I love that the skrull needs a shave!
He needs a Braun shaver bigtime! Keep in mind these paintings are supposed to represent the hybrid form between Hero and full-on Skrull. Just like the Skrull/Ms Marvel who had the funkified chin and green skin, but still retained blond hair and a bit of color to her lips. None of these illustrations are going to be complete Skrulls.

AWESOME GREG! I too like the stubble on Skrullverine (eh, it's a work in progress) :D
So this is your Super Secret Invasion project eh? What's going to happen once all 10 images have been released? A super secret surprise reveal? ;)
What's going to happen once all 10 images have been released?
A revolt by Marvel fans ending in the burning of all their comic books?
They told me they're going to do "something special" with the last two characters, so they are probably going to save the best two for last. I'll give you a clue on the next one--he was a major part of one of the She-Hulk story arcs... you'll never guess though

Ok, major part of She-Hulk story arcs....I'm assuming Dan Slott's She-Hulk run, so let's see......Doc Samson, Hulk, Iron Man, Awesome Andy, The Leader, Starfox, Thanos, and finally SHE-HULK herself. Less than 24 hours till it's revealed.....

Shouldn't it be Whom Do You Trust? Or have Skrulls infiltrated the English language as well?
A Blues Clue? About 3 years ago somebody told me I look like "the guy from Blues Clues" I hate that--he looks like the kid you beat up on the bus  My kids love him... they probably think i am on TV.
Anyway, all your guesses on the next Skrull are wrong Charlie-Chan :-? I'm going to sleep in about half an hour, but you can fire off some more guesses and still grab all the glory if you're right. But... if you guess wrong again...well, we are all just going to make fun of you, Mr She-Hulk "expert"
Shouldn't it be Whom Do You Trust? Or have Skrulls infiltrated the English language as well?
Yeah, but then it sounds all hoighty-toighty "Whom" do you trust? You are required by law to put your pinky in the air when you say that.
Sometimes, bad grammar just work.

Bad grammar is quite appropriate for certain situations.

How many skrull characters are you drawing ?
Ben... Scarlett...wha? I don't saavy. :mistrust:
The 10 characters are already assigned and i think the aim is to choose characters whose recent controversial histories may cause us to really consider whether they are in fact Skrulls! For instance, I believe hawkeye is currently dead... what if he's really just been replaced by a stinkin', lousy, dopplegangin', back-stabbin' Skrull?

Just for fun, since the characters for these teasers have been set already, I'll post my guesses for the final 8:
- Black Widow
- Cyclops
- Reed Richards
- Spider-Woman
- Wonder Man
- Luke Cage
- Hank Pym
- Nick Fury
Compiling this list was more difficult than I envisioned.

Okay, you guessed a few right, but this no good...I mean now everybody is just going to throw up guesses and I'll eventually have to name all 10 by tomorrow!! Instead, I am going to give a clue before each posting (like i did for Hawkeye). Here goes: The third Skrulled-out character will be posted on Monday. This character has not shaved in a while, and he is not a woman.

Hawkeye! How could I forget him! He was even on your 2nd She-Hulk cover. I like the spikes on the arrows. Nice touch :)
Any chance of seeing the top half of Ms. Marvel #25? :D
Thanks m'man! You may remember I posted a collection of arrow designs last month that went unused? So i was able to use that as a quick design resource. I had the arrow designed in no seconds flat!
I don't think the REAL Hawkeye would use that arrow do you?

Hey Greg, where's today's SI image? I guess we still have a few hours left, but still I was hoping to get my daily Skrull fix for Saturday. Maybe they're only doing it for business days- LAME!
Only business days... wait till Monday
The first Blues Clue for Monday's Skrull was: "This character has not shaved in a while, and he is not a woman."
The 2nd Blues Clue: This Hero sometimes uses a weapon.
Any guesses?
No guesses on the third Skrull? Okay, this is the last clue. This character has been known to utter such words as "For sooth" and "Have at thee!"
He's the kinda guy who'd probably say "Whom do you Trust?"

Okay. Okay. This Hercules is a tad too sexsy-man to be a Skrull, i admit it-- Even if he is a hybrid form halfway between Skrull and Herc.... Hercules and Wolverine were the first ones I started on and I was more Hero-minded than evil Skrull minded. Luckily with Wolverine, he is always snarling anyway so it works. But, with Herc i went too passive. In the end i decided to give him a sneer so it at least looks like he is at least thinking about evil!
Spidey, I'm going to kill you for that Blues clues "Greg and Steve" thing. My wife will probably send that out to the whole family!! :-x
Anyway......
CLUE!! for the next Skrull:
The fourth Skrull appears on www.MARVEL.com tomorrow. This is easily the best one and will have lots of people talking I'm sure of it. Here's CLUE ONE as to their identity:
The fourth Skrull does not possess a "unit"

O.K., everybody, here are your first clues for the next Marvel Skrull portrait*:
-- This character enjoys cigars
-- This character has a gruff demeanor
-- This character is often singled out because of his appearance
-- This character's archenemy wears a metal helmet
-- This character is a duck named Howard
* It is important to note that Spidey004 is in no way affiliated with Marvel Comics or Greg Horn and is, in fact, lying about these clues relating to the next Marvel Skrull Portrait.

