I had Simon, AKA Jew Mafia pick up a sketch from Tony Moore at the Hurley Con today.
This is what I got.

Just curious, and not sure if it's cool if you say, but what did you do to get that? (Just askin', cuz it says "Thanks, Pat" on it.)

We did have to have a second or two conversation about that very thing.
An I'm scanning in the sketches as we speak Pat.

My scanner is tiny so some of this got cut off. But I'm pretty sure you can still see the awesome.

An then for myself, Tony was kind enough to add Mara from Fear Agent (awesome book, you must check it out) to my theme.

It's kind of fun an most of the artists dig being part of them.

Also, I have to include the awesomeness of these other artists who were kind enough to sketch for me at the show.
Jeremy Haun doing The Great Machine from Ex Machina

Kevin Mellon doing Zatanna for the theme

I've started bringing 2 sketch books to shows now. One to keep for my theme and one for odds and ends. It really helps with time too, if an artist wants to keep one of the sketch books to work on for a while.

good idea. i don't know how many cons i'll be going to, megacon was my first big one and i've only been to one other pretty small one, but i'm digging the original art. picking that up and hanging with creators, hearing stories, is all sorts of cool. and motivates me. and my old ass needs alll the motivation i can get.

Dang, that's a cool sketch.
I had a kick-ass sketchbook up and running early in the 2000s, with highlight commissions like Chadwick's Concrete, Steve Lieber on The Shadow, and what I think is a pretty rare thing - a sketch of Snow White from Bill Willingham. But for whatever reason my enthusiasm for comics has been on the rocks for a few years and I can't quite work up the steam to go back to cons again - despite an occasional urge to start up a Classic Trek themed sketchbook.
When I see other folks' good sketches, though, I sometimes feel that bug again.
