That's cool. my company (a publishing house) also uses factories & printers both in Hong Kong & mainland China. This side of the business--of all businesses--may not be as glam as the other side, but it's really interesting in its practical way.

i, too, wondered whether either the earthquake or the Olympics would affect BD's schedule. but i guess since manufacturing is such a HUGE industry in China, they've been planning for this for a while.

Incredible to think that it's more cost-effective to produce the goods so far away & then pay for them to be shipped on a boat for 4 months (at least that's how long it takes our books, usually) across the Pacific Ocean than to manufacture them anywhere nearer.

2) right, i don't think anyone realistically expects answers to every single query in every thread, but the 2 threads i asked about were questions you asked us, so i just wondered what the outcome of those were; disappointment/disgruntlement only come when a query or subject is pointedly disregarded or a topic suddenly dropped;

3) i think so, too; i've never experienced a give-and-take like this over a consumer product. given the insular nature of the collectibles market, i think it's really great & super-savvy, definitely creates a sense of loyalty, belonging, and receptivity.

i get it & i think the majority of us get it that even when there aren't rapid-fire new sneaks or sketches shown, progress is ongoing. You have, though, created or encouraged a ravenous appetite here & on SF for updates & responses, esp when you ask US to weigh in.

thanks for taking the time to answer. it's regrettable that you don't have the leisure to answer our queries to the extent that you used to, but if the choice were between more messages online or more statues like Angel/AA, Jean Grey, DD, etc, i think we'd ALL choose the statues.

Good luck getting an answer to that one, as I have NEVER seen BD release that info, even when an item is posted as "Sold Out" (even when calling and speaking directly to their staff regarding an item that I had on order). Personally, I would think that it wouldn't make sense for ANY company to "lock in" to a production run that early anyway*, as I'm sure they will measure the repsonse (via pre-orders) prior to making a final determination.

*Uh . . . other than companies like Sideshow, which by announcing the "limited" production runs that early in the game (in my opinion) is there way of running up the price on their items

I'm already mentally re-configuring where to display Abom with (preferably with Classic Hulk, as you have pictured - may as well take advantage of the matching base!!) and would like to know whether they will fit together in the particular case I have in mind.

Speaking of which . . . any possibility of noting dimensions (beyond height) of some of the other pieces (FS in particular) when posting them for order on your website. For some of the more "sizeable" pieces, I think this would be very helpful for many of your customers, especially those that buy MANY of your pieces. Thanks for your consideration . . .

I like the Iron Man, but have more "love" for the "classic" look. There was some buzz and pics floatin' around here a couple months back of (what I'll refer to as) a "Layton-based Classic" Iron Man. Will you in fact be producing one (or comparable)??

I'd HATE placing my order (direct with BD, by the way) for the "Modern" Iron Man, only to end up cancelling when I see the "Classic" version. A "head's up" as to your intentions is greatly appreciated . . .

Oh yeah . . . same goes for Black Knight and Bucky FS's. I'm holding off on both (for now) hoping to get a definitive answer on whether either will be produced as an "exclusive" (be it Collector's Club or Website). From what's been written, it sounds pretty certain for Bucky, but haven't seen any definite answer (yea or nay) regarding the possibility of a BK "red cape" variant.

I personally am empathetic to yours and others preference, and though I lobbied for Blue Quicksilver in (my terms) "MUCH darker blue shorts" (Nick Fury and/or Black Bolt in mind), didn't envision BLACK as the outcome - though I am MUCH more than satisfied with the decision relative to the "slightly darker shorts".

If two versions were available (black and "same color"), I honestly would have had a tougher decision to make - black to go with my 70's/80's Avengers, or same-color to go with X-Factor and/or Inhumans (i.e. "modern" - circa 90's and after), as I would not have bought both (especially considering I'm getting the Green as well), though I have seen posts from some that would buy both.

Here's hoping that you get an answer from the "power to be", and that answer satisfies your preference . . .

Randy - thanks to Al's thread regarding "Which Phase IV FS Will You Buy", wherein he indicated edition sizes and quantity remaining available for Power Man and Luke Cage, and seeing that said info is now posted on the BD website (that's a first for me!!) . . . please consider the following:

Of busts solicited for July and August release, I have thus far "passed" on the Crimson Dynamo, Iron Monger, and Mimic (for various reasons), at least one of which I may consider picking up at a later date from the secondary market. However, if I knew the edition size for the respective bust was (in relative terms) "more limited", I may not chance getting it later at a comparable cost.

