It's a great statue, but it's a little crude in comparison to what Randy is putting out nowadays. You can really tell how far he's come as a sculptor between then and now. I believe this came out in the 90's?

I'd LOVE to see what he can come up with for a NEW Hellboy FS!

Congrats and Happy Birthday!
I'm still kicking myself for selling mine years ago. One of these days I'm aiming to get another one.

CRUDE? fair enough.... i thought he captured mignola's art perfectly. This is one of my grails. If its crude the only reason being is mignola's art is crude... have i said "crude" enough? :mistrust: haha but if he does make another Hellboy as good as this (or better, hopefully) than i will be a very happy camper!

By the way im new here so hello fellow Bowen fans! :)

Congrats! I've been collecting Bowen for a long time and I can't honestly say I've ever seen this statue! Do you mind sharing how much you paid? What production number did you get? Man, it looks awesome! The only Hellboy piece I own is Bowen's museum pose bust and I love it.

As for birthdays, I just received my present as well! I bought myself the chrome version of the Ultron bust. I can't believe my good fortune to have acquired #9 of 500!

You latched on to only one word in my post instead of reading the whole thing. No biggie. Let me clarify. Randy has grown as an artist and sculptor and I can see where he would tighten up the sculpt in a few spots. Mostly in the detail work, the coat, etc.

Also, Mignola's work is not crude. If you study it, it's VERY tight. Every line and shadow has a purpose and a reason for being there. There are absolutely NO unnecessary lines anywhere. That's what makes it's simplicity so deceptive.

Make no mistake. I'm still a huge fan of this piece. I just wish to see a new Hellboy FS sometime in the future. Preferably the NEAR future!

Thanks, RH. Very interesting. I remember one detail on the bust I own from Bowen, There is a very visible thumb or finger print actually worked into the bust itself. I don't find this crude, as someone else mentioned about another piece, but I really like seeing it as part of the sculpt. Anybody else have a finger print?
