*GULP* I just read 52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen...and actually liked it!!! Don't ask me what the heck happened in the end, cause I really didn't understand it...but I really enjoyed how Giffen wrote the Trinity!! Along with Snapper Carr and especially Dr Cale and the Oolong Island scientists!!
What was everyone else's (Ray is probably the only other person who read this) opinion?
Yes, it was my birthday. Thanks guys!

Interesting, you're probably the first positive review I've heard.
I found it to be a mostly overwrought zombie thriller with antagonists that never quite sold themselves as real threats, as opposed to in 52. I did like the way the Trinity was written, but found the plotting mediocre at best.

I went in expecting to hate it...but I didn't. Some nice use of the Doom Patrol (minus Beast Boy though :( ), Batman giving Snapper lots of shit, Batman's conversations with Mister Terrific were amusing, Batman's battle well done...
Perhaps the Four Horsemen weren't as formidable as they should be...but then again, Black Adam took them all on.
I do admit that I have no clue about the whole technobabble was about...they were no longer of pure apokoliptan origin but now a mix...have no clue how that translated into the end result of Dr Cale taking them all down. I think more time dedicated to the mad scientists would have made this book a must read!

Wasn't planning on it...but this mini actually changed my mind. Perhaps it read better to me because I read all 6 issues back to back.
And they need to throw Blaze into that mix!! She's the sister of Satanus!! She killed poor Jerry White. :(

She's in there. The main battle is Neron vs. Satanus, but she has her own agenda.
I'm a massive Neron fan. He's one of my many DCU obscure favorites.

I was reading the comics that first introduced Blaze and then later on Satanus (aka Colin Thorton, publisher of a rival paper/magazine). I have no clue what happened to these two...I'm pretty sure I stopped buying Superman comics not too long after Satanus came to be.

They haven't been used in any really important way in years. Satanus' last important story was in JM DeMatteis' Superman run a few years back.

What exactly are you looking for and what condition are you hoping to find some of these comics in? I may be able to help a little bit with the Legionnaires when they were stuck in present DCU time. But my collection may have some holes in it and be useless to you...

No worries.
Condition is negligible. I'm not looking for the entirety of the Zero Hour re-boot in 1994.
So, by my research, that's Legionnaires 19-74 (I should add I need the first 18 issues as well) and LoSH (1989 Series) 55-62 (the last seven issues of the Five Year Gap) and then 63-125.

Traditionally what happened is:
RJ Brande was on a passenger cruiser to Earth and Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, and Lightning Lad, all strangers to one another, used their powers to stop the assassination. Brande then persuaded them to band together and he provided them funding and thus the Legion was born.

Although a more general raison d'être, especially with the new legion, is that they're a bunch of youths pissed off with how the adults are running things and they decide to follow in the footsteps of their idols. Yes. Batman and the Outsiders. But it wasn't really that big of a deal.
They are spirits now and apparently can pull a Deadman now. Inhabiting other bodies. It's cool to "see" them around...but Hock is right...should be in a better book. BATO is kind of a mess right now...pretty art...but a mess of a story.

I think the main problem with the book is that it has no "hook" if you will. There is really nothing about it that seperates it from the other DCU team super hero books. The writing and art is also average. It's not a bad book, but it's just not overly memorable in it's writing or artwork. It reminds me a bit of Exiles at Marvel, it's a book with solid art and solid (if old-school) writing, but there just isnt enough for me to go "Wow, new issue out today". Batman and The Outsiders needs to define it's identity more.

I think DC is really leaving money on the table. The Question and The Dibneys: Ghost Detectives were two of the best things to emerge from 52. In the hands of the right writer, each could make for a fantastic ongoing (or at the very least, a series of limited series).

