okay, I realize I'm probably talking to a legion of xbox 360 peeps on here, but who's getting the Metal Gear Solid 4 game for ps3 tonight? well, not sure if my store is doing the midnight opening, but it's out tomorrow.

I love stealth games and cannot wait for this to drop. the stuff I have watched online is just amazing, and the online stuff I saw at the NYC con was pretty incredible as well.

sigh, 38 and all fanboyish about vid games. but my generation is allowed to be like this, right? at least guys that draw comics and produce wrestling vids? anyone...? heh heh

very cool site put together by the 1up.com peeps. the play throughs are worth checking out. the podcast is a wee bit annoying. one of these guys on 1up.com makes alot of "licky" sounds when he talks.

I'm picking mine up tomorrow after lunch, but the wife tells me I can't play until she gets home so she can see it from the start.

I still need to figure out how to get online with it.

my wife is not interested in this game, but we did buy the ps3 when she saw the first commercial for Soul Caliber 3 that featured Darth Vader for this system over the yoda for xbox 360. no contest there...

online? I think you have to subscribe through playstation online for that. I'm not bothering. I honestly do not play games enough to justify getting a subscription like that

I have to wait til the morning. My Gamestop didn't do the midnight :( (and they usually do all the midnights) The worst thing is I have to work for 10 hours tomorrow (from 3PM to 1AM) so I barely even get to play. Thankfully I'm off Friday.

let me guess... east brunswick gamestop? I spoke to the manager there and the reason they passed on it was due to the minimal pre-orders. something like 25.

I'm heading there first thing in the morning

I did the whole midnight thing and just finished putting 2 hours into it, and I think I actually played it for about 12 minutes. I just met the arms dealer. So far it's pretty cool I just hope I can find a way to make time to complete it.

I watched all of the behind the scenes stuff on the bluray and dvd discs I got with the special edition from gamestop. started playing the game, but man, I have to read up more on this one. I suck! just amazing though; I got kicked to the curb (no, really!) by one of those giant robots and my leg to a little shakey thing, something that sometimes happens when a person is knocked out.

Tom is playing it now and can't figure out how to NOT DIE within minutes. I have been giving timeframes of how long it will take him before he dies. Sad. He's not stealth like. He is playing on Normal. Can't figure out how to fire the gun either. :angry:oh well, i need to go make fun of him some more. So if anyone is on and wants to give my NON gaming God a little help, please feel free. Or you can poke fun at him either way it's funny.

yeah, no kidding. I have the giant book, so I have to read through it. I was running around with the knife, but good luck using that against the giant robot. sigh...

You should avoid the giant robot completely. When the very first one come down next to you. Backtrack away from him.

yeah, that is what I figured after the fact. keeping forgetting that with the mgs series, it's all about sneaking around, and "not" killing that gets you through the game. thanks!

You actually don't need to pay anything to get online with the PS3. All you need to play Metal Gear online is the game itself and a Konami ID and Game ID (which itself is kind of a huge pain in the ass, but free).

So How far along is everybody?
I just started the third act.
One tip for anyone is sometimes hiding under things is the best way to kill what you're fighting.

I find I enjoy taking enemy soliders out with my AK. and I can do it from a few blocks away. does that make me a bad person?

No it doesn't.
How far have you gotten?

not far at all. I'm treating this game like grand theft auto. I'm having so much fun just going in and taking my time as I take out tons of soldiers. I put in a few hours yesterday, but i have been busy on a plushform painting ( http://www.shawnimals.com ) for a show I'm in that will be up in Chicago.

I finished up the third act last night... man... I started playing at 11pm. I beat the boss of that act around 12:30. I didn't get to sleep until 2am because of all the cutscenes...

Tschloendorn
06-17-2008, 05:54 AM
Yeah cut scenes in this one are extremely long.
Something I just read on another site.

If you traq the bosses in each stage you get some kind of doll.I have no idea what they are for,I didn't buy the guide, just thought I'd put that out there.

I'm loving this game!

I was talking to Lazlow from rock star games earlier today (yeah, I can drop names) and I was telling him how it is amazing to me how the influence of the Grand Theft Auto series has now even gone so far as to influence a franchise that started well before them. Metal Gear is now a game where you can have a blast either going through the different levels playing the way it was designed to run, or play like an ass like I am, and just take an hour here and there and go through the middle east and see how many people you can kill. this will have a very long shelf life for me.

just received in the mail a special edition (actually the "spring edition" as it was referred to when I ordered it by phone) from Playstation magazine for Metal Gear Solid. The magazine is called "Metal Gear Solid: The Complete Guide." The Playstation peeps did an amazing job on this one; loaded with info on the latest game obviously, but also provides an amazing amount of information on the other incarnations. this one is probably very hard to find on the shelves, so if you are hardcore about MGS I suggest calling them up directly. and oddly enough, I got it for $7 including shipping but the magazine on the shelves will run you $10

well worth it
