Here it is!

The first solicits for Dan's much anticipated 6 part story arc NEW WAYS TO DIE and it looks like he's bringing along Mark Waid and Adi Granov for an extra story :D

http://www.marvel.com/news/comicstories.3635.First_Look~colon~_August_2008_Sp ider-Man_Comics

Also of note, Zeb Wells who'll be leaving the Spidey braintrust :( is teaming up with Angel Medina for a new Venom mini. :)

I really couldn't pick a better creative team.

If someone said to me, Gary pick the two people in the whole world you would like to be doing this book, I'd pick Slott and JRjr.

I'd think about Slott and Ditko for a minute but that wouldn't feel right for some reason.

Don't know the scheduling for the September ASM issues, but if we're lucky, since the first 2 issues of New Days to Die is being released for the last 2 weeks of August, then it will literalily be 5 straight weeks of ASM!

If we're REALLY lucky, Marvel will spare us from waiting 2 weeks for the conclusion and just have September as a month of weekly Spidey stories. I NEED IT!

Thanks to Omega Flight, I became aware of some preview art of Dan's co-written story with Bob Gale and Guggs and Gugg's next arc guest starring Daredevil, but more importantly a page from NEW WAYS TO DIE!! Why this wasn't posted here sooner I'll never know. 1 word- BULLSEYE :bullseye:

Spidey against the Tbolts? Wow! With Radioactive Man able to shut down his spider powers, he's in big trouble. And we all love that.
While I'm couldn't care less about Spidey/Norman or Spidey/Venom encourters (been there, done that to the death), I can't wait to see some Spidey/Songbird, Spidey/Moonstone and of course Spidey/Penance&P-Cat interactions.

I don't think it works that way. Also Spider-Man has taken on the Thunderbolts before. (See Avengers/Invaders #1) And he was able to kick their asses for a bit.

I find it funny that it shows Radioactive Man taking on a Thor dummy specifically since Thor was the comic Radioactive Man made his first appearance in, and was beaten by the title character.

Not exactly--Spidey was able to evade them long enough to avoid getting his ass kicked, and then once the Invaders arrived he had some back-up to help him out. Spidey wasn't even trying to fight them solo--he was making a run for it.

The last time Spidey went up against the T-Bolts before that, he got his butt kicked (of course, it was a different T-Bolts line-up, although Radioactive Man and Songbird were both still part of the group). Spidey solo against the T-Bolts will definately be a tough time for him. As already mentioned, Radioactive Man can drain his powers (he's done it before), and has gone toe-to-toe with the likes of Thor and Iron Man. Osborn and Venom have each been able to give Spidey a tough time on their own, let alone as part of a group. Moonstone is a tricky opponent, between her intangibility and her mind-games. Spidey's best chance lies with Swordsman (who, although formidable, is the least powerful member of the group) and Songbird, who is the most heroic member of the group and therefore the one least likely to show him some mercy.

Now wait a minute Radioactive Man can drain his powers? Well didn't know that.

This is where I'm getting the idea that the New Avengers are going to show up and kick the Thunderbolts' collective ass with Spidey.

Now wait a minute Radioactive Man can drain his powers? Well didn't know that.

Yep, due to his powers being tied to the radioactive venom in his blood from the original spider bite. He also did something similar to She-Hulk years ago, reverting her back to Jen Walters.

This is where I'm getting the idea that the New Avengers are going to show up and kick the Thunderbolts' collective ass with Spidey.

Hopefully it works out better for them than it did last time--the last time the New Avengers faced off with the T-Bolts, the Avengers lost badly. Of course, the T-Bolts had pre-planned the fight very carefully, so it wasn't a fair fight at all. And this time around, both teams would have different rosters--so who knows what would happen this time around?

Man it looks like New Ways to Die is going to go out in style, what Norman did to Swordsman is probably going to be small potatoes compared to what he'll do if he gets his hands on Spidey :D .

And I'm glad we finally get something interesting done with that particular character I hope he/she will return soon.

Plus that's pretty logical what Joe Kelly is going to do with Hammerhead since Kingpin is gone.

I know.

I have a stupid question: is every issue going to cost 3.99?

Dan Slott
08-17-2008, 10:43 AM
ASM #568 is $3.99, but the lead story is 28 pages long and it also contains a great back-up story that's written by Mark Waid and digitally painted by Adi Granov!

So for an extra $1 you get 6 extra pages of John Romita Jr. AND 10 extra pages by Waid and Granov! Not bad, right?

ASM #569 is back to 22pgs. for $2.99.
Also, #570 gives you 2 extra pages-- and is still $2.99.
Both #571 and #572 each give you an extra page-- and they're still $2.99.

The final chapter, #573, however, will be over-sized with more pages, and Marvel.Com has that listed at $3.99.

At the end of the day, with all the extra pages (and the Mark and Adi back-up), even though this is a 6 issue arc, you'll be getting 6 issues PLUS 26 extra pages of story! That's over 7 issues worth of comic-y goodness! (And in the end, that "phantom issue", only cost you $2. An extra comic's worth for $2? Pretty cool!) :)

Slewo.O
08-17-2008, 06:19 PM
I have it on subscription so I don't need to worry about paying extra. :p

I can also confirm the first part of Dan's words paying an extra dollar is not even a steal of a price for the backup story you're getting along with the extra pages.

HI, saw the preview and it must be me but I actually feel bad for Spidey going up against Bullseye. I think he might regret it or Spidey may just lay the smack down on him. Lets hope for a good clean fight (yeah right)

Anyone know why there's a 1-month gap between 572 and 573? Are they having trouble keeping up with the schedule? (Not complaining... I'm impressed they've gone this long with so few hitches.)

I'm a little confused on this one...

If Venom can sense his old host, and Radioactive Man can pick up radioactive blood, how come they didn't "make" Peter Parker?

Trying to make something out of it?

Trying to make something out of it?

Well, I suppose you could say that. I love Dan's work, but this part took me aback. Being that I've got 3 She-Hulk Trades, and I've been collected Dan's Spider-Man stuff since he's been writing it, I want to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

That, and I will admit, I'm not all that familiar with a lot of Spider-Man lore, I only really picking up Slott's Spider-Man stuff. So I'm hoping that someone with some more Spidey knowledge can explain this part to me.

I've managed to travel from the future and post this news item-ASM #573 HAS SOLD OUT!

Ok so it's a little early for any sales announcments, but NWTD is 5 for 6 and this little news item for the last issue has pretty much guaranteed it will be a hit. In case you haven't heard-Colbert and Spidey team-up

What else can they do for the issue besides smother it in chocolate ;)

I think it's pretty safe to say NWTD will be 6 for 6 on the sold out issues. Speaking of which, congrats to Dan, JRJR, Klaus, Dean, Steve, Brennan, and the rest for the August Sales.

Venom couldn't sense spiderman because of the same thing that made him forget his true identity as for Radioactive Man I'd assume the same reason.

Is it too late to request that the Mac Gargan Venom reform his scorpion tail out of his symbiote?

Well, gosh.

By the way, note to Marvel, next time you do a super-awesome storyline like this, don't release so damn much preview material in advance! I think I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't know what was coming. Maybe I should have just kept my head under...

Yes. But I'm looking at the issue right here. It's written as the G.W.
(I know this is always going to be one of the all-time great Spidey debates). ;)
