Im looking to buy a TV series Ive never seen on DVD because most of the time theres nothing on. Some of the shows I like are Lost, Heroes, Law and Order SVU, Reaper, How I Met your Mother, Scrubs, 30 Rock, Monk, Psych, Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad. Any suggestions on some other show I might dig ?

Mebbe The Shield? It's the bestest cop show ever.

Damages. A legal thriller/murder mystery.
Starring Glenn Close and Ted Danson.
More twists and turns than a maze.
Thirteen surprising episodes, and one surprising bitch of a finale (that is a compliment)
I can't fucking wait for season 2 next year.

Six Feet Under was wonderful.
The Wire is hands down the best written and acted cop show ever.
Nip/Tuck is simply awesome.

Oh, and pick up Band of Brothers for sure. All the intensity and realism of Saving Private Ryan without any contrived schmaltz.

I've got to second The Wire and Damages.
I'd also go along with the first two seasons of Nip/Tuck. After that, it turns to dogshit. Except for the episode where Christian has the fat girl wear a bag over her head while he fucks her. That was good times.

The one drawback to owning The Wire on DVD is the seasons are so fucking expensive. I don't think I've ever seen them for less than $50-$60.
But with a little patience, maybe deals will pop up.
I waited on buying Six Feet Under - another expensive series - and last month I found all the seasons for $19 each. Scooped them bitches up like ice cream.

I concur with the recommendations for Homicide, Venture Brothers, Veronica Mars, the Whedon shows, Dead Like Me, and a few others.
While I agree that The Wire is a must, you might want to just wait for the entire series to come out in a series set. It will most likely be cheaper, might have more features, and will probably take up less shelf room.
If you like The Simpsons and enjoy geek humor, Futurama is a definite buy.
Wonderfalls is a fun show that lasted less than a season, but has a great sense of humor and a fun sense of whimsy.

Damages was really good. I just picked up Battle Star Galactica 2.5, and Season 3 today. If you buy 3 and another at Best Buy you save $25.

I can't believe I neglected to put Wonderfalls on my list. I think I just automatically assume that I reference it in every post somehow.

I'm currently watching The X-Files season 5 and the first season of The Riches and enjoying the heck out of both. As far as stuff I've already seen, my favorites include Veronica Mars, Venture Bros., Supernatural (especially season 2 on. It just keeps getting better), The Office, Angel and MST3K.

The Wire. It may not run with what you listed, but it's the best TV show ever produced to this day and it needs to be seen.

I'm starting to go the all-in-one box set route now, loving them.
I've got Star Trek: Next Generation and Stargate SG-1 in the complete box set now. Also the M.A.S.H. one. Probably going to get Seinfeld next.
They seem expensive but they're cheaper in the long run than buying every season individually and they look great!

My dad got us the DS9 box set recently, for a very good price (considering what Paramount normally charges).
I've also bought the West Wing, Buffy, and Angel box sets (and plan to sell my Buffy and Angel single seasons on ebay). I like them because they're easier to transport between home and college.
