The Associated Press.
DETROIT -- A conservative Christian group has begun a boycott of Ford, claiming the car company "leads the way" in being pro-gay.
The American Family Association said it's targeting the automaker for giving thousands of dollars to gay rights groups, offering benefits to same-sex couples and actively recruiting gay employees.
The group recently gave up a nine-year boycott of Disney over some of the same issues. The campaign did not seem to have much of a financial impact on the company.
At Ford, an executive responded that it respects all of its customers and employees, including those who are gay. Joe Laymon, vice president of human resources, added that competitors also provide benefits for same-sex partners and market their vehicles to the gay community.

I love that they just "gave up" the boycott of Disney. I don't shop at Wal-Mart because I don't like their policies, and I don't want to support them. I'm not going to give up not shopping there just because I don't seem to be having an effect on their financial stability. Nice commitment, AFA!

I've owned three Fords. Every one of them was junk. I don't care what their supposed political stances are, their products are garbage. Don't buy them.

Cheap joke. Yeah. Hell with the AFA. Disney's showing strong numbers. While I think it was Ford I heard about a few weeks ago that got downgraded to Junk Bond status. The Lord Telleth Them To Attack Strategically I guess. Pick your battles an all that... but wait... Ford is by-god american made vehicles! Is the AFA now taking a stance that they're not supporters of American businesses? First they attack what many consider to be the flagship animation and family entertainment company in the United States. Now they attack one of the two primary american car companies. FUCKIN COMMIES!!!!!
In all seriousness, Perhaps the American Family Association should consider the impact their boycotts have on these major employers of american families incomes and livelihoods and weigh that with their singleminded ideological assaults. Apparently, another out of work auto-worker with kids to feed is quite okay, as long as those hungry kids don't have the gay in em. Pfeh... Fools...

This is my feeling too. Good for them for supporting gay rights, but I'm still not going to buy one of their POS cars.

Of course if the Christians that think the fundamentalists in the AFA are not indicative of their faith, embarassing and not with the mainstream, it would be in their interests to keep their own house in order and take down organizations like that. The 'good tolerant turn the other cheek christians' out there endorse the 'bad burn a cross on your lawn and boycott your business in the name of family values christians' with their silence. Logically then, if the good ones of conscience sit by and do nothing, there are no good ones cos they're abetting the bad ones. Therefore the broad brush is entirely justified until the good ones speak up and help the rest of us with the bad ones.

I agree with this sentiment. It's the same problem I think a lot of people have with Muslims that stay quiet in the face of the worst of their own using their religion as an excuse for their terrorism. "Yeah they're assholes, buy hey, what can ya do?" doesn't cut it forever. I'm rapidly getting to that point with the silent majority of centrist Christians.
