It looks very juvenile. Is it a kiddie show? I must admit that Sarah Jane was never one of my favorite companions anyway, even back in the day, but she was very good in the recent Dr. Who, and I've always been fond of K9. (Is he in it?)
Anyway, our friends on the other side of the pond... what's the what on this show?

Its a kid's show--I havent seen the rest of it, but the pilot was great (and miles beyond the other Who Spinoff).

Yeah, Doctor Who was positioned as an all ages show. Torchwood is the more adult geared show, and SJA was set as the younger audience show.
I have seen the first season so far, and for all that it is targeted at a younger audience I really enjoyed it.
K-9 was in the pilot, but due to some rights issues could not be in the rest of the season (mostly).

I've watched it and I don't like it.
I'm a fan of the good ol' Doctor and Torchwood, for sure. But, I'll pass on Sarah Jane.

Just the pilot?
It honestly gets a lot better a little later on... Still that being said, it really is not for everyone.

It airs regularly on the BBCKids channel that I have on my dish at home, so I've been watching it.

Ah gotcha. Well, at least you gave it a fair chance.
I thought it was cute, but yeah, Doctor Who and Torchwood are the stronger brands

I tried. I'll stick with the other two.

Tried it, not a fan.
They were (still are?) going to do an animated K-9 series, so the rights have been tied up.

I really enjoy it.
Largely because they have managed to get get a few properly good child actors who actually give some of it nice emotional weight. Also, it doesn't just fall into the sink of cuteness as most kids TV does.

I seem to remember reading that they finished shooting the live action segments around the end of last year (its a live action/animation mix show) and are now being all computer animatey aiming for broadcast late this year. Which has always been the plan, it just seems to have disappeared because they announced so long a long but always with this year as the intended broadcast date ISTR.
