So Duke better win this.

It's not as confusing as the Tournament featuring both St. Mary's and Mount St. Mary's. Fortunately, both of those teams were eliminated in the first round.

It's not as confusing as the Tournament featuring both St. Mary's and Mount St. Mary's. Fortunately, both of those teams were eliminated in the first round.I remember at least one year where Georgia, Georgetown, George Washington, and Georgia Tech were all in; maybe there was even another Gerog in there somewhere.

I remember when you used to have to fill out the brackets by hand. I would start using abbreviation, then all of the sudden I realized that there were two O.S.U.s. The year where South Carolina was a two seed and Southern Cal was a three or a four and both go knocked out on the same day in the first round was a source of some amusement.

I mentioned in another thread that there is a Saint Mary's and a Mount Saint Mary's in California. The Mount does not have basketball.

Even ignoring the CBI snub, that's still not true. Some conferences don't have a conference tournament or don't have spots in the conference tournament for all the teams. So a team could theoretically have lost 27 games and win their last regular season game. They wouldn't play in any tournaments and would still finish the season with a win.

This is the fourth straight NCAA Tournament where Duke "ran out of gas" after looking like a contender for most of the regular season. I don't see how thigns are going to be so much different next year.

Oh, come on. The past two years haven't been good for them, I'll give you that, but, the two seasons before that were Sweet Sixteen years (and the year before that was a Final Four).

Every teams hits their rough stretches. They have a good young group of players, I don't see this as anything permanent.

Of course, I'm all for anything that gives my X a better shot at the final four.

A team the relies heavily on three point shooting (and help from the refs) is never going to have any easy time making it through the NCAA Tournament. And unless Zoubek figures out how to play basketball during the off season, I don't see Duke drastically changing the style of game they play.

I only see two genuinely lackluster years, after a few very good years. It all goes in cycles, for every team.

And I don't really care how the grads do in the NBA... that seems to me like an indicator of nothing I care about. Plenty of teams go far with no future NBA stars.

I'm not a Duke fan, and again, I'm actually pretty psyched about the POSSIBILITY of us playing against Huggie-fuck again. But I don't see them as going on any kind of long term downward spiral.

The best Duke team had an All-Star (Grant Hill), a guy who played several years in the NBA (Laetner, who was a superb college athlete) and Hurley, who would have had a pro career if he hadn't wrecked his car.

They won a title with Battier, who's got a nice pro career going, and Jason Williams, a great college player who had a bright NBA future.

Granted, UNC and UCLA produce more NBA talent, but Duke doesn't do too bad.

Right... but by the time some of these freshman are juniors and seniors, things might be comparable.

I'm just saying this permanent downturn you're talking about doesn't seem likely. Before the 2001 team, Duke had a couple of horrible years, one where they didn't even make the tourney if I remember correctly.

Is Kentucky done? They've gone longer without a Final Four, and longer without a Championship.

I just think this stuff is naturally cyclical. I don't see something structurally wrong with Duke.

What did he do?A foul was called on Stanford. He apparently mouthed off and got the first T. Wes Matthews is standing at the line waiting for the ball and the coach comes all the way out to inside the circle with Matthews and stares at the refs. Two of them were standing together, they looked at each other, and one T'd him up again and tossed him.

And then Marquette went on an 11-1 run.

The reaction by the assistant coach was great.

Incidentally, that was the same reaction Quentin Thomas had when Tywon Lawson got taken down in the Florida State game a month or so ago.

Well, West Virginia did beat Duke today, so that makes them probably like one of the four or five best teams to ever play basketball.

Are you serious or kidding?

I never enter my brackets because I always pick X to win. This year, though, I really believe it.

Okay, every year I really believe it, but still... we got a great team this year!

Wow! That's fucking awesome. Warms my heart, that someone who didn't go there or live in Cincy made that pick. Hopefully we don't let you down.

I really do like our chances this year. Drew's an amazing player, and it's a crazy season. Anything can happen.
