This reminds me of that scene towards the end of Return of the Jedi, when Vader turns on the Emperor and throws him away into that never ending hole…

This married couple comes to the front desk to check out, and when they were given the total for their stay, the wife goes nuts on my front desk clerk. She complains about how she never got any sleep the night before, and she shouldn’t be paying for last night.

She was asked why she wasn’t able to sleep, and she tells the clerk that there was a baby next door that was loud and it cost them a lot of sleep.

The clerk does what she’s supposed to do, and asks her if she had called the desk about it last night. The guest said no. The clerk mentions that she should’ve complained last night, so that we could’ve done something about it and helped them out. She says nothing, she just wants her stay comped. Since there was no record of any problems last night, all the clerk can do was adjust $50 off her nightly rate for the inconvenience.

She rejects the offer. And she continues to bitch about things. At this point, the husband interjects, and tells the clerk that it was a generous offer, and completely unnecessary.

The wife tells the husband to shut up and let her do the talking. She continues to berate my front desk agent, and then me for trying to calm her down. It got so bad other guests start leaving.

The husband gets pissed.

He yells at her, tells her that she’s embarrassing to take to take outside of the house, that she’s such a liar and a cheapskate, and that she treats people like trash.

He walks out, telling the clerk to put the charge in his credit card…and gets in his car, leaving his wife.

The wife walks out shortly after. She’s still waiting by the taxi waiting area, hoping her husband comes back.

I look at the bill and I notice that it's an employee rate from a sister hotel. Less than a hundred per night.

Man...how cheap can you be?

Rad. I love watching couples fight in public.

I saw a good one at Safeway last week. The girl ran up to some dude and started talking to him with that "ohmigawd I haven't seen you in forever" rap and it ended with them hugging and exchanging numbers.

Then the girl goes back to her boyfriend who's waiting not at all patiently and looking more than a little perturbed.

Her: "Sweetie, I told you to come over with me."
Him: "No it's ok, I have plenty of exes I can call up..."

And then he stalks off with her trailing behind saying "Come on... Don't be like that."

I crossed paths with them a couple more times as I finished my shopping and they were NOT having a good time. Him power walking around the store snatching stuff off the shelves and throwing it into the cart, her scrambling to keep up and trying to make her case. Both of them staring holes through each other the whole time.

Good stuff.

Some people try to make a game of always complaining, and trying to see if they can get something of value out of it. Sort of a silly way to live your life, and it seems the husband is sick of her game, too.

Yep. Some people are never happy unless they're squeezing a nickel out of someone and/or making other people miserable.

I just picture this guy, holding it in all these years, just to lose it and let her have it at that moment. It's a turning point in his life. He'll go back to his job and demand that raise and promotion. He'll go off on the neighbor who lets his dog crap on his lawn.

And that trucker that beat him up in the diner in the middle of nowhere...well he's in for a big surprise.

Is she still waiting?

Good for him, and serious probs for the receptionist for keeping her cool the whole time.

Ah memories. I was working as a manager at a local Chuck E Cheese (yes I admitted that), and this couple comes in. The woman smells as though she had a drink or two, and within moments she is yelling at the husband/boyfriend. About half an hour later they are arguing some more, and she grabs his hair and just yanks out a handful. Well apparently he had enough of that and goes outside and sits in the car. She follows him, and you see her lean into the driver side window and just start throwing punches. After about 30 seconds of this he just up and drives off leaving her and the kids. She comes back in and starts in about how he's a jerk and she doesn't need this. I told her we'd call her a cab she starts yelling at me. Called the cops and they waited outside with her until a taxi showed up. Ah the fun of watching crappy parents.
