Something just popped up at www.comicspace.com that might interest some of you.

AlternaComics is open for submissions for comics to be distributed exclusively through Wowio. Anyone that's having problems with the whole self-publishing thing, this could be a good opportunity.

You can either try going to this link... http://www.comicspace.com/alternacomics/bulletins.php?action=read&id=27622&pb_page=1 ...or, if that doesn't work, go to the comicspace homepage (linked above) and scroll down to the bulletins section.

Good luck!

Sounds like it could be a cool opportunity to get some work seen.

On a side note, I do have a Wowio account and I've downloaded several comics already. But I just can't get into reading them. I'll pull one up on screen and close it after 3 or 4 pages. Until the quality of "digital paper" is equal to or greater than print quality, I don't think I'll enjoy reading them on screen. At this point I'm not sure if I'll even bother trying to download any more from Wowio knowing I probably won't read them.

on the opposite side of the spectrum, i love reading comics on a computer screen, maybe more than having the comic in my hands! i know im in the minority but, you know, different strokes.

They certainly are taking a large portion for themselves.

Why would someone do that, when you can just go to wowio and do it yourself without having someone take a cut?

Noble/Kari, that's odd for you to say considering you have your Wowio books being distributed by Dakuwaka.

I was actually referring to the original post(I hadn't read farther into it, and seen that Mike had posted the wowio info).

I just saw the original post and replied from there without reading the rest of the thread.

So the way it's posted it looks like I'm nay saying Dakawuka, which I was actually saying you should go to them instead of the company in the original post.

My head hurts :p

Still... Can someone explain to me why creators should go through either of these companies when they can submit to Wowio themselves? Just asking. I'm thinking about putting something together for Wowio distribution, but I haven't really done my research yet.

That I don't know about.

I do know that going through Dakawaku, they do all the leg work, and behind the scenes stuff, (getting your accounts, and books set up on the site, the paperwork, spreading the word through other sites, and the grunt work that I just don't have time for) and the cut they take is so small it's not a factor in my opinion.

Exclusive digital distribution? Sounds stupid.

Setting your own stuff up on WOWIO is rather simple. The only reason I could see for going with this outfit is to have your book appear under a brand.

Certainly, it's not difficult to set-up an account on your own.
If you want to do all the grunt work.
Thomas is right, There is strength in numbers, you don't want to get lost as a single title available at WOWIO. It's like have a listing without an AD in the back of the PREVIEWS catalogue. It's better to be with a digital publisher / distributor that has a growing list of quality titles that fans are coming back to frequently. Your title will get more visibility & downloads that way.

Also, there are promotional things that we can do to get your title more exposure & downloads, for example an AD for your book in our other titles available at WOWIO.

Check out the rates you get going direct, & what is required, then check with us, & see what we have to offer, before you make your final decision. :)

BTW:
Future's End 01 hit # 3 on Top Ten Downloads list at WOWIO. Way to go Noble !!

Looking for more Quality Titles to add to our line-up.

The cut Wowio takes is very small, and they do all the setup and marketing.

This is what we're fighting for in LA right now. Internet distribution and a fair cut. Just do it yourself, guys, unless you're already under contract with someone. I think Silent Devil is going to load up some of our books up there... why the fuck not, right? Readership is readership and these books deserve to be read.
