k so i'm watching last laugh 07 .. and lewis black makes a remark about the cops could just arrest him for shitting in a handicap stall..

and like a week ago i'm using the handicap stall at work ( you know they're all taken that's the one left over) so when i leave there's a guy in a hoverround or rascal or something sitting there waiting.

i kind of felt sheepish but thought nothing of it till lewis black said something..

so i'm wondering.. could i have gotten in trouble for using the handicap stall? i didn't think it was quite the same as parking in a handicapped spot, thought it more just designated that it is handicap accessible. (the company i work for is very large so i will probably never see the guy again.. and there's lots of bathrooms all over the place that have handicap stalls)

so any one know if the guy could have reported me?:mistrust:

I don't think you can get in trouble. When you have a choice, you really shouldn't take that one. If the other ones are full, though, I don't see anything wrong with it.

There's a good episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm about this.

I usually go right to the Handicapped stall......why not? They're bigger, the locks usually aren't broken, and there are those handles in case of an earthquake or if you need a brace for that turd that's coming out sideways!

I like that support bar they install in those bathrooms. I can rest my elbo on it while im pooping. Plus after a nice elimination I need help getting off the bowl, specially if ring around the ass sets in...

I find that I can rarely squeeze into some of the so-called regular stalls. So, yeah I use the large, handicapped stalls. I've only gotten in "trouble" once when I was confronted by some irate guy on crutches as I was exiting the stall.

Thanks for the PC terms. The real technical terms are so offensive.

I'd much rather here my son say he learned how to sit "criss-cross applesauce" then Indian style. You know cause plagiarizing children is the best way to teach them the way the world really is . . .

We had a bad debate on this.

Handicapped stalls are not the same thing as handicapped parking spots. For one thing, the ratios are generally different and they're used for a shorter period of time. The handicapped guy just has to learn to wait for the toilet, just like an ordinary guy would if all the stalls were filled.

It's okay to use them.

These stalls are made handicapped accessible, they are not restricted in anyway to only the handicapped.
There's nothing about being handicapped that makes it any harder to wait two or three minutes to pinch a loaf.

I AM GROOT!
12-04-2007, 02:52 PM
I prefer using the handicapped stall when I'm dropping a load - way more spacious and higher off the ground. Plus, they're usually furthest from the door, and there's at least one wall on the other side so I don't have to be bombarded by the surround-sound of two other people grunting as they drop a deuce on either side of me.

Also, those stalls are handicapped accessible only and don't limit their usage just to that group. It's the same thing when there are handicap signs outside a one-person restroom in some businesses. Again, it just means that it's handicapped accessible, not limited.

When I was a telephone operator we had a guy in our office who was in a wheelchair. He'd gotten trashed one night, tried to hop a train, and lost both his legs at the knee.

The guy was a huge asshole. Tried to pick a fight with every guy there, he would roll over people's feet on purpose. Anything he could do.

He tried to pick a fight with one of my buddies one time. Tried to (literally) roll up on him. My buddy knocked him out of his chair.

After that any time my friend would go to the bathroom he'd use the handicap stall, then lock it and crawl underneath so the wheelchair guy couldn't get in.

I told my friend he was an asshole, but he just laughed.

We had a bad debate on this.

Handicapped stalls are not the same thing as handicapped parking spots. You're right. Able-bodied people using the stalls can be a helluva lot more problematic for handicapped people than using their parking spots.

For one thing, the ratios are generally different and they're used for a shorter period of time. The handicapped guy just has to learn to wait for the toilet, just like an ordinary guy would if all the stalls were filled. It's hard for a handicapped guy with poor bladder control to "learn to wait". Maybe you should learn to be more considerate.

It's okay to use them.Only if there's nothing else available.

There's nothing about being handicapped that makes it any harder to wait two or three minutes to pinch a loaf.Wrong. Work in any sort of program that provides services to the disabled/handicapped/elderly and you'll find a lot of people living with incontinence issues. That extra two or three minutes can be the difference between a person making it to the toilet or ruining an outing by being incontinent.

Do handicapped people who have severe incontence problems use the bathroom or are they more likely to have other means such as a colostomy bag?

Do handicapped people who have severe incontence problems use the bathroom or are they more likely to have other means such as a colostomy bag?I don't think colostomy bags are used for anything but absolute medical necessities. I've never seen anyone in our programs with one. However, I do know of several individuals in our programs that use catheter bags for urinary problems.

Very often, individuals with incontinence problems will wear adult briefs (Attends) on public outings and bring a change of clothes. Unfortunately, that doesn't solve all of their problems because...

A) Having a public incident is still embarassing.

B) It's often very difficult to change a handicapped person with ambulation issues in a bathroom stall.

C) Changing a person often involves using a significant amount of the time that's been allotted for a time limited outing. Also, if we're at a concert or something, it can cause a person to miss half the freakin' show.

I realize handicapped stalls aren't exclusively for handicapped people. If there's nothing else available, it's perfectly reasonable to use one of them. That being said, if you've got options, it's sensible and considerate to use a urinal or a non-handicapped stall. It kinda sucks to have a guy in a wheelchair piss himself because some dude wanted room in his stall to stretch out and read the paper. ;)
