One of my co-workers just had serious open-cranial surgery (successfully we've been told) and he's being released tomorrow to go home. I want to give him a "Welcome home" type gift. He's a trekker-type geek, not really into comics as far as I know, but I was thinking about giving him "The Leader" unique heroclix as kind of a gag gift (because of the exposed brain, right?). Here's the problem... I'm reasonably sure he's never heard of the Leader and wont get the joke. Alternatively I can give him a Brainiac13 fig, which he might have heard of, but doesn't look as cool (no brain!).

2 of my colleagues and I are also giving him a bottle of scotch with a note about "Rather having a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy".

So my question is this: Should I give him with the Unique fig (which only seems to be going from $5-10 on ebay, so I'm not worried about the money) which he might not appreciate, should I give him the Brainiac13 fig, or just let things lie with the booze?

Does anyone know if a post-op recovery patient is allowed to drink booze?

I'd just stick with the booze.

Gag gifts are only funny if the receiver gets the gag.

Heh.

Personally I'd go with something relating to the Metalunan crab thing from "This Island Earth." Can't get more brainy than that.

That's an AWESOME idea! Does anyone know if you can get a bust or at least a poster of this?

I dont really know. Knowing his level of geekiness I'd have to assume he does, but I've never been to his house to see his shelf.

I need a "Gamesters of Triskellion" globe! Does such a thing exist?
