Wow.

I loved it yet again. There was that rocky where Heinberg let the joke outweight the story and character. But it was just one page. And those were some funny jokes--and it's hard to vut funny jokes--I know. But those made it weird.

But other than that, fuck yes. Loved it. I think this is the first time I've seen 2 cliffhangers in one issue. That rules. Because it kinda breaks them.

Very surprised to see Kate Bishop again. Where the hell is he going with this? Maybe she could be Ant-Girl. I was thinking maybe Hawkeye after the star thing. I dunno.

I feel these relationships in this books forming. It's working really well. I love the interaction between these characters. It's great. Especially the new ones. And speaking of that, he fucking basically added new members the second issue. Who does that? That's so awesome.

I totally called Cassie showing up--but who didn't I guess.

But the ending--fuck. That was awesome. Genius, really. If this book keeps taking turns like that--well--Bendis has some hardcore competition.

the art really took tons of steps away from the last issue. It really was better to me, like a progression--maybe of getting to know the characters.

I could keep going. This is one of my favorites. Top 5 easy.

Keep breaking those rules Allen.

So let's discuss and speculate. What'd you kids think?

I love the book. It is very well written and the surprises are huge and around every corner. I like the characters and hope to see more cast members.

Gotta love how Cassie Lang has been brought back into the fold. I hope Heinberg stays on the title for a long time (I don't see why he wouldn't, but you never know). Definitely looking forward to him working on the JLA five issue arc with Johns.

This was a really good comic week for those of you who haven't gone to your lcs yet.

Ultimates, Manhunter, Wolverine, Wonder Woman (crossover with Flash that was very good), Young Avengers, Teen Titans, and Ex-Machina. The only thing that would have made it better was New Avengers.

It was a great issue. Vaughan just gets better and I want the third issue in my hands right now. The ending is great. Hell, the whole damn thing is some of the best comicery out right now.

Yes, I did just invent comicery.

I dug issue 2. Good characterization all around. Really nice pacing, too, with the flashbacks (or flashforwards, rather) into Iron Lad's origins. All great stuff.

I'm betting that she becomes the young version of Hawkeye, as well.

Really? I assumed it was pretty obvious in issue #1 that Heinberg is setting her up to be a new team member. I mean, why else would there have been so much attention devoted to her in the first issue, when the focus is supposed to be on introducing the series regulars? Plus the fact that she was just as capable of taking out the bad guys as the Young Avengers were...

Maybe she could be Ant-Girl. I was thinking maybe Hawkeye after the star thing. I dunno.

Many people have been speculating Hawkeye, since she has been wearing all purple thus far, plus she has a relationship of conflict with Patriot (the Cap stand-in), just like Hawkeye had with Cap in the early days.

Personally, I hope she doesn't become a teen Hawkeye, just because I would find it somewhat offensive for Clint to be replaced so quickly after being killed off.
I like the character of Kate and I want her as part of the team...just not as a new Hawkeye.

And speaking of that, he fucking basically added new members the second issue. Who does that? That's so awesome.

If you liked that, check out New Thunderbolts...Fabian Niceiza added new members in the 2nd (and 3rd) issues of that book. :)

So let's discuss and speculate. What'd you kids think?

Heinberg has put my fears to rest about Cassie Lang in this book. Originally, I was extremely skeptical about the idea--when last we saw her, she was being written and drawn as if she were an 8 year old, and she was the helpless hostage of an overweight, non-powered man. In short, not someone I was finding even remotely credible as a potential teen hero.
But here he establishes that she is 14, almost 15 (I guess she had a major growth spurt, which explains why she looks so much more mature now) and she has taken self-defense classes so she can handle herself. I am now looking forward to seeing more of Cassie in this series, whereas before I was cringing and hoping she wouldn't show up.

Patriot's sexist is really getting on my nerves. I know it is not uncommon for teenage guys to have that sort of macho, guys-are-better-than-girls attitude, but it is annoying. But it does make for some amusement since he keeps getting humiliated by all the girls in the book--hopefully he try his sexist bullshit on Jessica; she'll smarten him up!
He really pissed me off when he grabbed Cassie's arm and tried to stop her from going in the Mansion--who the hell does that punk think he is? HE is the one trespassing, so he has no right to tell her she can't go in and retrieve her own property (well, technically, now that Scott is dead his equipment might actually become Pym's property again, but still....)

