Its about time Shawn and O'Hara go on a date. Or for Gus to get a woman.
Something new.

And I want to see Shawn's dead mom. I think she's dead isn't she?

I love this show. I agree Shawn needs to hook up with O'Hare.

I'm glad they finally let go of the constant police cases they tagged along on and let them breathe on some stuff not police related.

It's a goofy formula show. I enjoy it. I wouldn't look for any real advancement in the characters, though. I don't think that's the kind of show it's trying to be.

I mean, Monk never gets to make any real progress with his anxiety disorders (or if he does he's tragically set back) for the same reason. To maintain the formula.

FUN FACT: A few months ago it was filming about 4 blocks from my apartment building and I met the token black guy from West Wing.

I was hoping when the showed the season previews that Gus was getting legitimately married. That would be fun.

I know I shouldn't expect it, but that doesn't mean I don't want it. Its so much fun I think they could shake things up without having it backfire.

Psych is one of those shows where every time I watch an episode I find myself laughing uncontrollably at least once an episode. But I don't ever end up watching it on a regular basis, or even have any real desire to do so.

Burn Notice was the same way, I really enjoyed it the few times I watched it, but don't really care if I never see it again.

And yet, I love both when I can watch them on my own terms.

They're both shows that I didn't think I would like on paper, but the great casts have me hooked in.

Still enjoying it. As someone said, it's not a complicated formula, but it's the strong cast who make it work.

On a side note, anyone know how many episodes we're getting during the current run? In other words, was this affected by the writer's strike, or did they get all the episodes written beforehand?

I loved those little commercial crossovers between Monk, Psych, and Dead Zone. (too bad Dead Zone is gone...though it's probably for the better)

I agree that Monk and Psych really need to do a crossover. In opposition to your idea, I could see an episode where Monk is trying to prove Shawn isn't a psychic, but Shawn keeps finding ways to use Monk's phobias to keep him from actually proving it. Seriously...both characters are literally foils for each other...it could lead to a lot of hilarity.

Okay, that out of the way, I really dug the faux-slasher film idea. Good episode.

Just really started watching this, didn't like it at first but it's begun to grow on me.

Same here - I didn't like it when it first started, but it seems they have found their rhythm, and now the show is growing on me, too. (I still like The Mentalist better, though... ;) )

No, but you just reminded me I need to get it. I think I'll buy it and read it around May, so the wait until Season 4 doesn't seem as long!

I thought the Finale was good, very dramatic for a Psych ep but it worked. Also I hope RLC comes back. I've always had a thing for her...

I'm about 60 pages in to the second book. I'd say its average so far. No really funny moments yet (unlike the first book which had quite a lot)

Finished the second book a little earlier today. I'd say it was average overall (so it looks like my opinion didn't change :) ) A little slow to build up but it picks up in the latter part of the book with some really funny moments. she's going to be recurring all season long, they couldn't afford her in every episode so they're going to mention Abbey a lot without actually having her onscreen.

It's not like she probably had too many other offers, she's getting too old for teen movies and it's probably a good paycheck

The scene when Shawn and Gus are playing cards - that was a riot, too. This was the funniest ep I've seen yet...just perfect.

It's better than the start to season two was. The only thing really missing this season is more of his psychic episodes, because when he does them, they are perfect and hilarious. But they just don't show up as much as they did the first(and not coincidentally the best) season. I also wouldn't mind seeing more of both Rachel Leigh Cook as Abilgail, and more of Jules. I started out really liking The Mentalist, but it's too schizo for me - light one minute, painfully dark the next - no consistency. And a couple of the actors are starting to wear on me. Psych might have a weak ep every now and then, but the show itself has no identity crisis - it is consistently entertaining where it counts.

It was a very good episode though. I'm not a wrestling fan ( I did appreciate the Kamala reference from my younger days though) but I liked how Cena seemed to have a sense of humor about himself by taking the role.

