cool.. i was about to start this.

McNabb's already thrown a TD, 2 of my fantasy leagues might actually do alright this week.

GelfXIII

So, I'm watching Washington vs Green Bay. So far good def. 0-0

but on the tickr I just saw that McNabb tossed a 75 yd doozie to K. Curtis.

Ouch!

Favre threw a 60 yd pass to D. Lee. Cracks in the redshins def start to show.

Sadly, the only reason I'd want the Redskins to win is cause the big boss that sits in the corner office at my work is a huge fan, and when the 'Skins win, the whole region benefits.

See, I'm in the opposite camp. I'm a big Giants fan living in a sea of Redskins fans. When the 'Skins win and especially when the Gints lose, my life is hell.

At least if the Pack wins this week they'll shut up for a while.

Sadly, i'm having to follow it online. I'm out of town (in Houston), so wheeeeeee.... Texans vs. Jaguars. Makes me wish I was still in bed. Though Ahman Green is back, that's a good thing for fantasy fans.

Nah. His nickname has been "AD" since he was a little kid. Stands for "All Day" 'cause if his mom didn't come grab him he'd play football all day instead of coming in. Works well for him, since one of his best traits is how he gets better the more carries he gets.

Plus, OU already had an AP (Antonio Perkins, held the NCAA return TD record) when he got to OU.

Just wait until he pulls the "hold the football like a loaf of bread, then try to keep your balance with the hand that HAS THE DAMN BALL IN IT" move. That's a good one to figure out who actually understands what "the ground can't cause a fumble" means.

P.S.-it doesn't mean that if you're still up and the ball pops out because you put it on the ground, then there's no fumble.

Sure, the 5-0 Dallas Cowboys with Tony Romo and Terrell Owens versus the 5-0 New England Patriots with Tom Brady and Randy Moss is the sexy match-up of the afternoon.

But how can that compare to the showdown between Tim Rattay and Vinny Testaverde?

Brian Defferding

Man, what an UGLY win for the Pack. It was literally a competition on who's offense was more incompetent. Favre threw deep and his result is more INT's. They gotta stick to the short-and-quick passes which has worked throughout the last 3 weeks.

Still, it's a win and I'll take it.

I'm just saying, Carey said "When he made contact with the ground, the ball came free" and I don't see the difference there. The difference is that in one case the player had already established possession a and had not in the other. No one was ever claiming this was a fumble, and had the ball come out in the field of play it would not have been ruled a fumble.

bartleby
10-14-2007, 03:18 PM
You have to have possession of the ball before you can fumble it. It's as simple as that.

Frozen Sooner
10-14-2007, 03:18 PM
I'm just saying, Carey said "When he made contact with the ground, the ball came free" and I don't see the difference there.

Here's the deal:

You do not have full possession of the ball until you make a football move after you have control. If the ball comes out when you hit the ground without first making a football move, it is a drop.

If the ball comes out when you hit the ground after making a football move, you were down by contact (if you were hit first) and no fumble. If you WEREN'T hit first, it IS a fumble in the NFL.

There really isn't such a thing as a rule that says "The ground can't cause a fumble." That's just an explanation of why a person who is down by contact couldn't have fumbled.

Well, Phillips was still using time outs during the drive, so if the Boys and got the ball back it seems like they may have actually tried to get some more points and win the games. It is the offense's job to score touch downs and the defense's job to stop them. It was the Pat's forth string RB and it seems to me that the Boys reminded everyone what is possible with 17 seconds on the clock just last week.....

Belichick is an asshole.

Pats could not kneel out the end of the game because DALLAS called a timeout, stopping the clock. New England gave the ball to a 4th string RB and had him run up the middle.

I'm just not sure what else anybody could expect a team to do with time on the clock and the clock stopped. kick a field goal? that seems even douchier to me because you clearly going for points. running up the middle is the only thing that makes sense. it's not NE's fault Dallas didn't keep the guy out of the end zone.

and for the record, Philips didn't say point blank that Belichick cheated. He said, "I don't think they gained anything from it, but it's a black mark on their team." which sounds a lot more like he doesn't think they cheated but the perception that they did hurts the team.

Exactly...what else could they do?
Too much time on the clock and not enough downs...that Dallas sucks so hard they couldn't stop a 4th string RB isn't the Pats fault. Hell, Kyle Eckel couldn't pick HIMSELF out of a lineup...

The only thing the Pats are guilty of is making enough mistakes so that Dallas could delude themselves into believing they ever had a shot in that game. I enjoyed every single shot of Wade Phillips on the sideline...a man never looked so in over his head before...if only his dad could have helped him...

That's not what Peter King said...

"Wade Phillips this week told me something that I think a lot of coaches around the league and a lot of people around the league are still thinking, and that is, 'Hey, New England was caught cheating and it is a black mark on their success.' There is no doubt in my mind that it is, and more and more people around the league are starting to say, 'Why did this thing just go away? Why didn't it get more traction?'''

He said quite clearly that he thought Belichick was cheating. Then a couple of days later, Phillips said King "misunderstood" what he said.

Either King is lying, or coach Phillips is.

Either King is lying, or coach Phillips is.

Or Wade Phillips is as inept at remembering what he said as he is at coaching a football team.

Why didn't it get more traction?'''[quote]

He said quite clearly that he thought Belichick was cheating. Then a couple of days later, Phillips said King "misunderstood" what he said.

Either King is lying, or coach Phillips is.

that's what Peter King said LAST week. Here's what he said THIS week...

I think, for the record, here's my side of Wade Phillips calling me a quote-fabricator. We spoke last Tuesday night about his team's miracle win in Buffalo, and after that we talked about the idiocy of the late-game field-goal do-overs, about the Patriots' Spygate scandal, and about how he hopes the league will pass a coach-to-defense communication system the same way the league allows quarterbacks to get plays called into their helmets.

He said the league's sanctioning the Patriots for cheating "was a black mark on their success ... not that I bet they gained much from it.'' He praised the Patriots and thought they deserved all the credit for winning the three Super Bowls.
not the same thing, is it?

Yes, they're completely different. So perhaps King did fabricate what Phillips said. Although he doesn't really have the reputation of doing stuff like that.

he didn't really fabricate anything. he just took Phillips completely out of context and utterly failed to include the most important part of his statement - that he didn't think the pats did anything wrong.

the best part is that its all there and King seems genuinely confused as to why philips rejects his reported account of their discussion.

No, he doesn't say that at all. "A black mark on your success" implies that you did something wrong. And whether or not the Patriots got any thing substantive from their cheating is irrelavant. It's still against NFL rules. They cheated, plain and simple.
