As for the new actor, meh. Toby was pretty good but I suppose the new guy will work, too.

I'd rather he stick to non-superhero films, though. I still can't believe he's doing GI Joe.
I never did like Tobey McGuire as Peter Parker. Recasting is a good idea.

Neither of those actors look like Peter Parker to me. However, if they had to pick one, I'd say the second one looks more like Peter than the first guy.
Either way, if even remotely true, I think there would easily be more inspired casting than this.

I like Michael Angarano... but is probably way too young.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt! Joseph Gordon-Levitt!
It may not be as good as The Lookout or Brick, but he's my top choice for a re-casted Spider-Man right now.

Why is he too young? Peter was in college in the movies, and Michael is twenty-one this year, and he'd be twenty-three by the time the next movie would be released. Patrick, on the other hand, is twenty-six this year and will be twenty-eight by the time Spider-Man 4 comes out. If Marvel wants to do another trilogy (or at least a fifth movie), they may want to pick someone who will have some youthful longevity.

I think that's kinda the point. I don't think this is going to be a reboot like BATMAN BEGINS (or even a relaunch like THE INCREDIBLE HULK), but I think their recasting to keep Peter Parker from getting "too old," not to mention making sure they have an actor who will do another three movies without having to pay them $30+ million for each.

I still don't get the idea of how there can be enough Spider-Man stories to publish comics monthly for four decades, but we've somehow exhausted everything after four movies...
Dunst is the one that needs to be re-cast, if anyone.

We haven't, I don't think anyone is arguing that.
Much like we still had stories for Batman movies without the need for Batman Begins.

I dont know what happened. I've heard from some people that he basically phoned the entire movie in and didn't really care. If that's true, that makes me despise him even more. That wouldn't just make it a bad directing gig, it would show him for a lazy and inconsiderate asshole.

So....reboot?
The original trilogy is far too high profile and profitable to reboot.
I was watching 'How I Met Your Mother', and these analogues came to me. Instant cast!
Ted = Peter
Robin = Mary Jane
Barney = Harry
Marshall & Lily = Ned Leeds & Betty Brant
Stella = Gwen

You have to play loose with the continuity. It's the same character, but it isn't. They're not going to continue to age Peter Parker. That is a reason why Tobey would eventually have been replaced anyway.
The only reason to continue, rather than start over, is because we don't need to see an origin story over and over again.
Personally, I think Peter from Heroes would make a great Peter Parker but he's probably older than they'd want to start a Peter Parker at.

Yeah, but that's because he's snarky. It's easier to play that kind of humor when the character can be a little cocky and sarcastic. That wouldn't fit Peter Parker very well.
This will probably be seen as controversial, but I don't think wise cracks are a definitive trait of Spider-Man. I think Stan just wrote that way in general for all the characters and it came out in the action because Stan felt he needed to write something there. From what I've read, Ditko never liked that and I always felt he did most of the storytelling with the Marvel Style, especially the Stan Lee with Ditko or Kirby Marvel Style.
But then, I think Spider-Man was originally almost a pulp character, which got lost when Romita took over and make him "your friendly neighborhood..."
Ah, icons...

Correct.
Let's have Tobey back without Kirsten. Please.

Well, I could maybe see them having Peter graduate college in one of the upcoming films (seeing as how he's already about halfway through anyway), but that's probably as far as it would go.

Key words there being "Tony Stark." As Iron Man, he was mostly silent and serious, like every other superhero in a movie, Spidey included. It's just how it goes. People chatting (thru a mask no less) while they fly all over the place and explosions are going off would be pretty difficult to do convincingly in live action. I'd love a funny Spider-Man, but it's easy to understand why he and the other superheroes mostly stay quite while they're working.

If you distill the basic premises of those 40 years worth of ideas, you have about 8 storylines repeated over and over and over.

If they want to continue this franchise, I think they need to start thinking about recasting. Raimi's got to want to do something new. Same with Maguire and Dunst, plus they're going to get too old. A reboot doesn't make much sense, so retool. People accepted new Batmans with any problem.

3 was a horrible movie - I think based on the fact that they had next to no script at the start of shooting and were making stuff up as they went along.
Dunst is a good actress - but mis-cast as MJ.
The 'cast' at the Bugle were all fine.. JJJ, Betty, Robbie - all those guys could come back.

I was okay with Tobey Macguire as Peter/Spidey... dont really care if they replace him or not.. and as much as I hate to say it, I got a very "spidey" feel from Shia Lebouf (sp) during the vine swinging scene in Indy.. yeah, he's in everything.. but he could pull it off.
Dunst, I've NEVER been a fan of as MJ. Mary Jane is supposed to be a bomb shell.. and, to me, no matter what they do with her, Dunst is never gonna be that.
Anything has to be better than Spidey 3... so what ever they do, ill check out.

According to IMDB (a paragon of all that is reliable, I know, but stick around) Adam Brody wants to be a contenda. Not surprising considering he basically has a four year audition tape called "The O.C." Guy is quippy as what fuckin' all. I think he even crawled around in a Spidey mask at one point.
