Dewey Cox....we watched it twice at WWLA on the pay per view cable box. It's fucking awesome.

For Christmas, the people want Cox.

I actually didn't like Walk Hard as much as I thought I would. I thought John C. Reilly was great and Dewey Cox was a great character, but the script just wasn't as funny as the better Apatow vehicles were.

I thought this was going to be about Dr. Perry Cox from Scrubs. :(

Or at the very least a poorly spelt coming out revelation for Mr. Van Sciver.

I want to see this movie, I'll have to buy it when it comes out on DVD. None of my friends thought it looked funny for some bizarre reason.

Love this movie. Love the soundtrack just as much.

I thought it was pretty good, but would have been even better if they took out the ill-conceived nude & gross-out scenes. It seemed like they threw in a couple of scenes to appeal to a particular audience because when they were originally done making the film they noticed they had something with real heart and humor but no gross-out factor, which is what the "kids" dig these days.

I love that Lil Nuttzzakk video. It kills me. The man's life work, the song Dewey wrote about his life's struggle excerpted and sampled to make it seem base and filthy. Hilarious. Some whore singing, "I wanna make you fuckin'" and then footage of Dewey in black and white,"...Hard..."

It's so poignant and funny...I don't know. I think this movie is among Apatow's best.

I found a great deal of the film funny because it was so self-referential. It's like Apatow sat down to make a film for his friends and just checked each one off as he came to him. Jonah Hill was hilarious, because even though you're watching him in character, it's Jonah Hill thrown into Walk Hard. It's like he walked onto the set, did his thing, and left.

It was so over the top with the actors it was great.

I really loved this. The soundtrack is great, too, and the iTunes version has some must-have bonus songs.

Harold Ramis was great too.

We've both agreed that I'm awesome. Do you have the soundtrack? ITunes has a giant version, with every little scrap of music from the film, complete. "Dear Mr. President" is genius. And "Dewey Cox Died" is amazing. I love the bit where Dewey's falsetto voice is layered as it laments, "No! Say it isn't so! Dewey Cox died!" Kills me every time. :)

I told my parents and my girlfriend I want that played at my funeral. No joke.

IT's the line, 'god himself asks why' that gets me.

Does this mean it's time for me to get new friends?

I think you must be a big music history fan, and then also have seen Walk The Line. If this doesn't describe you or your friends, WALK HARD won't be funny to you.

The Brian Wilson sequence was what really got me, for some reason.

That's pretty much me.
But my other friends seemed to either not get the jokes or thought it was just too over the top in terms of content. I never saw it due to their opinions.

That made me so happy. John C Reilly even managed to mimic the thing Brian used to do with his fingers when he was thinking about his music. And by the way, Brian's collaborator on SMILE, Van Dyke Parks, co-wrote the song Dewey is recording there, "Black Sheep". So it's even funnier. :)

This movie should've been a big ol' hit. It's hilarious. For some reason, the scene where ... should I hide this?... Tim Meadow's character's baby is born, and either it's shaking like crazy or he's shaking it like crazy... It made me laugh. It still makes me laugh. I'm not sure why.

Like all Apatow-related movie ventures, it seems like it's 10 - 20 minutes longer than it should be, but it's pretty damn good.

It's different on DVD... It just seems like with a lot of Apatow directed or produced movies, I'm wishing they'd be a little tighter with the editing. I still like most of his movies, though, and especially Walk Hard. Did you see the very last thing after the credits? (If it's mentioned in this thread, I will feel lame.) It was so weird and glorious yet subtle.

That's an injoke. When they were making Knocked up they originally had a fake baby that they had to shake to make it look alive. They all realized how creepy it was and changed to a real one. Walk Hard took the creepy baby and made a joke out of it.

Being a music buff/trivia junkie, there were scenes where I lost it, such as the scene with The Beatles or the part where Dewey went crazy like Brian Wilson. That part was spot on. Complete with the beard, trampoline jumping, and overdubbing the fuck out of every damn song.

Also the Bob Dylan parody accurately summed up the Dylan of '66

Also the horrible variety shows of the 70's. Dewey sings Star Man!

YES!
I was so happy when he sang Star Man, because it's probably my fave track from Ziggy Stardust, either that or Rock 'N' Roll Suicide.
Come to think of it, reminds me of the scene in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, where Dr. Gonzo and Raoul Duke go to the Debbie Reynolds show and she's performing a godawful big band version of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Ha ha! I had no idea... Actually, I liked that it made no sense to me, but I also like the reason behind it. Ah, comedy.
