Fucking nuts. I mean, geez-- the guy was only 28 years old.
Boy, that Batman movie is sure gonna be weird to watch now, huh?

I've been thinking about this - and ...I'm not sure. Because he's in that crazy makeup, I might be able to lose myself in the character, and forget who the actor is underneath.
But...years ago hubby and I really loved the movie, Sneakers. River Phoenix was in that one, and - after his death - it was really hard to watch that movie again. And I wasn't even a fan of his. But - because he was so young and all - I just felt sad to see him on the screen. It took a while, but eventually that feeling wore off, and I can enjoy that movie again like I once did...but who knows how I'll feel about the new Batman flick.
It might put me off, I dunno. Of course, I'm not a fan of Christian Bale, either - so he puts me off anyway...heh. I didn't care for Batman Begins, maybe I'll simply HATE TDK, unless, of course...someone can convince me that Bale isn't as sucky as I think he is (which in of itself sucks big time, since Batman is the only DC character I have ever liked).

For me, it'll be a bit of a yes and no thing.
No, because I'm used to watching movies that came out after the star (or a star) died. I'm a huge martial arts movie fan, so between Bruce and Brandon Lee alone, I'm used to seeing and loving a movie even though I know that it was the last thing they made and never got to see it when it was finished, and in Brandon's case, actually cost him his life.
But then I think yes, because unlike Brandon, which was a complete accident (conspiracy theories aside for the moment), it would seem that playing the Joker really messed with Ledger's head. As I remember reading it, "getting into the head of that psycho" affected his sleeping, hence the reason he was on the sleeping pills he was taking. The role really got to him, so for that alone, it'll be really weird.
I mean, Brandon Lee getting shot was unforeseen, but a physical accident. Not to sound callous, because I don't mean to be, but shit happens. THAT kind of thing you don't expect, but when it happens you think... "Well yeah, shocking but fuck. Accidents happen. I'm amazed it doesn't happen more often". But this... if you believe what's been said, then this happened because he needed something to help him sleep because a role affected him mentally. That's just something that I won't be able to get out of my head.

Have you watched Equilibrium, Machinist (I still canīt believe what he put his body through for this role!) and/or American Psycho? Heīs a great actor.

Haven't seen those, but saw a couple others - Batman Begins, for one...and...the Prestige...parts of something else. The guy just leaves me feeling flat. No personality, or something. And I HAVE tried to like the guy - no reason I shouldn't. But - so far - he's not been able to make me feel any sort of emotional connection to the characters he portrays, which - for me - is essential for my enjoyment of a movie. I have to feel SOMETHING for the characters, and he hasn't been able to do it for me. But hey - that's my tastes. I think my bugmen are sexy hot, and most guys here find Bale sexy hot. So, now we know what appeals to men, and what appeals to women...and why you guys don't get laid more often... :D

I'll give it a try if I see it around. How old is it?
I gotta admit to being very picky about what works for me - but I have been known to find that connection I'm looking for on a second, third, or even fourth viewing of a film or body of work before finding that character connection. So, one never knows...took me three seasons of Atlantis before I suddenly was hooked on the Wraith, and I never liked George Clooney until I saw O Brother, Where Art Thou - then suddenly I said to myself, 'Hey, this guy isn't so horrible afterall.'
So, I haven't given up on Bale - just waiting for that one thing that'll work for me, and make his characters worth watching on the screen.
Thanks for the recommendation!

The Machinist is from 2004; Equilibrium from 2002.

Very sorry to hear of his passing. I still haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, though my partner loves it and we have it on DVD. And yeah, it's going to be weird as hell seeing him in his last role... :-?

Just that as I was watching it, I was thinking what a shame it was we'd never see him play that role again.
By the way, if he doesn't get nominated, someone should get shot.
