You know, in Zelda, Link has the spin attack that usually lights up kind of like that.

Oh I thought you meant the shape of the sword was similar to Link's. I went with the "whirlwind of light" to create the dramatic backlighting on the monsters. i can't say i was thinking of Zelda (never played it), but it does look similar to some of the effects in Baldur's Gate II.

This painting was more complicated than usual... from design to finishing it probably took me a whole week.
I tried a lot of different things on this cover-- in fact, I think it inspired me on the design for the next Ms Marvel cover (#26)! ...which is also taking me a full week...

What kind of reference material did you use (ie the sword)?
About a year ago, I did some design work which involved tons of weapons, armor, and characters. But the project was plagued by creative differences, and unfortunately the art work was never published and supposedly never used. When the Shadow Hunter project came up, I decided to use some of my old designs as inspiration to create her demon slaying sword! The design at the base of the sword blade is derived from that spiffy arrow head. Then the flared skull-pommel is based on the cobra-headed mace. Finally, you can see some basic drawings of the snake gripped handle (I see some Conan influence there...as in Thulsa Doom's snake cult). Anyway, I have nearly a 100 weapon and armor designs just laying around-- so I'm set for life as far as designing weapons goes.

Obliges. Hello Betsy!
So when you see Greg walking towards you with a camera, are you sick of it yet?

DAMN! That is awesome!
Dude, you need to do more covers like these for your Marvel work.
I would LOVE to see this kind of action-packed cover by greg Horn in boks like She-hulk!
Actually, this cover inspired me on the latest Ms Marvel cover -- you will see it's influence on Ms Marvel #26 for sure. It should go "live" this week I think...just stay tuned and I'm sure Spidey616 will post it the second it's available at Marvel.com.
