I went in knowing very little about this musical. I knew it was the Wicked Witch of the West's story, but that's it. I wasn't familiar with the music, any major plot points, and I LOVED IT!
The first act finale "Defy Gravity" was amazing! The lead really belted the tune out and wowed the audience.
Has anyone else seen the musical? I know the book is very different and it even seems to contradict the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Baum, but I really liked how they tied everything together and the happy, fairy tale ending.

I liked that transition where she "flys". They really did well with the special effects.

I've never seen the show, but I hate the score.
Wicked seems like the most popular Broadyway show from the past 5 years or so--lots of teenage girls obsessed with it.

Loved loved love it!
Oddly people who have read the book first tend to not like the musical (they are quite different in tone) and people who see the musical first tend to find the book too dark!
Aparently the movie is in the works as a pseudo-prequel to The Wizard of Oz (not sure if the cast will stay the same).

I got tickets to see Wicked for my girlfriend for our anniversary. I've never seen anything on stage beyond a high school play so I wasn't expecting much. It's the story of the Wicked Witch and how she became "wicked". I love villans and I love fall from grace stories. I just thought it was a cool premise for a story.
This was a great story though. Not too much singing, a bit of action, and some grim stuff going on. I was so into the story. If I were to compare my enjoyment experience to any comic or movie I've seen, this was near the top of my list of great stories. And I'm not a musical fan.
I was so hyped for hit broadway musicals after that so I scored tickets to see Cats. It was awful! Barely any story, cats leaping arround for 20 minutes with no singing or plot, and the songs they did sing weren't that good. If i didn't pay so much for the tickets I would have walked out durring the intermission. So I think Wicked was a fluke and I'm still not a Broadway musical person.
So even if you don't like musicals this would be one to see.

Awesome! Glad to hear it. I got the soundtrack for my girlfriend and I'm taking her to see it next month. I was interested in it based on the plot alone, but I'm glad to hear it is good.
I saw the play a few months ago for the first time and thought it was great! From the acting to the musical scores to the "effects"...all very well done. And I felt the story was a lot better than the book.

I think you'd like Disney's Beauty & The Beast and The Lion King. Both have a story. I have no interest in seeing Cats; it looks stupid.
My wife and I are going to see Sweeney Todd; I'm hoping it's good, my wife is no waivering because she's not much into gory/bloody stuff.

Yeah, Cats is daft! haha
There are loads of good musicals though... 'Spring Awakening' is the best live thing I've seen in years - better than any play, musical or concert etc. 'Avenue Q' is drop dead hilarious. They're both still running on Broadway.

Any mention of this makes me think of my dad's fat wife.

I loved the book, but have yet to see the musical.
Just not a musical fan, though. Would this be the one to convert me?

I think so. I liked the book but loved the musical.

The show or the movie? The movie version of Sweeney Todd is slightly different.

It did, Phantom is now the longest running show on Broadway.
Which is interesting because both Cats and Phantom are steaming piles of crap.

Took my mom to see Wicked about 3 years ago on tour. Absolutely loved it.
But most Broadway plays are subjective. I myself can't stand Les Miserables but I know people who think its the best musical ever.
I've always had as my absolute fave the Will Rogers Follies.

The show, I thought I'd like to see it before the movie.

I like the plot and score of Phantom, though I hate how it was instrumental in the Broadway trend where the more money you put into a show, the more acclaim it got.
Cats is really horrible.

My sister scored front row tickets to see Wicked on Broadway for like 30 bucks a couple months ago. She loved it.

I really didn't like Wicked. It was an odd experience because clearly everyone in the theatre who wasn't releated to me was having the time of their lives, but my family was just confused by what others saw in the show. Great special effects? They raise her up on a podium while she's wearing a long dress and call it flying. Depth? The most profound thing the show has to say is "Girl power! Friends 4eva!!!!!" I like a couple of the songs, but overall, the show left me totally cold.
