Hi, Bachman here, your lovable, evil, conservative banker. Here's a free tip:
If you have a bill due on the 30th, and you pay it via online banking on the
29th, you're going to be late. Don't try to blame the bank for your laziness or stupidity. Online Bill Pay can take 3-5 business days depending on the company (whether or not they are set up to accept electronic payment)
Also, stop writing checks at point-of-sale places. Get a checkcard. I know I know, it means you'll actually have to have money in your bank account if you want to buy something... how ridiculous.
Don't like it? Go live in Sweden.

Wait... you're saying that if I don't have money for it I shouldn't write a check for it?
I'm not following that at all.

I know, it's crazy talk.
Or if you don't have the funds in your checking account and you want to use a credit card, make sure you have the available credit and are current on payments. But if you're not, just call and yell at the credit card company, because nothing's ever your fault.

Fuck that. If I pay a bill online, there's no reason in the world it shouldn't be instantly credited. I'll bitch until you relent and erase the fee.
Don't test me.

If I sent a check by a certain date, and it arrived late, but was postmarked before the date, most companies will not count it as late, because the postal service is inconsistent. So why should the internet be different?

I feel your pain. I got out of banking several years ago and have not looked back.
I can just imagine the day you had to prompt you to post this considering how many complaints you probably get on a daily basis.
Stay strong.

Directly in front of every stand up hack who's ever been waiting in line at a store apparently?
What's the deal with checks? It's like a little piece of paper that's supposed to be money? How does that work? Can I just write one billion dollars on a scrap of paper and call that a check?

Why a giftcard? It's just like cash, but only usable at one place. Why would you give me something that's just like cash but not as good? Why not just give me cash?

I completely and utterly hate checks. They're very outdated now. The actually don't even exist in Korea anymore. You pay everything by wire transfer, debit or credit card, or cash here, and I much prefer that system.

Feh! I still pay 2/3rds of my bills via checks I mail in. I'm OLD! I don't even have a check card. Just a real credit card, like every Red-Blooded American should!

It's not a good level of thought, though. "I think you like this store, but it's too much time for me to look through it for a specific item, so here's a gift card and you can do the work yourself, but only at this one place I think you like." I'll take the cash, thanks.
Also, why do people call them check cards instead of debit cards? Is it to ease the transition for old farts by still using the word "check"?

I still use paper checks and I'm 21. I just use checks for bills and for groceries and gas and things like that I pay with cash. Actually seeing the cash go out of my wallet usually curbs my spending habits.

But money can show a lack of care. A gift card is someone saying they don't know exactly what you want, but they want you to get something from there.
I personally don't do gift cards, but it seems a good level of thought to me.

My friend writes bad checks at the bar all the time. Hoping he will get his unemployment check deposited before the checks clear.
True story...etc.
