I'm extremely busy, so I'll just POST what I did over at the Statue Forum. If you want more details (pics, dates, articles) feel free to contact me.

Well Randy, without reading beyond this 1st POST, I'm guessing Disney. Which I was going to start a THREAD over at Jinxworld about Disney, Marvel "no smoking" policy, and the issue with Howard the Duck.

So I'll ask away here, and start a THREAD when I have more time over there.

Disney, or any animated characters. I'd personally like like to see your versions. Yet, I wouldn't buy many pieces.

Disney, for example. Goliath/gargoyle I would buy any scale with a reasonable corresponding price. The same is true for Pluto (Shawna's favorite Disney character, btw Taz is her favorite WB character). I would buy a few Disney Prinesses for my nieces for under $100, if the quality is equal to the price. More Disney pieces if the price is lower.

Now, what's up with this "no smoking" policy from Marvel? I don't have time to wade through a punch of speculations, and (to my knowledge, you haven't said exactly why) trying to find something you might have said about it.

I know that in 1994 a 7yr old complained to Marvel about the Marvel Masterpieces card set having 5 characters smoking. Marvel Entertainment responed saying smoking will no longer be on any cards. Yet, there have been several "sketch cards" over the past 10 years, which include Howard the Duck without his name anywhere on the card. And at some point, Joe Q said no more smoking after his father died of lung problems from smoking. Yet, we're seeing sketch cards, Howard the Duck statue, and I noticed brand new Greg Horn piece with Nick Fury smoking.

So what's up with your license now? Did some nubus in the license department find an old archive stipulation about smoking, and is taking it upon themselves to apply it to you? Yet no other company or division of Marvel Entertainment seems to be held to these guidelines.

I've mentioned Howard the Duck several times now. Pieces without his name, pieces with him smoking. What gives? Did you see my suggestions over on Jinxworld about Howard?

Randy, just wondering if you get the Disney license, will that help or hurt the chances of getting Howard the Duck done?:Ponder:

I think the smoking thing is decided on a case by case basis by "the powers that be " ...

I have read the Joe Q said that it is okay for the them to have a character smoke as long as it is shown in a negative light... For example if someone is smoking they have to be coughing up a lung...

All this sounds like shit to me.Hypocrits and brainless moralist ...who care's if Thing or Wolvie are smoking ?? They are just comic fictional characters!! The THing is a Stone Guy!!what about if he want to smoke?? I'm wondering...if someday J. Quesadas's mother die (hope not) while she's carrying a cape.. ,no more superhero's with cape will showed ??
Bah...it's just stupid, and only stupids can carry about a 12 " statue who's taking a cigarette while entire countries are being attacked ,imprissioned, aniquilatted , etc.... :surrend:

I don't see this as being a big deal at all. Not in the least. If Marvel wants to be careful about which characters and properties depict tobacco use, that is entirely their right. I'm not losing any sleep over this, and I don't know why anyone else would either.

Maybe to CTA (cover their a$$e$) Marvel big shots could have their employees that calculate "trend influences on profits" include a card with the statues (of smokers) that says-

This character does not inhale.
This character only smokes in designated areas
This character limits himself to 1 cigar a week
This character blah blah whatever

Is that enough silliness to CTA? But maybe they really are in earnest and donate whatever to cancer cures/research. If so I apologize for my cynicism.

The truth is that smoking is becoming less and less accepted in society because people are finally realizing there are zero health benefits to it. That's a real issue. Whether or not Nick Fury is drawn (or sculpted) with a cigar in his mouth doesn't matter to me.

Or that your post is this random collection of thoughts that seem to rely on previous knowledge of your views on the subject. ;)

I have already addressed this question at the statue forum. HTD is not on our current license. I was told that there was no smoking on any any item. Later (after the license deal was done) I was told that it would depend on the character. There seems to be no set rule. It depends more on (when and) who is being asked at Marvel.
Howard the Duck is not on our current list.

Nothing like knowing exactly what they want! Must make your work so much easier!

Their inability to decide is hugely incompetent and strikes me as weak.
Perhaps D Trump should be wandering through Marvel halls screaming through doorways "YOU'RE FIRED, YOU'RE FIRED!"

whatever it takes

So is there any chance that we may see a Cantu's original Wolverine FS released with the cigar?!?!?

Thanks Randy. Didn't see your info on HTD. Obviously I wouldn't have been asking if I did. That's too bad. So is the so called no smoking policy.

Maybe I'll take this up with someone I know high up at Marvel.
