The animation is pretty good. What is it with X-Men and catchy theme songs?

Me too!

Me three!

My mom got it for me in 1991 on my fourth birthday as well as the bendy, flexible Cyclops action figure (with blue/white X-Factor costume). I think the cover had Art Adams art, if I recall correctly.

I loved this as a young 'un! Kickass animation and theme song... I wonder why it didn't become a series...

When the Alamo Drafthouse premiered X-Men 3, they showed this beforehand. I thought it was unbelievably cheesy.

i remember seeing this in a toys r us one day and needing it because at that point i'd never seen the x-men in any type of cartoon. my dad bought it for me. and all was good in the world... except for the fact that wolverine had an australian accent. that always bothered me.

The 6 player X-men arcade game was pretty much based off this video.
Was Dazzler in it?

I like how Juggernaut sounds like Macho Man Randy Savage.

Oh, you kids today. All shocked by Australian Wolverine when we oldsters had already seen an equally cheesy version in an episode of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

Its a 20 year old cartoon based on a comic book and you're watching it as an adult. Were you expecting Masterpiece Theater?

Negative. You're thinking of the later episode "The X-Men Adventure" that had Nightcrawler and Thunderbird. Wolverine appeared in "A Firestar is Born", where the X-Men were Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, and Angel.

and delivered the awesomely bad, "hey mate, piece of fruit?" after offering a ka-bob to a teammate...after that, I've never been able to view Wolverine as a badass...

Oh lordy. Remind me never to see that episode. All I'll be able to see after that is Wolverine shakin' his booty in The Boy From Oz... :scared:

I always liked this animation better than the one they went with in the '90s series. The overall story and presentation though, not so much.

Here's some awesome X-Men anime (which I think is the best possible animation for X-Men):

Yeah that's awesome. I have the theme song for that as a ring tone on my phone.

thinking about it...almost all the ring tones on my phone are theme songs to comic book tv shows/cartoons.

I got the same exact things for one of my early b-days. As a kid I really liked the part with Spidey during the previews.

The Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends episode where Wolvie was an Australian was classic! The fruity claw, the bad line...and the greatest voice for Juggernaut. "I'm coming to get you Charles X-Avier!!!"

Ugh. I like the animation better than the 90's X-Men cartoon, but the voices all suck. Not to mention how odd it is that this was from 1989 but it looks and sounds like 1979. I own this too and Aussie Wolverine isn't any better today than it was then. Shit, the 90's Wolverine voice is still tops.

I get a kick out of seeing those costumes in animated form. It's a shame that the 90s show had all the Jim Lee era designs and basic team roster.

It is GOOOOD little one. Colossus LIKE rain.

Even features the same characters and designs...

Was the game supposed to be based in the animated series?

HATE the lame-accented Logan.

the villains + Nightcrawler are cool though, wish they were permanent once the show was relaunched a year later or whatever

Me (however many people also have it plus one). I had it, lost it, bought it on eBay years ago for less than a dollar.

Quick little story just to illustrate how nerdy I was when I was a wee lad:

My mom and dad bought me the Cyclops helmet visor, but it was modeled after his X-Factor costume which had white line going down the middle. I wanted his X-Men version, so I took a blue magic marker and colored it in.

Anyone who doesn't own this as a child is highly deprived.

I love the fact that I can't understand most of what Toad says, but "X-MEN! X-MEN! SAVE THE DAY! SAVE THE DAY!" is still a huge joke between my brother and I.

i actually taped the fucking thing off tv when i was a kid. and ran the tape down i watched it so much.

great goddamn show. always made me sad that the animation in the 90s cartoon couldn't match the animation in this one.

yeah, australian wolverine was lame, nightcrawler was creepy, and colossus was a moron (seriously ,how is it that the writers of these things always make him an idiot? he almost always speaks in third person and it's shit like "colossus like rain!")

the villains were top notch though, and the whole thing fucking rocked my childhood.

i did love the spider-man and his amazing friends episodes with the x-men though. especially the one with the MAZE....of MADness (a running joke with one of my friends).

I remember this.

ahhh.. the days of yesteryear when Stan Lee would give his voice to every goddamn marvel cartoon ever made.

Listen to the theme song of this...

then listen to the theme song of Captain Planet... :mistrust:
