I'm into at least five or six of those things.

And the fact that professional wrestling isn't on there is a joke.

Monty Python is geekier than about half of those, by far. :mistrust:

I'm sorry but there is NOTHING geekier than Monty Python. The worst part of workin in a comic shop was geeks and there Monty Python bits. The fucking accents! Can you not do the accent! If the bit isn't funny without the accent maybe it's just not that funny.

1. Star Trek
2. Renaissance faires
3. Fantasy sports leagues
4. Michael Jackson
5. Wikipedia
6. Battlestar Galactica
7. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
8. Joss Whedon
9. Media-specific role-playing
10. Magic – The Gathering
11. World of Warcraft
12. The Simpsons
13. Dr. Who
14. Frank Zappa
15. Game-show tape trading (WTF??!)
16. Anime
17. Cosplay
18. Live action role-playing
19. Second Life/MySpace/Facebook
20. Fanfic

Wow…I’m not too bad. Only 2 on the list. Some of them, like Whedon and The Simpsons, are things that I have a passing interest in (Whedon for Astonishing X-Men, and Simpsons if I’m around to catch an episode), but nowhere near the point of obsession. Fanfic I’m slightly guilty of, though I’ve only written a couple of things as a sort of ‘exercise’ in exploring character development, and never read the stuff…so, I don’t consider it any sort of obsession, or even a ‘hobby’.

The only two things I’m guilty of having a deep love for are the top two – the rest are of no real interest to me. I don't go to Trek convensions, however...but I do dress up for Ren Faires. So...yeah, that's probably my guiltiest nerdy pleasure on the list.

But it IS that funny. It's just people's overquoting and not just doing a line here and there (but the whole damn routine) that ruins it. Also the fact that it seems people only ever quote The Holy Grail. There are just so many other (better) quotes that could be used, use them, Python fans!

I would say Ren fairs are geekier than Monty Python myself.

Python isn't geeky - it's cool. Epic. Can't be touched by the naysayers or the geek-bashers.

I know that it's funny but I'll never be able to laugh at it again. It's like if you go to the public pool and drink a bunch of Yoohoo and end up throwing it all up right beside the kiddie pool. You just can't stomach Yoohoo anymore. Your mind rationally knows it's a delicious as chocolate flavored water can be but emotionally you cringe at the sight of it.

Also, why is the Simpsons on that list? The Simpsons can get you laid. It's one of those things that boys and girls enjoy equally. A good conversation about The Simpsons can be the common ground that leads to a sweet, sweet blow J.
It has happened and will happen again. Star Trek will never get you blown. Monty Python will never get you blown. The Simpsons might. And if f it gets you blown, it can't be that geeky.

So I like Simpsons and anime? I think that anime is pretty mainstream with it's exposure now. And I am totally not sure how Simpsons is even close to something geeky.

Anime is waaaay too far down.

I'm guilty of 4 1/2. Only because a lot of my friends are cosplayers and I'm an enabler.

Star Trek, have participated in Media Specific Role Player quite a bit, was a WoW zombie for more than a year, and Doctor Who.

I like the Simpons and I like facebook... but neither are anything I'm obsessed with. The rest of the list? None for me.

That said, I don't know whether to be relieved or upset that They Might Be Giants didn't make the cut.

Only two for me, too. Battlestar Galactica and Facebook. Frankly, the "trump card" is comics. Comics are the "ultimate nerd hobby".

I was a Whedon obsessive, but I didn't watch Firefly until DVD and I haven't watched an episode of any of his series in a long time, so I guess I'm not hardcore enough. I watch the Simpsons when I can. I've seen all of the original Star Trek, but I wouldn't call myself a Trekkie. It's just that DVD makes it easy. I know some cosplayers and role players, etc. It's weird that they think of themselves as not being as nerdy as I am.

1. Star Trek-I'll count myself because I like TNG a lot and have the PAD new frontier series, but I'm not a die hard trekker
2. Renaissance faires
3. Fantasy sports leaguesI'm part of the bendis league but only there.
4. Michael Jackson I like thriller and off the wall
5. WikipediaI use it often and have an account, but haven't ever written an article that wasn't taken down
7. The Rocky Horror Picture ShowI used to enjoy it and have been to about 5 or 6 showings. Though I've never sat in the "fifth row"
8. Joss Whedonbig fan, have picked up all of his stuff,
10. Magic – The GatheringI got into it 2 years ago, but am giving my cards to my roommate when I move.
11. World of Warcraft
12. The Simpsons used to be a huge fan, but I can't remember the last time I didn't watch an episode just because it was on.
13. Dr. Who I like the new series but not as much as some people
16. Anime I like a few, but they more often than not are placed in my hands by otaku than anything
17. Cosplaymy booster costume notwithstanding, no
18. Live action role-playing-oh hell no
19. Second Life/MySpace/FacebookI have accounts but they are so basic
20. Fanfic does reading the occasional slash count :D
Being objective I'd say I'm a whedonite and that's it.

I actually hit on only 1 of those, either I'm not a geek or I'm getting old. Big fan of that Simpson one, I have 2 friends that endlessly quote that aged show and piss and moan when I say it stinks. Sweet vindication from an internet article!

a lot of those things can lead to sweet lovin', though. you have to find the ones where the girls are, and be a reasonably confident and hygienic individual.

i know a lot of guys who've gotten laid from going to rocky horror, or mentioning that they're whedon fans, for example.

Relieved.
The AV Club actually manages to treat comics as a media as legitimate as film and music without being distressingly highbrow or sniggering.

Just Star Trek for me. And that's only TNG/DS9 plus the movies, I don't touch the books. I'm guess I'm just not that nerdy =/

Oh, no, I'm not arguing that. In fact I don't find "The Knights who say Ni" funny at all anymore. I mean, not even a little. I'd love to... but I can't.

Also the Spanish Inquisition. Now I seem to only get laughs at the more obscure Python bits (which I won't bother quoting here for fear of ruining them.).

Also, check out their albums if you ever get a chance. There's a surprising amount of hidden information there.

Also, how can Dungeons and Dragons NOT be on this list? WAY nerdier than Python (no disrespect to the D&D nerds. It is fun. But it's nothing to obsess over.).
