Hey Frank, I really dug the Gamma Corps mini, especially seeing some new and old characters, and was wondering if you have any plans to return to the characters or if Marvel has something planned for them, seeing as it was hinted at the end that they might return.

Well, when Marvel had me create those characters, it was partly because they felt the Hulk needed to beef up his rogues gallery a bit, so I imagine they'll appear somewhere down the line again. (which is why it was so amazingingly fucking stupid when you saw some fans saying we had just created the characters so the Hulk could kill them-- I mean, really... why even bother if we were just going to do that?)

On a different note, I'm going to take this opportunity to address something about Gamma Corps-- there's a mistake in the ending. During the last fight scene, a page was misprinted with the wrong dialogue and because of it, the motivation for the Corps to target the Illuminati at the end of the series isn't as strong as it was meant to be. But you guys should be pleased to know we're acknowledging we fucked up, we're addressing the problem, and the correct page is supposed to be included in the trade paperback

So you may now consider the trade to be the official "un-fucked up" version ;)

I haven't picked this up yet (I'm still accumulating back issues of Wolverine!) but I have to say, this drives me up the walls when fans over at DC say things like this about the current Countdown, Arena, etc. and lead-up to Final Crisis -- am I the only one to whom it's obvious that no matter what worlds or characters die in this, if they're devoting an entire one-shot or miniseries to a world to show how cool it is, in some cases already-critically-acclaimed Elseworlds, do they really think they're not bringing them back??? I mean, the Earth-Three heroic Joker (for those who don't follow this, Earth-Three is like the Mirror Universe, but without the goatees (http://www.io.com/~sjohn/goatee.htm)*) got an entire one-shot all to himself before getting killed in Countdown. Call it a hunch but I think he'll be back, apart from anything to do with DC's cosmology or continuity but because it would be, as you say, amazingly fucking stupid to go to all that trouble and then chuck them. The same goes for everyone in Arena. I didn't think it was the best story ever written but I'm pretty sure part of the reason they did it in the first place was to get exposure to the alternate worlds in the first place and get readers interested.

I'm sure you can't tell us, Frank, re Lord Havok and such (er... I'm assuming you know?), but my guess -- based on stuff Morrison has said -- that the conclusion of Final Crisis will not be one Earth, not a mere 52 Earths (and some of those have already been kind of wasted on less interesting variations, in my view), but a return to infinite Earths, which allows them to do anything they want pretty much forever without people getting bent out of shape about continuity -- which is what I think they (and Marvel honestly) should have done long ago -- when characters and stuff get "dated" or they want a new take on it, don't have a weird specious miniseries rebooting everything, don't have a big storyline explaining away whatever you don't want to keep around, don't do clone bodies to make characters not age, just start off a new world and do whatever the hell you want with it without explaining away the last 30 years of stories. This allows the previous universe to go however you like without constant reboots of the thing, or God knows what else. (And this isn't a snarky thing picking on Marvel for the stuff I haven't liked the last few years -- I really am on sabbatical for that -- it's DC and Marvel as a whole. Marvel's done the "explaining away" "everything you know is a lie!" storylines more (not just the last few years -- I mean all the way back!) and DC's done more reboots. If DC is doing this, then I'm very pleased... Marvel almost has with their Spider-Girl/MC-2 universe, but that's the only ongoing one.

Well, okay, there's the Ultimate Universe, which is admittedly somewhat successful...

David
* I don't mean that there are no goatees on Earth-Three, just that it's not a defining factor the way it is in the Mirror Universe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_Universe_(Star_Trek)#Parodies.2C_homages_an d_similar_stories).

Ah, so perhaps I should check that out!

Hang on, you mean the Gamma Corps is going after the Illuminati?? :) (If so, GOD YES PLEASE, though whether Marvel will let us get to see them succeed is something else again.) I kind of hoped for (venturing too close to my sabbatical from complaining about Marvel thing here, so I'll be careful) more just comeuppance for the arrogant snots in World War Hulk than they really got... (Mind you, I like the characters themselves, just not the way they've been written the last few years. I want to see them slapped hard, or retconned or something*, and get back to normal rather than arrogantly trying to run everything behind the scenes. But I can't say more here about this for now.)

David
* Hell, just make them all Skrulls for all I care, just get them back to normal

Glad I came here! I was really curious about Marvel's reason for putting out this series. It was a good series, just had alot of trouble seeing what they wanted these characters for in the future. I basically think the Hulk's roguesgallery is excellent, but it can always use an organized group that hates Hulk. The U-Men, Pantheon, Hulk Busters always liven it up! Well I'm also glad Marvel can admit it fucked up! They are an excellent company that can be defensive at times about mistakes.
Do Marvel writers get a looksie before they are printed? I'm a new writer whose doing his first OGN for The Pack Studios, and have heard horror stories, where writers didn't get or want that last look.

Marvel definitely intends to do something with these characters down the road-- in fact, they were brought up to me the last time I was up there. As for them admitting the fuck up-- bravo, I say. The fixed page is supposed to be included in the trade paperback when it comes out, along with my original pitch for the series.

But as far as we writers getting last looks at our comics? Nope... and it has caused a shock or two at times, seeing something you didn't write end up in the finished product

Especially if it changes the plot in some way. I've heard of writers (won't go into detail here) getting very angry with companies at major plot point changes behind the scenes which changes the tone or meaning of their work.

WOW! Cool beans :D
That's less than a year away. Wonder if the new characters will appear in the show.

Also of note, the TP of the Gamma Corps mini is out today, and hopefully includes the correction Frank mentioned.

More info on the Gamma Corps cartoon- looks like whether or not it gets the greenlit hinges on the success of the new movie and has nothing to do with Frank's original mini :(

But hey, if it makes it to TV and is a hit, who knows, perhpas the REAL Corps will be making an appearance :)
