with her after you start dating other people thing, though. That one cost me a pretty good woman (not that I'm with a terrible woman now, I'm a tremendous overachiever), but the one that got away was very, very nice. She's also now dating a good acquaintance of mine, which really sucks at parties.

Yeah, funny how I can turn a thread about you into a thread about me :)

Too soon for turning gay, but never too soon for jokes.

"Kind of Semi Doable?!"
Hmmm, on average - do gay men tend to have lower or higher standards then the average woman?

Different kind of standards. Gay men are more interested in physical attractiveness than women but...

Gay men are also very "type" fixated. So what is physically attractive to one gay men, may not even be remotely attractive to another.

Fascinating.

More women should be "Type" fixated.
