Winick and Didio do it again:
A fan asked about the upcoming Judd Winick/Ian Churchill Titans title, and DiDio equated it to the show Friends, and how it's about the relationship and friendship between the characters.
Is that not one of the worst sales pitches you've ever heard?

I sense lots of "Starfire's a slut" jokes, Beast Boy being reverted back to frat-boy personality, many references to Raven being "goth" or "emo", and Nightwing being portrayed as an uptight Cyclops rip-off with daddy issues. LOL

Bingo.
These feel like perfect little examples of how Didio doesn't get it. He runs these things like focus groups. You can't simply find little formulas to make your books successful.
edit:
DiDio ended the panel with a quick survey of the audience, asking them how long they'd been reading comics, which resulted in a wide variety of answers.
WTF?

I love the fact that even the fans at DC panels look like they're starting to turn a little:
DiDio asked the audience about Jim Shooter's current Legion of Super-Heroes - who was reading it and if they liked it. A fan that indicated he wasn't satisfied said that he liked what Mark Waid and Barry Kitson were doing, and was disappointed so far about the Shooter run. Another fan said it was "really flat."
This led to DiDio asking fans about their favorite Aquaman - the original, the Peter David harpoon-hand Aquaman, and the current Arthur Curry Aquaman. None of the three received too warm of a reception.
DiDio then asked fans if DC could publish a comic called "Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes," who would buy it. "You got the name back?" an audience member quipped. "I said if we could do it," DiDio responded. "I don't want any more rumors starting." The response to the question from the audience was lukewarm, with only a few hands being raised before DiDio moved on.

Well as I was saying, one isn't because Levitz is a whiner. :)
I'm with you on Ex Mach though. I've said for a while that WS should shut down, make Ex Mach Vertigo, and release WS properties as specials and mini-series under the DC banner. They've folded the universes together. Just slap a WSU logo on the covers under the DC one. People who know comics enough to follow WS won't be confused.

thats a good idea actually and might actually revitalize the WS imprint briefly at least. At this point there is no reason to even have wildstorm. When Freddy vs Jason vs Ash is one of your breakout hits of your superhero universe you have problems.

100% correct on all points. Maybe we should just start ignoring each other in political threads. We're on an agreement streak lately. :)
I was talking to ashwin about this the other day. He was saying something along the lines of bringing Joe Casey back, and letting Gage do more stuff, while waiting for Morrison's scripts to get back on track. And while I think Casey and Gage are both fine writers, the numbers lately just prove that without a name as BIG as Morrison with Lee or Ha, there's 0 interest.
If you really wanna get people back into the WSU, you just gotta let it go away for a while. When Morrison, Lee, and Ha have a bunch of stuff in the can (no matter how long it takes) bring it back. Until then, just stop for a while.

Yeah, I would imagine he's not helping things either.
Regardless of your personal feelings on The Boys, it was one of the few bright spots in the WS line. I find it quite hard to believe Levitz had nothing to do with how things went down there.
It was a bright spot at WS...but I could see how they were scared by that second arc. That just screamed too much of gay bashing amongst the characters...and then Ennis trying to force feed us that in actuality, it's not. I'd imagine there would have been a big stink about it, with more media attention if it came from one of the big 2 companies.

True, but I'd say the ratio's been awful lop-sided lately.
Oh totally
DC is pretty much crossing their fingers that Final Crises works out
This issue really is a mess. The story's going in all sorts of wierd directions, and very few of them makes sense. First up, Green Arrow wears a fat suit and Black Canary plays his gun moll as they interrogate a crime lord about some kind of massive airship that they think shot Connor. Wait, but I thought Connor was shot by Killer Cloud because he used to be a Titan. So there's two Killer Clouds now? Ollie occasionally throws fits(and chairs) out of frustration because they have no leads as to who took Connor's comatose body. Then, the giant airship starts chasing them. A really big, over-the-top car chase scene ensues, and ends with Ollie taking the engines out with arrows, causing the entire thing to crash down in a spectacular explosion. And when they open the cockpit, they find...little grey aliens? Okay then. This makes less and less sense with each passing issue. At least Cliff Chiang is back on art duties, making it look pretty at the very least. Too bad he's almost gone, and Winick is staying on.
Dude - this is 10x stronger than any Supergirl comic put out in the last half year easily. It's kind of scary how confused you're getting with the Titans East Special. You assumed this was the same villain behind it all...but if you look at the whole power level...you'll notice the difference. Me thinks you're reading too many comics.