Not knowing what may have motivated the inclusion of the info for the PM and LC FS (again, a "first" for me), perhaps inclusion of comparable info for some of the busts would be motivation enough for those "fence-sitters" to "climb down". From my experience buying your products (all-but exclusively direct for the past two+ years), I do not necessarily expect this kind of info to be published on a consistent basis, however, doing so for those items that may be "lingering" (again, relatively speaking) on the order page may assist in eliciting more "direct" orders (which, I'm imagining, nets you a better return than sales made to distributors, even after the 20% discount for CC members).

Just a thought . . . from ONE customer whose buying decision(s) on occasion may be swayed should said info be available . . .

While i think BD does a fantastic job listening to & pleasing its fanboy constituency and this Phase's statues have raised the bar dramatically, the one weakness I would observe is the relative dearth of fs female characters. I "discovered" Bowen right as Phase 4 was announced & your comments that Valkyrie was one of your fave characters & one of the first you were excited to sculpt yourself for the Phase was a huge incentive for me to swallow the blue pill, as it were. it would be a great disappointment, i fear to many, if this statue didn't happen. (Ditto Mystique, Emma Frost, Psylocke, & Wasp, as well as ANY major Marvel villainess.)

I wouldn't presume that we know every statue/character at work in the imaginations & hands of your marvelous (get it?) sculptors/designers, nor all the intricacies of the licensing deal w/ Marvel. However, i really believe these characters are every bit as beloved and "deserving" as any & that without them the line is out of balance. it would also seem that the Jean Grey & Medusa statues are BIG hits, if that's any indication of the likely success of more female characters. Perhaps you're playing coy & will sneak a fully-painted Valkyrie or Psylocke the way you did w/ Black Knight & Quicksilver--that would be FANTASTIC.

while i'd never wish to limit anyone else's collections--esp those many who prefer mb's over fs's--perhaps a way to include MORE characters in a time-sensitive Phase would be not to do BOTH mb & fs versions. in that case, i'd very respectfully argue for spectacular fs's of the top-tier heroines (such as founding Avenger Wasp, Defenders mainstay Valkyrie, Hela, etc.) & mb's of more obscure, inactive, or B-list ladies (Mockingbird, the Enchantress, Firestar, etc).

as always, my comments/queries are meant w/ respect & appreciation & i hope you're able to address them as you see fit.

Jono, we're usually in agreement on most things, but I have to beg to differ on this one. On not one, bit two, polls last year, Valkyrie was the number one Most Wanted bust. Plus, with Nighthawk and Hellcat already out, there's no way a Valkyrie bust can't be done.
I would be upset if there were no Ms, Marvel/Warbird bust this Phase ~ afterall, she's been in the Top Five of every Avengers poll over the last six years! ~ but I could live with it. No Valkyrie? THAT would have me PISSED!!

well, OK. it was just a question/idea, FM. i wasn't trying to get RB to cancel any busts or statues or anything. i'd rather see more characters. which medium--bust or statue--isn't as crucial to me. from the sound of it, RB'd been very looking forward to sculpting the Valkyrie fs himself & the Ms. Marvel fs is already done. i've got both fs's & mb's in my collection & i imagine many other collectors do, too.

I hear ya on the fs, they are really top notch this phase. I mainly collect X-Men though I have a few favorites like Firelord and dd, but some of the fs sneeked are so tempting. It's taking all my willpower to avoid starting on other teams. I must resist! If I focus on the X-Men, I can make it the best it could be.

1) Will the final paint up have a lighter and more vibrant green? The current one seems too dark.

2) Can more red be added to her hair, she's looking burnette?

3) I thought their were pictures of her belt corrected, but here it seems the same shape. What will her final belt be?

So far for Phase IV we've seen just 15 mini-busts solicited and a whopping *TWENTY-SIX* full-size statues. What's the deal here? Is Bowen Designs moving away from mini-busts? Are the mini-busts going to catch up with the full-size statues, or are full-size statues the new main focus of Bowen Designs?

Is this a Maddox Ronan? The piece seems to be inspired by John Byrne's Handbook image and Jim is the master at capturing Byrne's style. No matter what this is a nice piece and will look great with that metallic green paint for his armor.

may i ask for a clarification? does this mean only those characters named (such as Dracula or Mockingbird or Wasp), or does this also include in-progress statues that we've not seen updated (such as Hyperion or modern Ms. Marvel)?
