So what do you guys watch? I have to admit, I watch a lot more TV than I ever did and it's all thanks to a little invention called the DVR. Honestly, I don't watch anything live anymore (except sports-- I CANNOT watch a sporting event taped. I feel like I'm just jerking myself off, knowing that I'm basically rooting for something that I could simply get the results from ESPN NEWS in like 5 minutes).

Here are the shows I regularly watch:

Lost
Heroes
Family Guy
American Dad
Dexter
The Shield
Simpsons
House
Smallville
Battlestar Gallactica
The Office
Mad Men
South Park
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles

And of course there's other things here and there, like some shows I'll pop in on now and again or the occasional stuff that interests me on History Channel or Discovery.

So how about you guys? Anything real good I'm missing?

Well...basically I watch CNN a lot (keep it on for background noise in the office)...and rugby. Lots and lots of rugby...with those sweaty, smelly great big blokes mauling all over one another...

Then...as far as tv shows go...

COPS
Stargate Atlantis
NCIS
Life (HOPE that comes back on soon!)
Monk

AAAAND...old movies on TCM. AAAAND...old Japanese movies on IFC. AAAND...any episode of Columbo I might stumble upon.

I watch other stuff now and then - used to love the Simpsons...but I lose interest in stuff quickly, and so...just don't think to watch it anymore. I'll catch stuff like CSI if I'm bored, and maybe something educational. Used to watch a lot of Mystery! on PBS, and BBC America...but just kinda got bored with all of that, too.

I've actually gone off watching stuff on tv and watch the shows I like on DVD now. With some shows, I find I enjoy them more being able to sit and watch a season in one go. I'm way behind on just about everything though :(

My main shows, most of which I'm a season or so behind on.

Stargate SG1
Stargate Atlantis
Doctor Who
Torchwood
Lost
Heroes (seen season 1)
The Shield (Ireland didn't get the 3rd season boxset until 3 months ago though, so I've only seen seasons 1 and 2 properly).
South Park
Smallville
Battlestar Galactica
Transformers Animated (because I've been a Transformers nerd from the day I was born and will be till the day I die :surrend: )

Here's what I usually watch:

The Office
Lost
Heroes (Season Two was quite a disappointment, I think I'm probably done with it).
Battlestar Galactica
South Park
Daily Show (which I haven't been watching since it's return. The first episode was horrible).
30 Rock
Scrubs
Pushing Daisies
Doctor Who
Transformers Animated
Psych

If you watch and 1 1/2 hours of the Fox Sunday animation comedy block, then I suggest going for the full 2 hours and watching King of the Hill. Maybe not as big a success of The Simpsons or Family Guy, but it's REALLy funny and something you wouldn't expect from the guy who did Beavis and Butt-head. ;)

I pretty much watch everything you listed except for Smallville, House and Mad Men.

I can't get into Smallville, and I must admit to not catching Mad Men yet. I will try it out soon though. I'm not a big House fan.

The Wire. Why aren't you watching The Wire?

I know, I know. People like Garth Ennis and Axel Alonso swear by it and tell me I would love it, but I always felt I was coming into the game in the 4th quarter, ya know? I know this is the last season, so maybe I'll have to pick up the whole thing on DVD when it comes out

King of the Hill is actually one of those shows I do catch on occasion-- along with 30 Rock-- and it's not necessarily like it's bad when I watch it (in fact, I probably enjoy it more than the Simpsons these days, if I'm going to be honest about it), but, I dunno, it's just not a "can't miss" for me, ya know?

To be honest, I probably mainly watch Smallville because I'm in the industry and I figure I should keep up with what people are doing with comic book properties in other media. It's hit or miss sometimes (sometimes the Clark/ Lana shit gets way too lovey dovey and makes me want to yak), but this season I think it's gotten better, for the most part

Catch Mad Men. Trust me-- you won't be sorry.

I watch House for Hugh Laurie. The guy's fucking brilliant

Mad Men was a great summer show. I felt I was getting lung cancer from just watching it if you know what I mean. January Jones (Betty) is drop dead gorgeous.

I got the first season of Tudors on DVD and I am getting into it. I might have to get Showtime for season two.

Ever seen any of the Bruce Timm DC animated programs? Since you're writing Gotham Underground you've have to at least seen the original 90's Batman animated series, which is still great watch today and puts the current cartoon series on the KidsWB to shame.

So how about you guys? Anything real good I'm missing?

Limiting it to just a few... some of the things my cub and I watch over coffee in the morning...