Huh, where the hell did my earlier post go??? Strange.

Anyway, I thought was easily one of the WORST episodes of the show's entire run. Very crap-a-licious to say the least. Jona Cena might be man things, but an Actor he is not...

We did get some Rachel Leigh Cook in a bra. That was quite nice. Also the running gag about Gus' name was pretty funny. Other than that the show felt totally off.

I liked it, but...then again...I'm pretty easy. :D

I think that the tone was a bit off because of the break-up stuff (or whatever you wanna call it) - it was a real 'serious' moment in a show that usually shies away from it. But the relationship stuff was my least favorite part of this ep. I want to see the relationship between Gus and Shawn, afterall...they are like an old married couple. Bringing women into their lives is just annoying to me, takes some of the fun out of things. In fact, I'm wondering how it will play out next week.

I think it oaves the way for Shawn to chase Juliet again. I was surprised that Shawn didn't have more of a reaction when Ewen said his sister liked him on the dock at the end.
I like your point about Shawn and Gus. The first thing he said when Abby mentioned going with her was "Gus is here...Psych is here".

Glad the show's back, but too much John Cena... The times they were focusing on his point of view felt almost as bad as when Married With Children would shift from the family to one of their shitty spin-off ideas.

Mr. Observant can't see what's right under his nose? I think there has to be some point to this...some revelation or awakening. I also think it's amusing that he doesn't seem to see it.

My niece and my sister both have trouble watching Psych because Shawn reminds them TOO much of my husband. Of course, my mom always said that my husband reminded her of Ray Barone/Romano. Maybe he's some sort of mutant cross between the two. But my point is that the way Shawn and Gus act together is often the same way my husband and I act together...which means, I suppose, that I'm Gus. :D

What was the The Mentalist impersonation???

When he said, "He's not lying. His lip is completely still, there's no sweat on the forehead, fingers aren't trembling."

That's all Mentalist - how he determines when someone is lying, or not. Not sure if Shawn has done that before (I have missed a number of eps in the past), but when he did it, I didn't think of Shawn, but immediately thought of Patrick Jane. Perhaps it was his whispery delivery, too.

At least that line - "You're so distracted by Ruby, and her boobs..." - pays tribute to them. :)

I loved this episode, and consider it to be the best one in some time. They've been bordering on self parody this season and last, and while its had funny moments its been by and large pure fluff.

I hope the show continues to go in this direction. Expand on characters other than Shawn and Gus, tone down on the 80s jokes, etc.

I do think that this episode had two problems- the super obvious plot is one. I kinda wish the badguy would have just given up at the end. It would have deprived us of a funny fight scene, but it would have been more original and honest feeling.

And Shawn has really given up even sorta pretending to be psychic half the time.

Still, this and last weeks episode have been an upswing for sure.

Unlike Family Guy though, Psych has established Shawn and Gus's pop culture references as part as their character's evolution. After all, they grew up together from childhood. I do the same thing with many of my older friends, and that's what makes it believable and relevant in the show's context.

The pop culture references are what I love about the show - adds this little MST3Kish feel to it. I love shows that do it, too...like NCIS (which uses a lot of comic book references). It helps make me feel in on the joke, and that draws me into the show.

well the play and Psych are just about the most opposite things I can watch an actor do in one night.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF THE PLAY EXTINCTION

The play ends with a coked out and drunk James Roday raping a girl! woohoo!

Maggie Lawson dyed her hair brown and she looked stunning in person! I've always found her cute on the show but she was a major babe tonight. and Dule was stylin! We overheard where the afterparty was being held, but we didn't wanna be party crashers... to make matters worse, the play and afterparty are all within 2 blocks of my apartment. I might start taking my dog out for walks around the theater to see if I can run into James Roday

anyway, good episode of psych tonight! the ending was a bit frustrating though- but i guess it means we should get at least a little more closure on the subject by the end of this season?
