i love the adaptation/variation of the Black Queen pose--totally in keeping with the character, too. If there are to be further variants, please make an X-Factor version!

Bravo, Mark!

Looks great!! Makes me twice as excited to see the Jim Lee version of Jean which I hope we can see soon!!

My only suggestion would be an additional base (x-men style) so she can display with the other X-men better (namely retro Cyclops)

Man, it all works! The far-out clothes and that "I'm dancing on a raised podium while wearing day-glo body paint that possibly says something like 'Make love, not war' on my skin" pose all comes together in a beautiful Jean Grey smorgasbord! Well done, sir. Well done.

I almost hate to point this out because it seems trivial, but the buckle is the wrong shape and the belt should be thicker

She looks like she's admiring her diamond ring :) is this meant to be a museum pose?

Mark is the master of the female form great sculpt but not to keen on the pose might grown on me over time.

the anatomy is really killer, MN's a fantastic sculptor. (i hope the gloves & boots aren't done too shiny!) love the kooky mask & bubble-hair. this piece is mine for sure--bring on the X-Factor & Jim Lee models! I think Jean is the one Marvel woman who'd warrant as many statues as Wolverine--esp since they're such different looks. And they'd fit into numerous displays, as someone's pointed out.

I like the base the way it is. Simple and elegant. I actually dislike those standard flat x-bases, they look cheesy. The current base makes it look more like a museum piece.

And Polaris too :)

one of the early sketches for Black Queen--the floating one w/ the billowing cape--would make a fab Polaris statue, as many others pointed out at the time. i still say her half-Magneto/half-wedding dress look from her meltdown was Lorna at her loony best!

ABSOLUTELY!

i hope I Hope I HOPE there's an X-Factor variant. Given the nearly-unanimous praise for this statue I don't think you'd have a problem selling 4 variants. And if there's a single dame from the MU who warrants 4 versions, IT'S JEAN!

If we do see an X-Factor variant, Jean Grey may be the first statue I buy 2 of, this Marvel Girl & the red suit! Let the kids enjoy Jim Lee!

Well , some of those "kids" was 18-20 on 90's so ...how old do you think we are now?
Anyway i'm happy to stay as a kid yet, there's always time to get an oldman 8-)

fair enough. i started reading comics i guess when i was about 10, since i was born in '77 & have a real fondness for the late 80s books. I've heard lots of people support the "Jim Lee" look because those were the costumes in the CARTOON:roll:, rather than from the actual, original books. I guess I assumed (wrongly, it would seem) that a Saturday morning cartoon wouldn't hook a lot of adults who'd never read the X-Men comics.

I've got NOTHING against Jim Lee, his art, or Jean's costume (except the dumb pockets), but with SO MANY fans of that look & relatively few for the X-Factor years, i wanted to make sure i planted the flag when/where i could. I'm sure that if BD makes either modern variant, it'll look amazing & become a crown jewel in collectors' 80s or 90s displays.

Score!!! This is awesome too!...Mark's mastery of the female character is incredible!...Medusa, Black Queen, Marvel Girl...IMO the gritty, powerful, punchy poses are best left for the Hulks, Spideys, Bats, Sups, etc's of the world...loooooooooove the elegant but strong looks he's brought to these women...the way he captures them is remarkable.

I agree, the over busy generic x-bases on some of the statues take away from the sculpt.
Not all the Avengers have the same exact base, neither should the X-Men.

This base is great.

CaptainHardwood
05-08-2008, 09:57 PM
Agreed as well. NOT havng the "same 'ol same 'ol" keeps this (and potentially other X-characters) more unique and doesn't just lump 'em all together and scream (unnecessarily) "I'm part of the X-Men". I kinda like the base as it is now - simple so it doesn't take away from the attractiveness of the character. Might be nice to have two bases, like how some of the recent FS's have come with - though for me, I'll probably use the one pictured.

JonoJarrett

maybe it'll emulate the Wolverine museum statue & come w/ 2 bases, this classic look & the "metallic" X-base?

MKS
05-09-2008, 06:04 AM
Something seems just a bit off about the chest - particularly in the upper left corner pic of the previews. The chest seem a little low and maybe a bit too far out. Not a major complaint, but something about it bugs me.

Good idea, but if it had to be 1, the base shown is much better.

I'm sure this question has been beat to death already but are we looking at multiple Jean Grey statues running through the X-Men's history, or is this the first of a new line of original X-Men FS statues from the Neal Adams era.

I'm hoping for the later but if your going to do a line of statues representing different periods of X-Men lore then Jean Grey is certainly the character to do it with.

I don't think so, more like a multiple version character , as Wolvie..Cyclops...Beast...

[QUOTE]So does thi smean the other X-men of that era are next? And what era will that be exacly the Neil Adams era?/QUOTE]

I'm not so sure that Neal Adams actually came up with this version of the costume I just remember they where wearing them while he was doing the art on the X-Men during his short stint at Marvel. So I think of him when I see these costumes.