Interesting comments in the letters page regarding the speculation about a possible gay relationship between Asgardian and Hulkling. Although Heinberg doesn't confirm or deny anything, his comments suggested to me that there IS something going on there. I look forward to seeing how this plays out.

I do wonder what Kang is up to with his younger self. He knows better than to try and alter his own past--all he'll end up doing is creating a divergent timeline; his own history won't be affected. There must be something more going on here....

A few things that bugged me . . .

Iron Lad's traveling back in time seemed confusing. Would there be a future Kang if young Kang doesn't want that to happen?

Tony Stark just keeps Vision in a box at one of his warehouses? That's respect for you. How many times has Vision saved his butt? And isn't that just asking a supervillian to come steal the android?

Why would Ant Man's equipment still be in the mansion? Wouldn't the Avengers kind of, I don't know, clean up? Check for shrinking equipment that some kid might get hold of? Wouldn't Tony want to box something like that and throw it in a warehouse?

Depends. You COULD say that because we've seen Kang in the past, he will always be there. What has happened does not change. This is why time travel sucks :)

Also though, kang could turn evil, or maybe older Kang planned this.

Tony Stark just keeps Vision in a box at one of his warehouses? That's respect for you. How many times has Vision saved his butt? And isn't that just asking a supervillian to come steal the android?
Well, we don't know time-frames or reason. If they planned on trying to fix him, I don't see the problem.

Why would Ant Man's equipment still be in the mansion? Wouldn't the Avengers kind of, I don't know, clean up? Check for shrinking equipment that some kid might get hold of?
Well it is no ones property and there isn't an Avengers left. Suppose everyone just locked up and went.

Great issue as an aside.

You know, I thought Asgardian was a girl. Maybe... just maybe... both of them are girls. Hulkling would make one hell of a lesbian.

Okay, I don't really expect that to happen, but it would be pretty cool.

It seems now, though, that the only original Avenger who doesn't have a YA analog is The Wasp. And Rick Jones. I'd love to see Jessica's intern/stalker kid from Alias take on the Rick Jones role.

(And then... Young Cerci! Young Carol Danvers! Young Great Lakes Avengers! Or is it Great Lakes Young Avengers!)

I'm enjoying this book. I haven't been blown away by it, but I've seen enough interesting stuff to keep me on at least through the first arc. I like the characters, I like the interaction between them, and I like the way Heinberg is incorporating so many things that have occured recently in the Marvel U. I was kind of surprised to see the Vision just chucked on the floor in a warehouse, though. And it does seem kind illogical that the team wouldn't have secured Ant-man's equipment somehow. This is potentially dangerous stuff, after all. Still, I'm not one to let minor plotholes like that prevent me from enjoying a good story. I'm anxious to see more.

I think 'Young Avengers' is a stupid name for a title, and I can't wait for these kids to get stones enough to change it, if only to set themselves apart from the 'Old Avengers' or 'New Avengers' or whatever. They should be self-suffiecient enough to come up with their own identity. But it IS a pretty good book, and yes, the surprises keep coming.

The pacing is pretty slow and the characters are obnoxious. Speed Demon and Joystick are intolerable. Songbird wants to be likeable, but outside of battle, she's whiny. Captain Marvel got taken out by Atlas, a character who has no personality imo. The only redeeming qualities of the book are Mach 4 and Radioactive Man. I read the first five issues, and other than the oddly colored Man (trying not to spoil) sub plot, there is really no reason for me to stay.

and starfire and wondergirl and the girls from runaways (except molly) and
mary jane and sue storm and jean grey and kittypryde and emma frost and black cat and wonder woman and scarlet witch and the wasp and she hulk
and sometimes i picture jean kissing kitty while raven and starfire go at it in front of a camera and emma doing a pole dance for mj and jessica jones getting anal

and then i realize just how pathetic i am
*sob* *sob*

talk about a run on sentence
