Me 'n' Dan talked about my new miniseries today. Just gotta figure out how many issues it's gonna be and then we're off to the races!
Yay! *fingers crossed for a Blue Beetle and Kid Devil buddy mini*
Gail Simone.
Is this perhaps a Glory/Ben type situation?
Worst Buffy big bad ever. Well maybe not, but still she's the reason we have Dawn.

Alan Scott really could do with a retold origin.
I don't know. Isn't he still supposed to have been a hero during WWII? That could make things more confusing. If it's out of continuity, I'm all for it!
It's a reference to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In season 5....
The main villain of the season, Glory, shared her body with a nice young medical intern named Ben. Half the time uber powerful God Glory, half the time plain old Ben. I think Ray was insulting you.
Someone alert a mod! Creator bashing.

The Batman had a good 5 season run. The Legion only lasted 26 episodes. I bet we'll see the Spidey cartoon for another few seasons. At least the X-men cartoon should becoming to Nickelodeon soon.
GLC cartoon would be awesome, but personally I'd love to see Flash.

I don't know how well Flash would translate to cartoons. It's never been as...pardon the pun, Flashy as some other DC properties.
A GLC cartoon, done GL style, could really use the property to its full potential. A huge cast of characters, epic space battles, etc.

But the Flash cartoon would be done Flash style. That would make it all sorts of cool.
And The Flash actually had a TV show.

Orwell had a hard on for politics.
Huxley was a humanist, writing about negative aspects of developping technology
And steinbeck loved those struggling American working folk
Every Vonnegut novel I've read follows a very similar structure.

DC Universe Reviews:
A solid start to a long-awaited miniseries, but it suffers from a problem I was worried about - not enough time spent on the Tangent Earth! That, of course, is still fantastic. The psychic Superman has taken over the world, creating a twisted utopia of perpetual monitoring in the name of eliminating crime and evil. The Joker is now a broken prisoner after years in his reeducation camps. The Tangent Green Lantern is a broken old woman, powerless since her Lantern of Life was lost in the crisis, and her agelessness with it. And the mysterious Manhunter and her partner the Spectre are on a secret mission deep in one of Superman's bases. Great stuff. Unfortunately, the story grinds to a halt when we move to our world and show the Tangent Flash, the perky Lia Nelson, interacting with our heroes to get the Lantern back to her world. Also, too much is devoted to the backstory of the world in the backup feature. A necessary evil, but next issue I'd like to see more of the main event. Especially given the big reveal at the end of this issue. The world's #1 hero, the Atom...is Superman's prisoner.
I have to disagree with you here. This is a lot better than expected for an opening issue. Definitey better than some of the comics you've previously given higher marks to...such as Wonder Woman #18.
9/10
I think the backup feature was a nice recap to the history of this Earth...and a very good idea to have. You can't expect people to have read the past minis or collected the Trades. IMO, the backup feature should have been told right up front...to get new readers acclimated to this parallel Earth.
Jurgens does a good job at opening up the story and creating a bit of a mystery to what has happened in the 10 years since the last story took place (I assume). I have the first 2 Trades and should have the 3rd shortly, it will be interesting to see what if this fills in a few more pieces of the puzzle. Hopefully, this Earth won't end up obliterated like the Elseworld ones - there's lots of potential here.

I just finished reading Hellboy - Seed of Destruction. It was good...however it didn't really seem to hook me into the universe. I'm willing to give it another try though, what book would you next recommend? Also, what about the Hellboy series do you enjoy?

I really enjoyed Wonder Woman! I can see it's not for everyone, but I'm loving it.
As for this, I'm glad you liked it. I tend not to be a fan of divided comics, and I feel like we've seen enough of the Tangent heroes visiting our Earth. But I'm definitely along for the ride, and what is up with you being the positive reviewer to me lately?

Up and Down I guess. You liked Wonder Woman, I hated it. The female Khund quoting MTV and acting like a fangirl was horrible, the whole relationship with Nemesis seemed out of nowhere to me (it could be me, I only jumped on with Gail on board) , and I had no clue who the hell the other Earth woman was on the alien planet. Seemed very silly to me.

