View Full Version : Question for any Stargate fans out there...

Okay - as some of you know, I just got hooked on Atlantis. I've never watched SG1, and have seen bits and pieces of SGA - probably half the episodes already aired. So, needless to say, there is a LOT I don't know. So...I have this impression about certain characters in the show, and I'd like to know if my impression is correct, or not...so I thought I'd ask....

The Ancients - they were a buncha pricks, right?

Not so much "pricks" as.... uh.... yeah. Yeah actually. Pricks sums most of them up pretty well.

From everything we've gleaned about The Ancients, they seem to have been a very high and mighty bunch of dicks. And from what I can tell, other than creating the network of stargates, they weren't "All That".

Hell, the Asgard are truly high and mighty, but they don't act like total dicks for the most part.

Weeeellll...that kinda helps explain Sheppard, too, with his Ancient genes and all....

More like are, actually. They did a lot of cool shit when they were corporeal (although they could have left a bigger stockpile of ZPMs around), but after ascending they decided to go the "non-interference" route. This, at one point, led to Anubis killing the entire population of Abydos.

That don't make them dicks. They are at the point where any action of theirs can really alter the natural order of things. I can appreciate why they would do this.

I have only seen a couple Ancient-related episodes - just watched Before I Sleep, the one where Weir went back in time to save her team. I just wanted to punch those Ancients in the mouth.

On the positive side, their dickiness just makes my love for the Wraith even stronger. :D

Yeah, but I think Das is talking about the couple of times we see the Ancients as they were before they ascended. They were kinda dickish.

It was their fault in the first place that Anubis had the power to do that. I can understand staying out of independent problems, but they won't even clean up their own messes. They took out Daniel's Ancient knowledge when they forcibly descended him, but they left Anubis alone to do as he wished - they aren't even fair about it.

There is that. I cant quite remember how Anubis became an ascended though. I know that female that helped Daniel ascend also helped him. I am guessing he was in control of a host body when it happened? Isn't he( Anubis) the reason she was on the outs with the rest of the Ancients?

Also, I thought the Ancients did not let him use his powers to any crazy extents...

Yeah - before they ascended. Super dicks. Glad the Wraith did what they did...at least they have a sense of humor. I mean, if I had to live in a world with a buncha arrogant assholes, I'd rather be with ones who at least will make me laugh, even if they're sucking the life out of me at the same time...

....kinda like...here...

Well, yeah they were pretty full of themselves. They must have gotten past most of that though in order to ascend.

No.
He was a Gahould(sp) they are a race off snake like aliens that have used humans and one other race as hosts. they take over the bodies by inserting themselves at the base of the neck and wrap themselves around your spinal column.

He was the God Ra.

You talking about Ra, from the original movie?

No, he was just a Goa'uld. All the Goa'uld were just technology thieves.

Learn something new everyday....like...

I'm up on my Vincent Price movies! I loved The Tingler - used to be one of those fun rainy Saturday afternoon movies to curl up on the sofa and watch. Haven't seen it in years, though...

Did you not know what the G'aould were until that post? I know you don't know much about SG-1, but I figured that much would have gotten to you by now.

Oh, no - I knew who they were. I know a tiny bit about SG1 - NOT much. One thing I DO know is that SG1 doesn't have hawt life-sucking bugmen...which is probably why it never caught my attention. Oh, and no Ronon, either...second best thing next to the bugmen. At least until next season when, as I understand it, he might get a new hairdo. If they lop off those dreads, then I just might have to start looking at Sheppard...which is gonna hurt really, really bad. :p

Johnny - you watch SGA, too, or just a fan of the first? You know Teal'c is in an upcoming episode?