Aaaaand like I said yesterday, there was more than 3 jumping ship from DC.
Dodson is now Marvel exclusive.
DC=Boned.
None of those four losses hurt DC in any meaningful way.
Dodson wasn't exactly turning WW into a best-seller. We won't see any drop with Lopresti on board.
McKone wasn't doing enough work to really make an impact(although that's DC's fault more than anything).
Sale is a package deal with Loeb, and this is a foregone conclusion.
Kelly wasn't doing much of anything for DC.
Considering the prognostications of utter doom from some people, this is no big deal.

HOLY FUCK!
Lot of good stuff. Manhunter is back! Trinity sounds sweet! WTF is Batman trapped in on the FInal Crisis #2 cover? A apokolips machine?
That looks like the best DC month ever. Magnificent.

The fact is, DC can't afford to lose anybody that sells books.
Sale and Dodson absolutely can sell books on their name alone, especially Sale.

....But Sale wasn't selling books for DC. He basically only works with Loeb.
That's why I don't consider this a blow. Because they essentially lost him with Loeb, and it was just a matter of time waiting for his contract to run out.
McKone is really the biggest loss here. I have no clue how they didn't give him an ongoing the second he could.

I'm sorry, but if a company has two villains with a description of "cloud that shoots people" in books by the same writer, but they aren't the same villain, something's more than a little off.

Ariana would be sweet. But wouldn't everyone critize Dixon for using a character that's been out of the "Robin Limelight" for years now?
Plus what the fuck would make Ariana not want to grow up to be a butcher and be a vigilante instead?

I think it would be pretty easy to write something in about it turning out that Uncle Vari had some ties to the russian mob(his...disposition wouldn't make it a stretch).
He was killed during the War Games, and she dedicated herself to taking down Gotham's organized crime scene. At least, that's what I would do if I was tasked with making Ariana the new Spoiler. All the pieces point to Stephanie, though.

DiDio then asked Cooke what he's working on. Cooke said Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray have been asking him to do a Jonah Hex comic book with them, and at San Diego last year, Cooke said he'd only do it if they came up with a script that took Hex to Canada - and they did, so that'll be coming out at some point.

I meant she tied him up and left, and then he was still there five hours later.
I know I was just making fun of how he would last 5 minutes since he said "ONLY five hours?" :)
Diary? Trenchcoat?
It's my fantasy dammit!
Oh don't hide it, Sasha.

Well, DC delivers another underwhelming con performance.
Robinson JL, and not a whole lot else. Not even some new art @ the Crisis panel.
And seriously, just make him the JLA writer. Stop launching new books constantly, make the ones you already have worthwhile.

Yeah, and it's not like they didn't have some stuff to show. I'm sure they could have shown some art from Trinity or revealed the artist of Robinson JL. Maybe some more Gaydos art from Manhunter.

Holy crap! If they put a decent artist on it, I may actually have to buy that JL series.
That 90-year-old Bill guy is this dude:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congo_Bill
That's awesome.
Yes. I've noticed. It's not the first nor the last time though...
I know. The guy goes around making wacky claims like "There's a killer cloud going after Titans. It went after them in the Titans East special and in GA/BC" And then when shown he was wrong, and that connor was never a Titan, he doesn't have the decency to retract. :nonono2:
Eh, I didn't read those comics.
I still maintain that DC having two villains that kill via cloud appearing within months of each other by the same writer is just absurd.
Were not saying it isn't absurd.
But you were the one insisting Connor was actually a Titan.
In other news I'm dropping GA/BC

i liked the countdown panel.
at least more than the DCU Panel.
GL leadin' the league, Shadowpact in Reign in Hell, Jimmy Olsen becoming more than a sidekick and Jason Todd in the upcoming Hush storyline.
wonder when we're gunna hear news about Teen Titans.
McKeever's askin' us what Titans we'd like to see on the team has me anticipatin' the arc after this clock king/ terror titans thing.