I think a 2-3 issue mini-series of The Dibneys: Ghost Detectives would be perfect to start things off with. Tell a good story, a mystery - get people interested. Something like that might lure more people than an on-going. Some of the minis feel more padded being 8 or 9 issues...I'm more hesitant to buy them these days.
Justice League International Vol 1 HC - 6.5/10 - Let me preface by saying I LOVE Giffen's version of the Justice League. I started buying with JLE#1 and Justice League America #37 with the Teasdale Imperative crossover and I was totally hooked. I've never read the early issues so I was very excited to see DC putting out the first 7...and a 2nd volume is coming shortly!!! :boogie: I've heard praises about this series first year or so...but I still think the issues that I collected were a lot more fun. These are okay, most of the characters come off a bit annoying. I can wait to read the issues with the Blue and Gold team in full form, Fire and Ice, and J'onn with his Oreo fetish!
Teen Titans #3 - 8/10 - How come Amy Wolfram's name isn't on the cover?? DC screwed up with this and the recent Birds of Prey...having Gail's name on the cover instead of Sean. The art here is the big draw though. I love the colors and the renditions of most of the characters. Aqualad is still very creepy! The story isn't original but it is enjoyable and has it humorous parts. I want to read more of the Original Titans by this team somewhere down the road!!
Suicide Squad #7 - 8.5/10 - Ostrander should be writing Checkmate! Or at least an on-going Suicide Squad series. He gets the characters - he gets the feel of the book. Here's to Deadshot kicking mucho ass in the next and final issue!
Green Lantern Corps #22 - 5/10 - Really just an average issue here. I was hoping Gates would explore more of Boodika's new personality as an Alpha Lantern here...as she confronts the rogue GL who just happens to be her sister. We don't get to see too much though...just a fairly straight-forward battle. The Alpha Lanterns are definitely a force to be reckoned with...and I'm expecting them to eventually go the way of the Manhunters as a force the GLs will have to confront. I don't really get the "gifts" given to Boodika by the Guardians...a 2nd ring and a badge? I'm hoping Gates isn't around next issue as writer...because it looks like things may potentially hit the fan for the GL Corps with Mongul!
Batman and the Outsiders #5 - 2/10 - I love the art by Julian Lopez and colors by Marta Martinez but the story is very underwhelming as Batman and the Outsiders spend the issue breaking into a facility. I know it has something to do with the OMACs but I honestly have no clue exactly what. Maybe I'm not paying as much attention as I should here. Dixon has a nice bunch of characters on this team but it's too much Batman for my liking. If this group is supposed to be the guys the villains don't necessarily think of as heroes...then Batman as Field Leader seems a bit odd. I'd rather he be behind the scenes coordinating the action. Oh yeah, a pair of spirits announce their return...although it's not as fun as it should have been! Plus, I don't like the little comment about Ollie being more of a dog than we previously thought!!
And now an oldie that I've just now read...
Superman/Batman #1-6 - 9/10 - This was a lot more fun than I thought it would be!! I remember scanning through the pages in the LCS when they first came off and thought it was too silver-agey. But I was wrong and really enjoyed what Loeb and McDuffie pulled off here!

It hasn't lost as many readers since the second issue as it did between the first and second issues. It hasn't gained readers, but I'd argue those numbers aren't all that bad, all things considered.
I think the sales on an ongoing might be different. I think there's a feeling by some that this current mini doesn't really count for anything because it's only 8 issues and it's not tied into the Countdown / Final Crisis fooferah. Some may have stayed away for that reason. A bigger, open-ended launch might have fared better.

Suicide Squad started slow, but it became a lot of fun later on. I wouldn't mind seeing an ongoing. We know Checkmate won't last long.

121 - SUICIDE SQUAD: RAISE THE FLAG
01/2002: Suicide Squad #5 — 18,194*
—————————————–
09/2007: Raise the Flag #1 of 8 — 29,506
10/2007: Raise the Flag #2 of 8 — 22,774 (-22.8%)
11/2007: Raise the Flag #3 of 8 — 19,774 (-13.2%)
12/2007: Raise the Flag #4 of 8 — 18,025 (- 8.9%)
01/2008: Raise the Flag #5 of 8 — 17,094 (- 5.2%)
That makes me a sad panda

Way too much Rick Flag and Rustam.
It's still a class comic. Unlike a lot of the old guard, Ostrander's definitely still got it. How was Bruce Jones allowed to touch Checkmate while Ostrander's around?

That's pretty standard though (i think).
I'm sure an on-going would have lasted a little bit longer, but no way it would have seen more than 20.

It really sucks that Blue Beetle and Checkmate will end their brilliant runs with sub-par creative teams. :(

Honestly, I don't see why they don't just end Checkmate when Rucka leaves. Same with Shadowpact when Willingham bailed.
I'm not saying they're bad books, but they were basically their pet projects.

I agree about Checkmate, but not so much with Shadowpact. Willingham and Sturges work together so much that the book really doesn't feel much different under Sturges than it did under Willingham. In fact, I'm beginning to believe that Willingham successfully cloned himself.

:miffed: I've been enjoying Batman and the Outsiders. It's not excellent, but it's certainly not bad.
Lonesomefool's right. It's not a bad book, but it's pretty generic. Maybe if Batman had a specific mission for the team (like infiltration the Salvation planet) it'd work better.
I think DC is really leaving money on the table. The Question and The Dibneys: Ghost Detectives were two of the best things to emerge from 52. In the hands of the right writer, each could make for a fantastic ongoing (or at the very least, a series of limited series).
I don't know about an ongoing, but I'd be all over a mini. I think Rucka would do a solid job with it.
It really sucks that Blue Beetle and Checkmate will end their brilliant runs with sub-par creative teams. :(
Well Pfiefer might only be on for a little bit. At least I hope.

Yeah, Shadowpact changed hands pretty seamlessly, and it wasn't ready to end. I'm glad it got those extra ten issues.

Sorry dude. Rogers will never make it back.
BB's already selling lower than Shadowpact (already cancelled), and the next 3 months are:
The spanish issue (w/no Albequerque)
Pfeifer and Albequerque for one ish
Pfiefer and no Albequerque (and a solicit that is basically "A bunch of monsters show up.")
This book is done. I'm so glad I already dropped it.

Why?
The book's incredible main storyarc is coming to an end with #25 this week. I imagine most people will take that as a good jumping-off point.

Maybe not Rogers, but it wouldn't suprise me if they put someone else on it in say 3 issues. Rogers made it seem like someone else was going to be the writer.

But the Morrison signing has a $200 fee:(
Neil Gaiman is who has me the most pumped, easy. Too bad I don't have that $500 for the meet & greet. It'd be worth it. I've been reading a ton of his stuff as of late.
