I saw Grumpy mention how excited he was to get #9 of 500 of the Ultron Chrome. Does the number of the piece mean much? Why? Let's chat.

I'll go with "It's a perk." Here's how it breaks down for me:
The number doesn't really matter (except in cases where I later decide to resell the item). But to me it doesn't matter. When I get a new statue, I check to see what number I got, and I get a special thrill if I get a low or significant number. But once it's on display, I'll never see the number, so I don't really care. I'm still getting the same enjoyment out of the statue.
Now, if I'm shopping for a statue, and I have a choice between two numbers at the same price and one's a "desirable" number, I'll take that one. At my LCS, if they get in multiple copies of a statue, I'll always ask what numbers they got, but unless there's something special about one of the numbers, I'll always take the one that was handed to me.

Yes, I collect only hyper low and signed pieces. I like to give a special thing to my collection.

If #9 is identical to #90 and #900 ???

Perk - I have lots of low numbers (generally 200 or lower) and I have a few higher numbers (Mr. Monster 999 of 1000). And to tell you the truth...I dont think the lower numbers look any different than the higher numbers.
Or is that just me...plus, my Ghost Rider doesnt glow in the dark :(

Really? How do you ensure that?
I've got some low numbers, sometimes I think it'd be cool to get the very last one.
My LCS usually picks the number he likes and I'll take the other, but I will open them up and inspect to see if one looks better than the other.

Not to me, it only really counts in comics or if you're lucky enough to get #1 or an artist proof. Otherwise it's piece itself that's important.
Some folks may get more "after market" sales for low #'s but I think it's the buyers choice to believe it's worth more or not.

It's a perk if you get a low # from BD but I wouldn't shell out extra $$$ for a low # piece on the bay!!!
They all look the same to me from AP to #1468.

It's just a perk to me. A high number doesn't bum me out but a low number makes me smile. :)

I would have to say yes also the new pulls(lower #) from the molds carry more details I don't know who many pulls they pull from the molds before they are destroyed but the higher the # they start to lose detail but then you getting the bragging rights "I got a lower # then you ;)

If you're in the single digits, that's pretty good. Other than that...........eh..........whatever.

It does to me...I just enjoy the lower numbers from a collector standpoint...something about owning a #50 instead of #1500 that's more desirable to me...don't know why, just personal perference I suppose...the other reason is in hopes that the piece will be better quality. I don't know that there's any truth to this really, or that they even number them in the order they were produced....nonetheless, last year I sold my Logan #1200 and bought a Logan #37 and found the detail/quality to be night and day difference...the 37 being flawless...may or may not have been any result of the lower number, may just be luck, but has reinforced my behavoir to seek out the low numbers.

Someone mentioned that they are not numbered in order of production so detail of molds does not come into the mix but of course I no nothing. For me the number is a fun thing - if I get a number that is low or relates to some other number that I have it gives me a something for a millisec. But for buying specifically only if a cool number is the same price.

You are assuming that they pull and paint and number in succession, which is highly unlikely. #23 might be next to #1458 getting painted. You never know what goes on in those factories.
It's no doubt that the low numbers command higher prices on the secondary market. It's more a "mind thing" than anything else. Personally, I like to look over the paint job. If #14 looks crappy but #2999 looks great, I'm taking the one that looks great, number be damned. You can't see the # when it's sitting on your shelf.

Randy has said that the number does not correspond to the order in which it is produced. It is all random. That said, there is no link between low #s and better quality pieces.
As far as I'm concerned, a low # is a perk, just a kind of 'Hey, Neat. A low number.' kind of thing...

I could care less to be quite honest. I rarely if ever check what # I got. As long as it looks good and doesn't have any flaws it could be #5 or #675 for all I care.
I can see why it matters to people but I don't buy statues for those reasons.

as long as the statue is mint I don't care,I'd rather have #600/600 mint rather than 1/600 with paint flaws.
perk,..I never even look at the numbers

To me - it's just a number, it's the piece that really matters - as long as it matches the number on the carton - I don't mind what it is.

It just gives people something to yak about, since these pieces aren't numbered in production order anyway.

The # doesn't matter at all, unless it's 1 of....
For some weird reason it strokes the ego ("Wow! I got FS Namor #10!"), but it really is meaningless when it comes down to it.

Don't care about the number of the piece, just the paint apps and the condition.

Hey dEnny, thanks for starting this thread. For me the numbers are a definate perk. I know the number has absolutely nothing to do with when the item was produced and it's just a number but it is a number given to a limited number of peices available to the market, right? This concept is not limited to busts and statues but is used on limited edition prints and numerous other collectibles. Those of us here who collect Bowen are "collectors". And if anybody knows anything about collectors, we are a different breed from normal folks! One very interesting angle on this hobby that caused me to go "WOW!" was when I heard of one guy who tries to find pieces whose number corresponds with the number of the comic they first appeared in! How he does that blows my mind but he, apparently, has quite a few.
Here are two examples I own that are interesting numbers. I own the Doc Strange mb#13 and the original Daredevil bust #31. Eh, I know those numbers don't mean anything to most people but I've always thought of the number 13 as "mystical" and the number 31 is that last day of October which is Halloween . . . which is associated with witches and devils. Stupid I know, but it's meaningful to me and that's what counts, right?
As for my Ultron #9, I only wish it were #5! I believe Bowen's Ultron represents the fifth incarnation of Ultron? Wouldn't Ultron 5, #5, be cool?

A low number does stand out to me, but I think that's due to when I began buying always having middle of the road to high numbers. A part of me thinks, if I get a high number, I want the last one. :)
I do notice if it's a number I like and to mess with my LCS I'll act like I care...I really don't. Nowadays just want to make sure I get mines!

I have some low and some high, because they are what I came upon at the moment of purchase. I care about the piece, not the number. My friend and I both have the FS Red Skull and we've set them side by side and can't see a difference. What counts here is the character and the sculpt -- Nuff Said!

Not usually but I have to admit, when I got my action classic Wolverine the other day and noticed it was a low number (19), I got kinda excited about it. It's pretty silly but there you go..

It reallly doesn't matter to me, BUT, when I get a NEW piece in I look right at the bottom of the box, see it doesn't really matter.
Then I check to see if the piece # and the Box # match, as alway's.
EVERY piece I've ever received from BD has been perfect and #'s matched, and I've got alot of them.
I think it is just a perk. They all look the same in the end but it's kind of cool when I get a new mb/fs and it is a really low #