I think we need a Nick Furry Skrull. That would make more sense than any other character other than Hawkeye and Spiderwoman. He disappeared for so long and is going to make a return now? Why should we trust him?
Nick Fury! That's a great idea! I can tell you right now there is no Nick Fury Skrull planned, but i'll shoot that by the guys and see what they think.
The Fifth Skrull character is revealed tomorrow morning--it is pertinent that you guess who it is going to be. The fate of the earth rests on your shoulders....
CLUE 1: The next Skrullified hero can take to the air.
and because I like you guys...CLUE 2: This character has black hair

Since that list I made a few days ago is turning out to be rubbish, I'll deviate from it and say Falcon.
I love the art but I'm not a fan of this idea by Marvel. Seems kind of cheap and easy.
Not Black Falcon...
New info: I just talked to one of my "bros" at Marvel, and I came away thinking all these Skrull suspects were more probable than possible! essentially, any one of these characters can be Skrulls. You've only been here a few weeks so you missed the big blow out on the Elektra reveal. Check out the infamous thread "Would you "DO" a Skrull" here:
http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=122165
In the end, I understand your feelings because I was thinking "HOW LONG has elektra been a Skrull?" Does this go back to my run back in 2001!? Don't tell me i was painting a Skrull all that time!!!

Can take to the air, so either this character has the ability to fly or some sort of apparatus that enables flight or something ressembling flight. Black Hair...
That leads me to guess 2 members of the Mighty Avengers- Wasp or Wonder Man. I personally hope it's Simon, given his current relationship with Carol, plus there's already some speculation he's a Skrull.

Spider-Man. Wow. So Greg, has Marvel told you who is and isn't a Skrull? Do they trust a cover artist with such covert information. :)
Any clues you can provide for the next Skrull pic.
Hey, remember I said these Skrull characters were purely conjectural a few pages back? I just talked to somebody "in the know", and it sounded to me like the 10 characters I'm painting are more probable suspects than possible suspects!

Do you read Marvel comics? They are all ones people would think are Skrulls. I am still waiting for the Iron Man one though. Ever since Civil War, he has been the biggest dick in the Marvel Universe.

Alright, you DID mention Spider-woman a week ago. You win an onion ring.

Luke Cage.
Judging by the other pics, all the characters look like they did in the 80's or there about. Luke had the yellow shirt then, a metal chain for a belt if I remember correctly, and was using the name Power Man, which was also the name of a villain.

Not Cyclops? Wow I was about to congratulate Hackenbrush, cuz I thought he got it. Ok, former criminal now leading another team? For it's 2 different teams correct one that he was a member of, and now the current one he's leading?
I'm tempted to say Yellowjacket or Justice both heroes and both did criminal activities now part of The Initiative both assuming Leadership roles, but I'll say Norman Osborn aka THE GREEN GOBLIN!

Well Yellowjacket has been part of the Avengers and the West coast. Now he's a high strung Initiative leader.

DAMN IT! Unless of course, it's the adamantium claws which depending on the writer isn't a natural power of Wolverine, like in Marc Guggenheim's Civil War tie-in issues ;)
And of course there is Phoenix using telekenisis to raise her hair, but that could just be hair gel :D ;)
But any case, I like it cuz it shows a Skrull showing off a power that can't be copied simply through shape shifting like claws, but a great foreshadow of the new breed of Skrulls.

But, these last characters will not be revealed until the end of March. this does not mean our fun is on hold just yet though. There will be an 11th Skrull!! I'm working on it right now.

Hey, gang!
Just for fun, I'm gonna take a stab at the next Skrully Marvel Hero BEFORE Senor Horn gives us any hints.
Hmmmm... it'll probably be someone with a major presence in the Marvel Universe... just to have a big impact...
Maybe it'll be someone who's been kind of a douche lately...
I'm getting a Robert Downey, Jr. vibe...
Could it be... Iron Man?

For some reason that link to the Iron Man Skrull image wasn't working for me, so I just went to marvel's website and saw it, and it LOOKS AMAZING!
I was wondering how Greg was going to pull Iron Man off in full body suit, but he did a great job. It really is creepy and menacing. I like the bottom row of his teeth all jagged and sharp. Can't wait for the last bunch. Hope Marvel still has work for you Greg after this little Skrull project is over. :D

Quick question, Greg:
Are you getting good feedback from the folks at Marvel on these portraits? You must be. They're really terrific!
Oh yeah, I was also wondering if these will be collected in some Secret Invasion poster book or something?

As great a tease as it is, I wish there was more Skrull features like coloring the armor green and purple and maybe giving it some Skrully ears. What'da ya think Greg :) ?
Whoops! I didn't realize they were putting Iron Man out today!! I thought they were saving him for a big reveal later in March! DRAT! We didn't get to play trivia on this one. My first clue would have been: This character wears red and yellow armor and his first name is "Iron".
Hey, how do you like that texture I put on the armor? Gives it a nice "worn" feel dontcha think? The tough part on this piece was revealing the Skrull, but still showing enough of the mask of Iron Man.