See, I find THAT to be the most interesting aspect. I just wish there were Cliff Notes by the author discussing which culture they're taking this from, etc. I don't have time on my hands to go digging into this stuff. Although, I guess I could google most of it...
I haven't read my trades in a while, but I think in some of them he has some brief notes about the inspirations.
The female Khund thing was a bit...out there, but I was amused.
The thing with Nemesis has been building since the Heinberg run, so that's probably it.
You didn't recognize Etta Candy?
No. I didn't recognize her. She's human but doesn't find the whole experience of being on an alien world strange or frightening...she just wants to kick some ass. I'd rather more human emotion...unless she's seen a whole hell of a lot! Besides, what can she do with a gun that the Khunds can't do with their weapons?

The quality is going to end up hinging on editorial, I think. Normally Geoff Johns is a dependable writer, but he didn't get much say in what happened in his own book.

Yeah, I'm still a little nervous, but the fact that Seaguy 2 is apparently gonna happen makes me think that Morrison has DC by the balls right now.
I think they've pretty much gotta do what he wants.

I imagine the Scotland discussion went something like this.
Didio: So, listen, Grant, here's what we're going to need you to do for Final Crisis. First, kill these 22 Titans -
Grant: *voodoo curse* The next one shrivels your other ball.
Didio: So, Seaguy II, huh?

I know that(Wiki'd the character), but I just meant I'm surprised her name didn't ring a bell. She's one of the most famous WW supporting characters.
....Which, granted, is kind of like being the greatest Chinchilla shot-putter.

There's only 2 of the newer WS books really worth it, and that's the Morrison/Lee Wildcats and the Morriso/Ha Authority.
And unless you're planning on going cryogenic any time soon, you're not gonna get backlogged on those 2. :)

That's untrue. I would venture to say Authority is one of the weaker titles of the relaunch and it's impossible to tell is WildCATs would be any good or not with only one issue.

Look I know I have somewhat of a rep here as an unabashed Morrison koolaid chugger (and an absolute Quitely whore), but in all honesty...
All Star Superman #10 is one of the most beautiful and mind-blowingly brilliant issues of anything I have ever read.
#8 and #9 were good, but left me a little cold in comparison to the other issues. This issue however, not only is as good as all the issues before it, but is probably even more perfect.
I need to read it a couple more times, and reread some of the older ones to pick up on everything, but I can seriously say this issue was flat-out perfection.

Countdown is so bad. Just really really really bad.
Can someone explain the last page of GL to me? I'm not a huge DC guy and I couldn't figure out what was going on.

Yeah, I'm really curious to see what Ray has to say about this week's issue.

So this happened:
*girl walks by, I'm on a bench reading Anasni Boys*
Girl: Ohh Neil Gaiman.
*walks away*
You should have went after her.
Oh, trust me, you need The New Frontier!
Absolute New Frontier is the most beautiful comic ever produced, period.
I like those chronicles trades
Me too, I love those stories. I bought Superman 2 today.

So, Countdown 5 - Still no dialogue. Still lame.
Green Lantern 29 - What is the point of this? A total waste of time and money, and I don't think I've ever said that about Johns before.
Legion of Super-Heroes 40 - Awesome.
All-Star Superman 10 - Awesome.
I also bought Superman 674. I thought it was great. Cool to see Mon-El. I wish Guedes was on Supergirl, but as long as he stays in the Superman family it's cool.

I've thought that about pretty much every story I've ever read by Johns.

Regarding A*S #10,
"Behold, I teach you the Superman..."
and especially
"...this is going to change everything."
both literally gave me the chills.
No book since We3 has hit me on such a gut emotional level.

Because All-Star Superman is the absolute opposite of "ass".
(also to avoid all the crappy jokes it leads to ;))

Johns writes great action epics. I don't know why he's retelling Hal's origin. It seems pointless. Although I guess it's tying into the next big Lantern event or whatever. Still strange.

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend it.
If you've made it this far waiting for the collection, I'd say stick with that. All 12 issues are going to work together wonderfully when it's done.

I'm sorry, but pretty much every Johns story feels paint-by-numbers to me. The stories are fine for what they are, but I've never once felt like he had anything other to say besides "Look at this guy get punched!".
Just doesn't do it for me.

It's okay to love ASS. I'd take a good ASS over inferior products. ASS was extra-sized this week! My ASS was ripped in the middle, did this happen to anyone else? What will I do when there's no more ASS? I look forward to grabbing ASS at the comic shop. I would pay $60 for Absolute ASS. My dog was playing with my ASS and tore it to shreds. etc etc..