Coyote Ragtime (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coyote_Ragtime_Show)!
Dekaranger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dekaranger)!
X-Men Evolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_Evolution)! (just now discovered it)
Kekkaishi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kekkaishi)!
Kiba (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiba_%28anime%29)!
Tactics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactics_%28manga%29)!
Rosario + Vampire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosario_%2B_Vampire)!
Akihabara@Deep (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akihabara%40Deep)!
Densha Otoko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_man)!
Magiranger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magiranger)!
Absolutely anything by CLAMP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clamp_%28manga_artists%29)!
The current, creepier than prior versions and more authentically adapted Hakaba Kitarō (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hakaba_Kitarō)!
Majin Tantei Nōgami Neuro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majin_Tantei_Nōgami_Neuro)!

In all seriousness, I think you yourself might like Coyote Ragtime (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coyote_Ragtime_Show) and Cowboy Bebop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_Bebop). I think you might really like X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_%28manga%29), which is basically an end-of-the-world apocalyptic adventure.

No idea if you've even seen anime, but if you've only seen the dubbed stuff that makes it over here onto TV, for God's sake don't think you've seen the real thing!! When most stuff gets over here (and often the weakest stuff), they castrate half the plot, dub it really badly without the excellent Japanese voice acting, and take out anything which the presumed audience might find objectionable or even too complex. Stuff aimed at kids over there has so much stuff they cut out for older audiences here... heck, while it's not exactly R-rated over there (some anime really is), the US release of Power Rangers is actually a modified version (retaining some of the fight scenes and precious little else, including most of the plot) of a thirty-year tradition called sentai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Sentai) which has much more plot and character development than what makes it here. (It's fun, it's aimed at a young audience, but it's still much more complex than the US version.)

One thing I like about anime (but by definition the stuff which won't make it here on TV, alas) is the dizzying array of genres which just don't exist over here. (Remember, this is the culture that brought you Iron Chef.) Speaking of food, one series we haven't started but looked at and will watch is Yakitate!! Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakitate%21%21_Japan), which is about baking. Not related to Kogepan (http://www.burnedbread.com/), in which the main character is bread. Yes, bread. :D Disillusioned, depressive bread, no less. He gets drunk on milk a lot. And then ... there's Ebichu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebichu). Words really kind of fail one on Ebichu. Wikipedia says, "Ebichu is very adult in nature, and its explicit violence, innuendo, and sexual scenes could only be shown on DirecTV Japan." It's like Hamtaro, only different! And with more blood!

I tend to like series about yokai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokai), like Kitaro and Mononoke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mononoke_%28anime%29).

Oh, I also like ghost hunter/paranormal-type shows, with the notable exception of Most Haunted, especially if Derek Acorah's on it. (He was kicked off the show when they caught him faking a possession. Well, possession is nine tenths of the law...)

If they'll ever make any more episodes of it (writers' strike??), I like the Legion cartoon.

I'm sure there are more things... I was watching Moyashimon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moyashimon) but got tired of it.

Speaking of tired, it's 2:30 AM so I must go... but more later, perhaps.

It will? I mean, seriously, for the most part everyone on the 1990s series kind of sounded like they were loudly declaiming. One could never imagine, say, the Ororo from that series ordering dinner in a restaurant: "I... will have... THE BLOOMIN' ONION!" Whereas on Evolution she sounds more like a human being when she talks. The characters overall seem more three-dimensional on Evolution to me; I'd written it off as a dumbed-down show for kids but honestly there's some genuinely good stuff there, and having them deal with ordinary human things (along with the adventure-oriented stuff) is part of what I always loved about the old X-Men comics at their best. (Oh, for the days when they played baseball in their off hours...)

It also won two Emmys...

House is one of my favorite series right now.

Smallville is at it's worst when they do too much of the Clark/Lana lovey dovey shit. Plus, we all know they don't end up together so it's twice as annoying

House is a great show although I will say it has been a little weird this season what with Cameron and Chase basically relegated to cameos every week. I don't mind the new crew though I think the chemistry between House and his original crew was better. Here's hoping it all gets settled by season's end

Yeah-- it lacks being good. It's almost like they're doing a parody of the Simpsons now. Honestly, I almost can't even stomach watching it anymore-- which is a shame because it used to be one of my all time favorite shows

I know what you mean about Clark and Lana. I really like Lex Luthor as a character, it would be really bad if Rosenbaum decides to leave Smallville.

I always have the original group in my head, House is the protagonist but Cameron and Chase should always be there. I honestly have no idea about what will happen at the end of the season.

I still make an effort and watch the Simpsons (after all, I've been a fan for 16 years), but I'm much more enthusiastic about re-runs than new episodes. Like you said, it is a shame.