Not only do I like it, but I appreciate it. The man flies at various altitudes at ridiculous speeds in that suit on a daily basis. You can't tell me that the armor doesn't have residue from evaporated condensation, bugs, clouds, etc. It looks more realistic when it's dingy. Don't get me started on flying superheroes that don't have armor. God only knows what those people get in their hair.
Anyway - Great job, Horn. Your eye for detail does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Hey Greg, first let me congratulate you on both these AWESOME SKRULL pics and creating this thread which has already become the longest one on your jinxoworld forum.
That said, how's about some CLUES for the last batch of Skrulls? Can't wait. Any other Marvel projects you can tease us with besides your Ms. Marvel extension? Any other SI projects they got ya on? Afterall, there's a tentative tie-in list out for the first few months, any involvment on your part :D?

The armor doesn't look really worn to me, but more like brushed aluminum on the gold part right above the lips. Where are the worn parts at?
There's little scratches and imperfections all over. I'm not talking dents or anything like that.
HEY! There is going to be FOUR MORE SKRULLS!! :D I'm working on some art work right now to be posted tomorrow morning. I gotta get some dinner before I faint, so trivia starts in about one hour.

Okay since Iron Man was #8 and the last two I did are reserved for later, I guess we are looking at Skrull #9... I'm still working on this one, so its going to be a looong night. The first clue is kind of obscure, but i can't make it too easy as the night is young.....

There's 5 more Skrulls left, and one of them is due to a suggestion on this very board!! --somebody's gonna score some credit, but I'm not going to say which character it is just yet.

Know you've been busy with Megacon and all. But how're the Skrull pics coming along? More importantly when can we expect the next one? It seems like forever since we had one. Afterall, it's like 3 weeks until Secret Invasion is released ;)
Hey! I hadn't seen that video--thanks for posting Spidey! I just got back from MegaCon and I have 5 more Skrulls to do by the end of this month. That's a tough deadline but not as tough as the first 10! I'm pretty certain we will release one this week at least. i'm going to find out what the deadline is right now!
Has anyone seen the Secret Invasion image that has some of my Skrulls on it and looks like a magazine spread?....it kind of looks like a movie poster fold-out or something... SKRULL CLUES!!!!!!!
So what can you tell us about this one? Was this one of the original 10 you were asked to do, or one of the new ones that came about later and supposedly inspired by a suggestion HERE at this board?
The character to be posted tomorrow morning at Marvel.com is one of the four additionals, but not the one suggested by youse guys. Crying!? Doctor Doom is a Rock! He is an Island! A rock feels no pain and an island never cries. Its all just melted flesh. Do you like how his eye lid has a permenant flesh drip? Nasty!
On a somewhat related note, "Permanent Flesh Drip" would be a great name for a band. :D
Hell yeah! This could be their album cover! ;)

Is it just me, or does his chin lines seem like they would be a little far over for the direction of his head tilt?

Top o' the mornin' to ya! According to the time stamp Dr. Hackenbush is the first correct guesser of DR. DOOM. Makes sense since you are both doctors. What's your field Hackenbush...don't tell me "Doctor of Love." anyway, here is the Skrulled up nemesis of The Fantastic Four:

So Paul Simon wrote that for Doctor Doom? It all makes sense now. :D
Great image. No one can really go around looking like who they are on the inside but Dr. Doom comes darn close, especially this hybrid Skrull version.

Love seeing a skrull villain!
Also, Doom did cry in the JMS/JRJr Amazing Spidey 9/11 issue ;-)
If Doom cried, then surely he was a Skrull...

My Saint Patty's day was was like a roll in the clovers, Lassie. I got drunk and kissed the "Blarney stone".
Wow...that was almost racist wasn't it...my apologies to Irishmen everywhere, but at least i didn't invent Ronald McDonald.
As for clues, it's pretty early in the day so this first one will be really obscure. CLUE #1: This character's first love is dead. Don't forget boyos, one guess per person or i'll whack ye on yer noggin with my shillelagh.

Wow, talk about obscure. Ok, I'll go out on a limb and say...CAPTAIN AMERICA!
I'll be amazed if that's the answer. Makes sense seeing as how almost everyone he knew from his time is dead ......:D WOOHOOO! Just like Phillip J. Fry in Futurama- great show by the way and new episodes coming soon!

NOOOO WAIT!!!! I change my mind! It should be obvious, it's in my name! But that seems too easy....:mistrust:, is that really it? D'OH! I already used up my guess, so i'll let someone else guess it :surrend:, but i want SOME credit if it is indeed Spi----

Or Cyclops or Rogue (though not dead, in a coma), or Doc Oc, or the punisher...but you see what I'm getting at. Though a spidey skrull would be flippin sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
 Too early to cast my guess, me thinks.
Spidey616 guessed twice-- FOUL! I demand you throw any previously won onions away as penance!
not Cap... not spidey
