Ouch, that sucks. But it's better than no TV at all, I guess. :)

It killed our fun. It had these blue wavies for the past 2 years that we just got used to, but now it won't power on. :(

Stay away from the Philips! It was only 6 years old.

In that case, I can't wait to plunk down another 1500 for the next couple of years! If only the new tvs ran on gasoline!

Were you with it when it passed?

Or did it die while you were in Dallas, all alone, no one to comfort it as it passed from prime time...

What is that supposed to mean? It's ok, I watch all my tv off of the internet on my 21 inch laptop. :)

It died the day before I left. My family was here to see the baby so I think my parents or my brother gave it help in it's suicide. It at 10:30 in the morning when I went to see Iron Man. totally worth it!

What's the problem? It looks like the Orion model is *clearly* larger.

I don't know. My wife is now staying at home for the next year so we are on a smaller budget. But we love to watch movies and not go to the theater, so I am pretty torn. I might settle on a cheaper 30-something inch to replace it. Supajoe had a 30-something and I was pretty cool with that. This one was a 55 inch. :(

It's gonna be tough to go from 55" to anything smaller, I'd wager, but I know how it is to be on a budget with a new baby. Everyone on the board should get together and donate some loot for you to get a new tv.

My parents still have a tv that they bought in 1985 and it's just started going wonky. And my condolences to you and your family. I hope your televisions killers are brought to justice.

I have 19" Panasonic TV/VCR combo that is now in our bedroom that I bought when I moved out of my parents house in 1998. I've never had a TV last as long as this one has.

 While that is a novel idea, I am ok. I wouldn't turn down comics though. ;)

Does the vcr still work? If so, amazing.

Yep still works. Course about all we have left on tape is some . . . ahem . . . movies for the wife and I. :)

Best purchase I ever made. Well besides my Sony reciever, tape deck and equalizer that I bought in like 1996 that still work. Had to buy two CD players though, and still need to purchase one from the last one that broke.

That's probably a good thing, you had a lamp and a whole shelf of stuff in front of your TV before.

I have two 62 inch televisions right next to each other as my setup.

One for when we want to watch tv/movies, one for games.

I'm still using a 23" TV my parents bought brand new in 1985. Still works like it was brand new, and it's even had a powerful magnet next to the screen. It went all weird-colored and askew when it was next to it and went back to normal a day later. Nothing wrong.

Hitachi: Built to fucking last.
