View Full Version : Questions for you ComiXpress users...

I've been publishing my comic through Lulu for a while and I love their service but the printing costs are a big problem so I'm thinking about using comiXpress. I know the Ronin crew use them and some others here so I'm hoping you guys can help me with 2 questions-
1) How is the custumer service?
2) How does the final product match up to your source files? I know with Lulu, the printed book looks exactly like the PDF you upload but I've had some issues with another popular printing service that printed everything too dark. My stuff is kind of dark anyway so obviously making it darker than it's supposed to be would be disastrous.
That's it, thanks for any help you can give me.

They SMELL. Literally. Not that nice fresh ink smell of a new book, but a nice sour ASS smell. They just do.

The stapling is odd, but other than that, I have no problem with them.

Is it possible a disgruntled packager at comixpress was wiping your copies in his ass? Or is it just the ink or paper.

Maybe it's not so much the stapling as it is the folding. I can't really explain it.

yeah, they aren't really "folded." i don't know how the bigger printers do it. i think its the thinner paper they use. i have to press down on some of my books so they are better folded.

I can't complain about my experience at all.
i would say -- give them time, and have patience.
They're still pretty NEW. So they're dealing with all sorts of things Im sure they never expected.
As for the folding, mine doesnt bother me. And I'm SUPER HAPPY with the quality of the book.
And the books DONT smell like ass. hahaha.. ... thats weird.

The customer service is EXCELLENT. I have always been responded to very quickly. The quality of the books themselves are good. My only complaint is that I don't like the stock the covers are printed on. I'd prefer something thicker. But, other than that, I'd recommend them.

I've bought about a half dozen books from ComixPress ranging from Ronin stuff to Crackurz to Lionxor and none of them smelled odd at all.
Also, the stapling was fine.
The only thing I've ever heard (and this is 2nd hand info, not my personal experience) is that they had trouble answering emails, etc. and their customer service was lacking, but from what I understand now they've fixed both of those problems.

I can't even imagine what it's like being one to two people starting it up-- and being suddenly flooded with not only actual printing and shipping work, but also a TON of moronic e-mails asking things that are already in the FAQ--
that would stink...
But they seem to have handled it all with grace. _--- I know there was talk of adding a forum there, but they just have to open up some time to get all the things they want to do in order. Not to mention MAKE a profit!

Well that's definatly good. I may have to buy a few books that they print off (like some of the books by different Bendis boarders) to see the quality they print at...but so far it looks pretty good.
Just out of curiosity...what the deal with the add thing they put in the books if you let them? I mean what exactly is it? is it an add for the site? or something else? And does it look out of place? Has anyone opted to have them put the add in there to get the cheaper price?

It's an ad for their services. It looks fine and you do get a cheaper price for including their ad.

It's just an ad for their site, it goes on the back cover. Looks pretty good.

I've had nothing but a great experience with them. Sure it takes them longer to get your books if you don't put a rush in(if you put a rush you can get it as quickly as 3 weeks, but this costs more).
However for the price $1.20 for a 32 page black and white/full color cover book? I'll gladly wait an extra 3 or 4 weeks. Just plan ahead.
I've never had any smell problems. Maybe your mail man hates you? Or he's just marking his territory
I have noticed that the final product is a little darker than the files. Not a lot and it's nothing major. But if your work is already dark and murky, it might be best to try and lighten it up just a tad.
The service has been great, and they've really helped us out to get everything down to a stream lined process.
They can even print up posters for you if you know the secret handshake

The customer service is great when you actually hear from them.
Case in point: I uploaded my latest book on Monday. Not a word from them yet.
My last book took 3 months, and most of that was waiting for them to even open my file.
All that said, they did a hell of a job.
