View Full Version : Favorite Metal Band at the Moment?

The Zep thread got me thinking, or more importantly the legacy of Iommi.
Right now I think now one can fuck with what High On Fire are doing. Death is the Communion has some of the best riffs I have heard in years, and enough balance in the song writing to make the heaviest parts stand out, without simply using the "Loud/Quiet/Loud" Mogwai dynamic. And that is no knock against Mogwai, they are one of my favorites, but many a band has taken a page from their book and overused it.
Anyways, your pick?

Quite honestly, I don't have a favorite band right now, but the favorite album is the Metalocalypse/Dethklok album.
I don't know if that's sad, pathetic or otherwise.

Dethklok, for being a parody, is the best metal band I've heard in years.

Dethklok is pretty awesome. My favorite band at the moment has to be Arch Enemy. I only had their one album, Wages of Sin, and I absolutely loved it. I went out to Best Buy a few days ago and grabbed Doomsday Machine and Rise of the Tyrant, their two most recent albums, and I love them both. I especially like the guitar work and guitar tone on Rise of the Tyrant. It's really unique, and something I've never really heard before. However, Doomsday Machine's songwriting is a lot better. Either way, I can't stop listening to them.
Plus, their lead singer is hot:

I've kind of been acquiring Iron Maiden clothes over the last few years. So, last weekend my lady makes me go to some mall with her in Long Island. I put on my Trooper belt, my Number of the Beast t-shirt, and my Killers button. My lady says, "that's too much Maiden." I said, "there's no such thing as too much Maiden."
I got mad props at the mall.

I saw High On Fire once, didnt like it. I think it's because the vocals were non-existent due to the abnormally high levels on the instruments.

A couple of my co-workers started listening to Manowar at their desks. Based off their outfits I never gave this band a chance, I was converted in minutes.

You must have been at a shitty venue or something. The few times I have seen them the vocals were mixed pretty well into the front.

Im just assuming it was a screw up on their part. The other bands I saw were fine, but HoF the vocals were waaaaay too low...
